  1. I'm surprised no one has mentioned the 1400 (Big Bear) loop.  It is close to the central activities and not too far from the Marina area.  But we've also been in 500 twice lately (without a 4-legged critter) and in 900 last summer, all with good results.  As has been stated in other threads, there's not really a bad loop and very few bad sites at the Fort.  Opinions are like noses: Pretty much everyone has one, and they are all different.  My opinion is for a site in FW at any time!

  2. MagicBus,  Do you know what the proper/current line up procedure is for wheelchairs at bus stops at the parks?  Until last Christmas we always lined up outside (road side) of the normal queue and waited.  When a bus approached, we held up the appropriate number of fingers to indicate how many wheelchairs we had with us at that time.  The drivers always stopped and let us know how many he could take and inquired if any could transfer to a seat.  Then at HS we were heading toward our normal spot and a CM told us we had to go through the regular line.  A.)  It's hard to get wheelchairs through those roped/chained areas at times.  B.)  Waiting buried in line means the seats will be filled before we get to the front and either the driver will need to move people or tell us to wait for another bus.

Someone has said the white box with the handicapped emblem was the correct waiting place, but I thought that was only for determining if a chair/device would fit on the lift.

I expect the problem to recur when we are there in July and again in December.  This is usually only a potential problem at AK and HS since we take the boat from MK and monorail from EPCOT.  We have never had a problem at the FW Outpost bus station since the rope system is not used and fewer people are waiting.

  3. I get 10 mpg in my van and around 5 in the MH.  Yesterday was the first time I've ever put $100 in a gas tank.  We need someone in office who will take a strong stand to recover the oil resources we have in this country until some real renewable fuel source or alternative mode of propulsion is developed.  Whether it be to drive to work or to WDW, there is only so much oil underground.  What will future generations do?  I may be talking 5-10 generations, but it WILL run out sometime.

  4. Last Christmas we were temporarily moved out of our site...decorations and all....so CM's could remove a tree at the rear of the site that looked like it might be dangerous in a storm.  The crews helps us take everything down, moved us to another site while the work was done, moved us back and set everything back up in our original site.  The honcho over the work even brought his family by our site that evening to see our decorations.  Great preventive work.  I can't say wht it might have been otherwise.

  5. We've been going for Christmas for many years and in recent years have added a shorter stay in the summer.  We deplore the high prices, but we don't do much besides our WDW/Fort visits.  For us it's still worth it and we'll likely cut other things to keep going there.  Besides, there are not a lot of places we can take our kids where we can either relax or jump in to all that is offered...on reasonably flat land where pushing wheelchairs is not so much of a chore.  We still make an occasional trip to Gatlinburg, but the Dollywood hills are getting to be a little too much.

  6. Does anyone have information on the order the camping loops were opened?  Was there a master plan for the expansion, or were new loops just added as demand for campsites grew?

This is all quite fascinating.  From one or two visits, it seems the Fort is pretty static, but from the info given here, it seems to be everchanging.  Was it better then, or is it better now, or is it just different from time to time?

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. -- NASA is delaying its next space shuttle flight - the last voyage of Endeavour with Rep. Gabrielle Giffords' astronaut husband in charge.

The flight was postponed because the original April 19 date conflicts with Russia's plans to send a cargo ship to the International Space Station.

Endeavour is now scheduled to blast off April 29 with Mark Kelly at the helm. It will be the next-to-last shuttle mission. Shuttle Atlantis will close out the 30-year shuttle program this summer.

NASA announced the postponement Monday, after conferring over the weekend with the Russian Space Agency and other space station partners.

An unmanned Russian cargo ship is set to blast off at the end of April. NASA did not want the craft docking at the space station while Endeavour was still there. Now, the cargo ship will arrive first.

NASA spokesman Allard Beutel said the Russians were reluctant to postpone the supply run because of a time-sensitive biological experiment aboard the craft.

Kelly and five crewmates will deliver a $2 billion physics experiment to the space station, as well as critical spare parts to keep the orbiting outpost running for another decade.

The two-week mission will be the last for Endeavour, the baby of NASA's shuttle fleet. It was built to replace Challenger, which was destroyed during liftoff in 1986.

The postponement puts the launch, scheduled for 3:47 p.m., on the same day as the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Endeavour is checking out fine at the launch pad following last week's severe storms that brought high wind, lightning strikes, hail and even funnel clouds to Kennedy Space Center. Only inconsequential damage was found on the insulating foam of Endeavour's external fuel tank, officials said.

Kelly returned to training in February after taking time off to be at his wife's hospital bedside. Giffords was shot in the head in Tucson, Ariz., in early January. She is recuperating in Houston, home to Kelly and the rest of NASA's astronaut corps. Kelly said last week that he's awaiting doctors' final approval for his wife to attend his launch.

In Kazakhstan, meanwhile, two Russians and an American were poised to blast off Monday as the newest station crew. They will join three astronauts already in orbit.

  8. Judy in Texas,  Any follow up on your electrical problem?  Did the A/C and microwave work?  Are the lights still dimming, or was that a one time thhing?  It occurred to me your converter might be oging bad.  I don't know how old your TT is or what model of converter you might have, but if you started hearing the fan, it could be that the converter fan is binding, or has accumulated enough dust to throw it off balance a little causing more noise than usual.  Hope all is well.

  9. Used to have one on a property line.  Thankfully my neighbor wanted it gone along with his tall pine trees (they break and fall on houses), so he paid to have the sweetgum taken out.  Yes, the balls were in the yard for years, and I still have to fill every year where the root suystem is rotting out beloe ground.  And we later got rid of our tall pines that were anywhere near the house.  We still lose one at the back of our lot every 2-3 years in storms.  Trees !  Bah!  All they do is produce broken houses, leaves, pine straw, sweetgum balls,...  shade, beautiful flowers, apples, pears, peaches...  ok, maybe not so bad.

  10. I thought I might be the only one who still lurks around you-know-where.  I hadn't mentioned it so I wouldn't be banned from here.  :rofl3:

I also didn't realize there are so many people who remember and appreciate such good entertainment and humor as has been referred to herein.  Love that Hee Haw!!  :rofl2:

Jen,  Good luck on the repairs.  These money holes we own seem to get deeper and deeper.
