May 17th, 2011 by AJ. Dun dun dun, da da dun, da da dun… Dun dun dun, da da dun, da da dun… Are you hearing what I’m hearing? The Imperial March from Star Wars? Not so much?

Well it was worth a try in order too introduce this incredible fundraising event being put on this Sunday, May 22nd, by a group of Disney fans and web folks called The Power of 10 Confronts the Dark Side. Benefiting Give Kids the World Village, the event will be an opportunity for Star Wars, Star Tours, and Disney fans to get together and celebrate the re-opening of Star Tours, but also to raise money for a great organization that makes dreams come true for children with life-threatening illnesses every single day.

Give Kids the World, five minutes from my house.

A little over ten years ago, just after we moved in, I was driving around and noticed what appeared to be a Disney theme park. What the heck is this? Being curious I stopped in, found out what it was, signed up, and that was that. Got my ten year volunteer Angel pin last year.

It looked like a Disney park because a lot of it was in fact done by Disney volunteers. GKTW does some great work, 95% of it by volunteers. Disney is the single largest contributor in tickets and volunteers, but all of the theme parks do their share.

The Black & White Gala held on the 14th was the most successful one yet. It's a $200 a seat black tie affair. It's quite the event.

If you get a chance visit the GKTW web site.
