PedersenThe Big Thunder Mountain Railroad attraction at the Magic Kingdom will be closed for refurbishment January 9, 2012 – March 31, 2012. Cast Members at the attraction have reported that the lengthy closure will allow for a replacement of one of the ride’s lift hills as well as cosmetic and special effects repairs for the attraction.Good news for those who visit in the off-season: It is said that this refurbishment replaces the regular Splash Mountain closure that usually occurs in January.http://blog.touringplans.com/2011/10/06/big-thunder-mountain-railroad-3-month-2012-refurbishment/
Lou... 3,118
Either Touring Plans is wrong or my source is wrong, which is not likely. I'm showing it being closed until May 27, not March.

BradyBzLyn...Mo 2,023
From WDW News Today...The rumored Big Thunder Mountain refurbishment is no longer a rumor as Disney has it listed to begin on January 9th, 2012. The current end date is set for March 31st, but that is only because the Walt Disney World website calendar doesn’t cross that date as of yet. During this refurbishment, an interactive queue is expected to be added. As well, the missing railroad tracks hiding the steel roller-coaster track will be returned and the falling rock scene will either be fixed or replaced. Other upgrades and changes are rumored but an not be confirmed at this time. Stay tuned as more becomes available on this story.http://wdwnewstoday.com/archives/8043

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad’s Refurbishment Continues As Queue Exterior’s Makeover Nears CompletionPosted by Raphael De Varona on May 2, 2012 Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at the Magic Kingdom continues to chug along with its extensive refurbishment and the exterior of the queue building is showing signs of progress. In our many previous updates we’ve seen darker brown tones come to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad’s track and other areas of the attraction. Now we are seeing those darker shades carry over into the theming of the queue building’s siding. It really looks great and is only amping our anxiousness to ride the attraction all the more once it reopens in late May. Of course it is not just brown wood panels that we’ve got in our update, so if you’ll make sure you hold on to those hats and glasses we’ve got an amazing refurbishment to show ya.http://damouse.com/2012/05/02/big-thunder-mountain-railroads-refurbishment-continues-as-queue-exteriors-makeover-nears-completion/
