I will also add that dining reservations have been MORE difficult to get than both our March and June trips...
ABSOLUTELY!!! In September Disney offers free dining for guests staying in the resorts - so ADR's are hard to get. That is also why the transportation can be crowded as you must stay at a Disney resort to get free dining.
-
We will be there the 8-12!
Looking forward to meeting you!

In terms of crowd levels Sept is one of the better times, but with temps still in the low 90s, high humidity, and a fair amount of rain, it can be uncomfortable, unless you're from Atlanta.
That is so true, Lou. On the other hand, all the yankees go back to their resorts around 4ish, and don't return. I personally don't mind the heat at all, but I must admit that we don't have the humidty with the heat like you do. I can walk outside and immediately take a picture in the middle of summer in Atlanta. In Orlando I have to wait 10 minutes until my camera lenses defog!

5 posts! That was important info. ha ha!
Well...I just did a double - and the 5 posts are now just one. Looks like the AUsome mods clean up after us pretty well.

Thanks to everyone. I think I will check in early and ride the bike around if a site isn't ready. I'll be there until the 23rd - hopefully I will meet some other fiends. Ya'll are a hoot!
-
We've checked in as early as 6:30am. Unloaded the golf cart and went to scope out sites. Went back to the outpost and requested sites. It has worked out well for us.
Awesome. Can I borrow your cart :)
I will have a bike with me...

You can ccheck in any time after 6. If your site isn't ready, you could spend some time scoping out sites to see what is available. Also, on Sunday there are LOTS of checkouts
So does Disney work like other campsites in that I can kinda pick one out? I do have a preferred site reserved.
-
Since Sunday is usually a busy "check out" day I personally would wait. You should have a better selection of sites closer to noon.
That is kinda what I thought...but I was a bit concerned that if I waited until noon I would be in a line of folks checking in at the same time. Is Sunday a big check-in day?

I used to go every September on my birthday, but now that I handle Europe for my company, I can't go in September due to a huge trade show in Amsterdam (ya, pretty tough duty...). BUT, when I did go in mid September the crowds were just silly low. I once rode Pirates of the Carribean 5 straight times without leaving my boat - and I was the only one in it. Just told the CM at the end of the ride that I wanted to go again. This was about 7pm.
September is by far the best time to go in my experience.

I am driving down from Atlanta on Saturday the 8th of November and spending saturday night at the Hampton close to Downtown Disney. For some reason, couldn't check in to the Fort on the 8th.
So...what is the best time to check in on Sunday the 9th? I am an early riser (5am - it is a curse...), and will not be going to the parks on Sunday. Should I get there early, or take my time and get there later?
-
Have a great trip!
You'll never go back to hotels again. This will change the way you "do" Disney. Spend some time just relaxing and enjoying the Fort, and you'll want to go back again and again.
I am so looking forward to it. I have 3 1/2 days planned as just Fort Days (one day is MVMCP).
-
Will be there God willing, Nov. 8-13. Hope to meet you & so many of the Fiends in Nov.
I look forward to meeting everyone as well...just ordered my Fiends sign, so I should be easy to find.
-
...annnnnd you just got 4,219 brownie points with the owners of the board.
That is great news...Now I really feel at home! I grew up in Huntsville AL, and my first real girlfriend in Junior High was Pat Sullivan's cousin - and that was back when he was playing for Auburn (guess that pretty much ages me). Been an Auburn fan ever since, even though I graduated from UAH.

Welcome!
November is a great time to camp at the Fort. I have a Fleetwood (Coleman) Utah CP. PUP's are the perfect thing for the Fort. You will have a blast.
TCD
I actually like the Utah better than the Bayside...but I normally camp with my Golden Retriever, and he needs the sofa next to the bunk in order to jump up to the sleeping area. He is gorgeous, but not very athletic.

I am in Acworth, Lanier almost isn't a "camping trip" for me...but put me down anyway.Welcome to the funny farm! Enjoy your trip.
If you message Lou, he'll get a sign to you, so your site can be marked as a Fiend site. That will increase your chances of visitors and of getting spiked.
We live in Metro Atlanta. We'll be having a Grand Gathering with a bunch of Fiends Memorial Day weekend on Lake Lanier. You should join us! http://www.fortfiends.net/forum/topic/13373-2015-memorial-day-gg-its-official-bald-ridge-on-lake-lanier
I have read various comments about "Lou". Guess I need to get to know him. Also need to figure out how to message him.
Ummm....I see you are a dawg fan. Sure hope you don't mind being around a Dye Hard Auburn fan.

Ahhh...so you are one of the reasons I can't check in on the 8thWelcome!! I will be there the 8-12 of Nov! Hope to meet you!

Spent the last couple of days lurking, as this will be my first visit to Fort Wilderness. Been to WDW a bazillion times, but this year decided to take my Bayside Popup down from Atlanta. Arriving on Nov 9th and really looking forward to my 2 weeks at the Fort and perhaps even meeting some of you. Will be in a preferred site as it was the only type available for those times. Ya'll have been a treasure trove of information!
A little history help?

OK, I must admit that I don't post on forum's very much - although that is probably going to change. I only found out about Fort Fiends recently, as this will be my first Fort Wilderness camping trip at Disney, but ya'll are a hoot! I hope to fit right in over time (especially after my 14 day trip in Nov when I experience the Fort and meet some of you)
I have in the past been posting moderately over at the DISboards (45 posts or so), but not in the camping area. I have noted from reading several threads on here that it seems like the DISboards did some bad stuff to some of you. Could someone get me up to date so I can understand what went on? Or is this subject taboo?
