  1. slightly related, my parents are currently on Carnival Conquest, the have totally changed the itinerary, they were to be in St Kitts yesterday and San Juan today, however they skipped St Martin on Tuesday, docked at San Juan till yesterday after noon, skipped St Kitts, and are now Docked in Grand Turk

They are due to get off the ship Monday in Ft Lauderdale, however I believe they will be docking Sunday vs Monday

  2. I dont worry  unless i know the eye is passing within 100 miles of my home, a camper I would worry if they were estimating 300 miles between where i am and the eye.

the thing about hurricanes is they can be really wide over 1000 miles in some instances, however the strongest winds are near the eye and typically dont extend out too far.

just pay attention to the weather reports and if things look bad, but they have not told you to move yet, start moving its better to be ready to go and not need to move than be told to go and still have to pack up.

  3. I actually did a quick calculation yesterday before my update. Assuming 10K/yr and the V6 having 24 mi per gallon and the diesel is 30 the difference in gallons per year is 84. Without even trying to account for the cost difference in fuel your talking a long time to break even. To me a low mileage driver buying the diesel would need to make decisions similar to buying a Prius. It is not the lower fuel costs as main a reason to buy but more a holistic reason of less fuel and it's better for the environment.

to me If i can make it somewhere with less stops, I am a happy camper, so if the truck can get to the site and back and never need a station that's a plus!

secondly my xterra gets 19 when not towing, I didn't do the math last time i towed so I dont know how low it got towing the pup but i dont expect it to be horrible.

when you look at the scale of the "midsize truck" its actually 7/8th the size of the full size... so its 12.5% smaller

they are tying to get over 30 MPG so when you compare it to my current ride, it could to be 11 mpg better when not towing anything on the highway, and 5 mpg better in the city

in the end Ill have to wait and see, ya know test drive it

  4. Travis,

That's why I got the 2516G, its got the storage trunk on the PUP

In said compartment, I store the following

    4 folding chairs

    1 folding table

    1 gas grill

2 power cords( rv type 2 x25 ft)

    2 extension cords ( normal 2 x25 ft)

2 hoses (25 ft water, 25 ft drain)

    8x10 patio mat/ rug

    50 ft of coax( 2 x25)

1 magnet mount HD TV antenna

that's roughly 115 lbs of gear

using that allows the other storage areas in the camper virtually empty for now

I have storage under the bench's on the dinette eash are 2.5 feet tall, 2.5 feet wide and 4 feet deep, with inside and outside access

1 of the 2 has a LCD tv( 20 inch) in it and the shower curtain, we put 4 bath towels and 4 pool towels in there and still have room for extra linens for the beds.

the other has nothing in it. I plan in putting pots and pans in there once i get them

there is storage under the couch, i have the outdoor table that mounts to the camper there and a vacuum

bed linens are  on the beds( put on the day before we leave) and the pillows are stored under the dinette when the table is closed up

I put a 45qt cooler in the door way to the unit.

we put our luggage on the floor between the bath and the storage cabinet, and another bag can go between the couch and kitchen area.

all that goes in my Xterra at this point is the stroller and a second cooler with drinks/snacks for the drive

  5. yea where are you?

I had a great experience buying from Lazydays

They will match/ beat anyone's price on new units

as for your price of 10-15 there are new units that fit the bill, they will not be toy haulers

for example this uint http://www.lazydays.com/rv/new-rvs-for-sale/tampa-fl/travel-trailer/coachmen-clipper-rvs-005 will sleep more than 4, no bunk though, and asking is $15,298 but id bet you can get a couple grand off easily

for used they just got this in, 30 ft bunk house

    2006 for $10,000

no pics just yet but if your local go check it ou

because they have no pics yet I suspect this is the model on youtube, this is not the unit for sale just a similar one

skip the first min or so

  6. I can help you out, kill 2 birds at the same time

number 1, you need to go to Columbia Restaurant!  My friends Family owns the small chain( maybe 6 locations?)

the closest one to the fort is Located in Celebration, Disney's Master planned community, so its somthing Disney, and something new

    http://www.columbiarestaurant.com/celebration.asp

as for what to get, here is what we do when we go with the owners

    Sangria

the 1905 Salad- trust me on this!

a mix of Tapa's or thier Cuban sandwich

and a few main entre's to share

most meals are large enough to share that way its like your own private buttet  lil this lil that....

  7. I think we might end up staying at crystal springs for the night, Pull through sites and the boys are obsessed with submarines so they should get a kick out of a glass bottom boat ride.

    Thanks!

check out lazydayz rv resort, its really nice, a short drive to crystal springs, and its  at I4 and I75

they have summer special rates at $29 a night, no pull thru though

secondly your at a dealership that can service the unit should an issue be found.

  8. Child care costs is the main reason I moved from NH to Florida.

350/kid per week, second kid was on the way when we made the move

My income went up as I don't work in Massachusetts so I get 5.25% more than I did working there, my fuel bill went from $100/week to $100/quarter, no longer commuting 35 miles 1 way to work with a 4x4. I walk 65 feet now

My house grew by 1,000 sq ft(1400 to 2400feet) and a pool yet the mortgage dropped by $1,000/month

With all that being said, Disney is a priority to me, I grew up going there, and well my kids will to!

I can always make more money, but I can't always make more memories, that's what I live by.

  9. I am comfortable with my midsize suv,so I like the feel of the midsize truck, I have not driven it yet as it's not out with the diesel. I don't really need a full size. Parking is easier, slightly better gas mileage is the other plus.

I prefer new because I don't like to inherit other people's problems.

I know stingray Chevy has decent deals, I just like the gmc look better for the midsize.

I do not need a truck for anything other than camping, we have 2014 odyssey for virtually every other trip (got it last April and it has 8700 miles on it) so we don't drive much like we did in New England (15-18k per year per vehicle)

Like I said mine is getting worn out, and while I haven't had a payment in 4 years I feel within the next year I may have a repair that equals the value of the truck( paint job) and rather than deal with that, I'am ready for a new vehicle.

  10. people are making more money than they ever have, what would be interesting to see is what percentage of income was spent then vs now, id be willing to bet that didn't change much.

remember cars in the 60's ( 20+ years before i was born) were under $5,000 for a mustang... today your lucky to get it for $25,000

but when you look at what people spend in relation to income, there has not been a large change

  11. I currently own a 2007 Nissan Xterra, is got the v6 and 4wd

it can tow 5000 lbs, and I have done minimal work to it over the years.  I put Airbags( Firestone ride rite) on the rear, did the belts/ plugs, new battery last year at 100,000 miles, and 2-3 years ago I did new tires at 85,000 miles

currently I work from home, and I drive the x maybe 30 miles a week I just cheeked and i have driven 7300 miles in 2 years since i moved and work from home

It has been paid off for almost 4 years now :)

up until this year I did not need to tow anything, but i got the camper 2 months ago and the X tows it just fine

With my current vehicle getting a little long in the tooth, IE its starting to have paint issues, and the drivers seat needs repairs due to worn out cloth on the edge of the seat, just replaced the window regulator on the driver door. I am starting to consider a new vehicle.  I know my X is worth 6-8,000 depending on how i sell it, and have offers to buy it from carmax in that price range so i know its accurate

I don't have plans to get a new camper in the next 5 years, I do plan on bringing bikes and kayaks and such as my sons get older( 2 and 4 currently) and well the Xterra is nearing its limits when I add that extra weight.

I have been considering the new GMC Canyon, and saw recently they will be putting a 4 cylinder diesel in it, 181 HP and 369 tq . or the V6 at 305 hp and 270 tq, both are to a 6 speed auto.

It has similar interior space to my current vehicle so no complaints there, it has a bed where i can put bikes/ kayaks ect, and the tow rating is 7600 lbs for the 4x4 and 7700 for the 4x2 where as the v6 is at 7,000 lbs

if you havent seen it click here http://www.gmc.com/canyon-small-pickup-truck.html

its a baby sierra in my opinion.

I have never owned diesel, however my dad worked on them for years and years.

knowing that i don't drive far, and that when i do go more than 30 miles it will be with the trailer in tow, should i go for the diesel or stick with the gas?

The price difference is $3500( sticker), however i know the dealer and could probably get a discount that would make it more in the rage of a 1500 difference between the 2.

The Diesel is not a new engine, its just new to the US it is a duramax that has been used overseas for a few years now with great reviews. no EPA milage numbers on the diesel, rurmors of over 30 hwy and 24 city are circulating, the gas is already rated at 17 city and 24 hwy, way better than my x at 15 city 19 hwy

there are no official numbers yet, but the configuration I am looking at would be as follows

crew cab, 4 door, diesel 6 speed auto, 4x2 towing package, exhaust brake, trailing package, back up camera, navigation all for the tune of $35,000

a similar priced full size truck new with said options would be almost 50K but if i stick with gas its closer to the low $40's

thoughts? keep in mind the gas i assume would be $1500 cheaper and then a trade of $6000

so Id be looking at under $29,000 out of pocket

  12. I am no bean counter by any means, however I am a stock holder

    per the 2014 numbers below

Disney saw 132.5 million guest use the parks and stay at resorts, including the cruise ship and various properties not attached to a theme park

those guests generated $13.5 billion in revenue, total across all items including tv, interactive, merchandising, movies was  was $45 billion

and a profit of 2.2 Billion, total profit across all lines was 10.7 billion

now I may be off on my math, that being said

guest revenue averaged at $1018.86 per person for a profit of only $16.60?!? per person

    $16.60 x 132,500,500( guests) = $2,199,500,000

its not about the large profit, if you can do large volume, they don't need to make $60/ night on a room, they only need a few buck's as they are doing millions of times

  13. Congrats on the pup, I too just got mine 2 months ago, is a 2016 Rockwood 2516G, similar layout to yours, but i have a bath.

the work that i have done on mine so far, shows there are some quality issues, but they were all easy fixes, and i would expect every other brand to have the same/ similar issues.

I did buy from lazydays, they had the best price and were willing to actually do a deal, unlike camping world and the private sellers i came across.

I have had it serviced at camping world for the issues that came up after the sale, I live 2 hours from lazydays and 20 min from CW.

As with any service related item, you get more bee's with honey, be nice but be stern.  The service adviser didn't make the unit, so its not their fault.

My New pop up has a tire clearance issue, FR sent me the spacers at no charge, but would not pay to install them, however Lazydays is offing to pay the $250 to install it.

it also had 2 bad door seals, something you wont know till you get it wet/ it rains, took almost 2 weeks for those parts to come in, but CW was updating me every other day on that so no complaints.

The other quality issues I noticed was the radio was only held in by 3 screws, the 4th was there just not in any wood, I unscrewed it and moved it down a quarter inch and problem solved.

same thing with the master 12v switch, 2 screws but only 1 in the wood, again a slight move down and to the right fixed the issue.

these were only noticed as i was removing the two items to install a volt meter and USB charging ports, if i didn't do that i may have not noticed them for a while

There were also spots on the frame, and I have seen this with every other camper my father has owned, where there is surface rust, it happens, just carry a can of semigloss black for touch ups as you see it.

I am sure as i get more time in the unit, only 1 night so far, Ill find more issues, but that is actually a part of camping, being crafty and fixing things on the fly.
