I've been mulling over posts, lists, pictures... it's still very difficult to figure out what loops are class A friendly.  Obviously it's all back-in and the ease of backing in depends upon the neighbors being parked all over the place.  Are some loops just easier to maneuver? I don't care about being close to anything. In fact I prefer a more remote place! Thanks

I'm not sure when your going, but i will be at the fort from May 10-17. Hooked up I'm about 62' long. I will let you know where we ended up and how easy it appeared for us to get in. I know you don't bend in the middle but both my truck and trailer are quite long and don't get in every spot easily. I like the remote spots also.

Help me understand if you have your RV, two golf carts why do you also need two trucks or cars also/

When did campers (well younger campers) become so lazy they need a golf cart every where they go!!!!!! I can understand older folks and the disabled, but healthy young folks? A lot of them cannot back their camper up and they had to buy the biggest unit they don't need. I'm not to upset at 2 cars or 10 people on a site. But I am super upset at children being allow to drive golf carts. I've had my vehicle struck by a child on a golf cart and they ran leaving me to have to pay for the damages.

I'm literally in Lake City RV Resort right now. Decent place right off of I-10. Most all of the sites are pull-thrus and are decently level. Friendly folks, but not pool or playground. It does have the nicest pool table I've ever seen in a public place.

Lake City? I was broke down there for 3 days before. The BBQ place almost across the street from the campground has ribs that are out of this world.

  4. After reading this mess, i can share some insight from my training as a hazmat technician. A meth lab can be built many ways and sometimes within minutes. The larger more elaborate labs in hours. All methods are know to produce extremely hazardous gases and chemical compounds. Some of these gases and compounds are highly flammable and sometimes explosive.

Why wait until the dead of night? Simple answer, less people around if things go bad. What we do not know is if adjacent rooms were evacuated or not. We also do not know the actions that were taken by police and staff of the resort. We know just what we are told and just like in the media, things are often distorted to serve a purpose.

I would rather know that the staff and local law enforcement took all proper measures. Than have them do nothing and a mishap occur hurting other guest like you, I and our families

  5. By chance were you trying to drop any days off your reservation?  These days that tends to be what used to be a pretty quick change online, into a not-so-quick, and sometimes-very-frustrating phone call.

No, I'm  just trying to add my mother in law to the reservation. After 45 min, i was told its a glitch in the system. I guess with all the big bonuses being paid they couldn't afford the top dollar system. Had to go cheapest bidder. lol

Just another reason why I let a travel agent, like the magnificent Jason with Mouse Counselors, handle all my travel reservations these days.  It's free to me and makes my whole experience much, much better.

Can you post their info for future reference for me?

  6. So I booked weeks back. The mother in law want to join us so I go online and make the required changes. Next thing I know, I get a message I have to call into the horrid call in center. So I pull up the chat screen, those folks cant do any thing. A thirty second change has now become a 30 minute and counting annoyance. I believe from now on I will use another travel agency as this is sub par minor league stuff. i can change most if not all of my reservations online for anything and everything including cruises and airlines.

  7. Which road will you be arriving on?  It's obviously not 95 since you said your trip is 14 hours and the FL welcome center is 5.5 hours into your trip.  Without knowing which road, it's impossible to suggest rest stops.

BTW, it's considered bad camping etiquette to put out your slides in a resting area.  That includes Walmart, Flying J, rest stops, Cracker Barrel, etc.  I see people doing it all the time, but it can be hazardous or inconvenient to others.

We have a Class A too, but our driving limit per day is 12 hours, including breaks.  We did 15 hours one time and said never again.  We travel to WDW on 95 south, leave home at 4am, and arrive in St. Augustine by 2 or 230pm.  Overnight there, leave about 430am the next morning, and arrive at the Fort around 630am.    This works well for us, and we avoid the traffic jams in the major cities.  We arrive at the Fort feeling refreshed, and we usually don't have to wait too long to get onto our site.

I will take comfort over the new PC police etiquette that has come about in the last few years. I am still equipped with common sense which is a hot commodity that seems to disappearing. That said don't look for me in the middle of the lot taking up 17 spots at walmart or 2+ spots at a reststop/truckstop. look around the edge of the lots. The areas where a slide can be opened with out worry of others hitting it.

  8. Next time you want to see the wild ponies head to the Maryland side. They are truly wild ponies. The ponies on the Chincoteague island are actually a captive heard owned by the Volunteer fire department. I highly recommend the National park area on the Maryland side as the deer and horses are seen all day and night in that area.

  9. Thank you. He still has medical issues, but were hoping one big hurdle is over. Really hoping we can get rid of the wheelchair. When we were leaving Baltimore the lead surgeon on the team said you might be able to throw that wheelchair away in a couple months. Our son looked at him and said no I want to give it to a kid that can't afford one. So that's our goal in January if the doctor signs off on everything. Give it to a kid in my zone.

    Hey Brother,

Next time your in Baltimore look me up. I work at the oldtown firehouse downtown. My vote would be to avoid cherry hill and head for Ramblin' Pines Campground.

  10. We have stayed there and would definitely stay there again.  Great rates and it's clean.  If you want something fancy, don't stay there.  If you want to be able to relax for the evening and take a load off your vehicle, then definitely!!

You folks aren't to far off from me. I live in Snow Hill down by the beach. Thanks for your input. Just want a place to lay our little heads stretch our legs and maybe just maybe allow the kids a few laps on their bikes to tire them out.

  11. Welcome!

Are you planning to put both of your "larger units" on one site?

Do you have or plan on renting a golf cart?

How long of a trip are you planning, and how many of those days will be days that you plan to visit parks?

    TCD

We will have two sites hopefully in the same loop. LOL guess i should have phrased that better

    Welcome.

It's FL, there are always going to be some sort of bugs around.

We were at the Fort last Memorial day and had hordes of those yellow 3 cornered biting flies around at the 1500 loop.

    Thankfully the mosquitoes weren't bad.

Other people said they weren't bothered at all.

If you bring pets, May will be starting to get hot, so if you leave them in the camper you will need to have A/C running.

Make sure you have a couple of just Fort days scheduled for your stay.

I have two wonderful A/C units which will hmm along as long as the temp makes it stuffy inside my poorly vented unit. No matter what style of windows I've had, it never seems to move enough air to stay cool.

  12. I looked back 3 pages to find the last post on this campground. I'm looking to overnight and this seems like a valid option. Has anyone stayed here recently? If so was it clean and safe? Price? Would you overnight here again? No looking to do more then drop the main jack on the trailer to take some weight off of the truck and put the slides out so we can access the food and beds.

Please chime in and let me know what you think. This would be about 6 hours from my house and 6 hours from the fort.

  13. Hey all,

We are new to FW and will be traveling with two larger units. We will be staying on a premium site probably with a dog in each unit. But option to not have the dogs at all. Where should we stay/request? I have two younger kids @ 4,7 y/o respectively. We don't mind walking but would like and idea where we are being driven by all the time or have hordes of bugs. We will be there in Early May of 16. Any suggestions will be taken and researched on the great tools provided here on this site!!!!! Great site btw
