  1. Did you ever see the Aladdin show there?  It was pretty good too.

I'm sure this fellow is well qualified.  He's been involved in some big projects.  But it looks like he's been brought in at the last minute for Rivers of Light, and he's not even working on that full time.

The president of WDW just spoke at the 45th anniversary recognition at the Magic Kingdom on October 1st.  That would have been the perfect time to announce any exciting news about Rivers of Light.  Yet, not a word was said.

I guess if they stop talking about it, us dumb guests will forget about it.

No, I didn't see Aladdin. This "coming soon" business is getting old. If they aren't talking about it at that sort of event, I'm a little worried. And I haven't heard any rumors about the replacement parade at MK once the current one says adios. Hmmmm....

  2. We did call about the shower. An employee came to the room and twisted the handle harder to reduce it to a slow drip - that was the fix. The next time I took a shower, my husband had to come into the room to turn the handle for me.

The springs only poked if I laid near the edge of the mattress and we didn't want to take the time to explain it and wait around for another employee to come to the room. Since there were three of us, we just switched beds. My daughter was fine with everything since she laid in the middle of her bed.

Regarding the tour, we returned to the room on our second night to find an envelope on the bed. It was a letter asking us to join a tour the next day in exchange for a gift card. The following day, we received a phone call during the afternoon while resting. My husband politely declined the request.

In the past we have always stayed at Animal Kingdom - Kidani Village and have always been impressed.

  3. We were lucky enough to spend last week visiting and stayed at Old Key West. It was our first visit to this resort. We chose it due to the availability of rooms with two queen beds, the amount of square footage in the room, and our preference for at least a kitchenette in the room.

The grounds were beautiful and the front desk staff were welcoming and friendly. We checked in online where we were able to make two preference selections. We chose to be close to transportation with a water view.

As you can see, we were right across the street from our bus stop ...

we had a lovely water view...

enjoyed the location of Old Key West as everything was a short ride away. We waited less than five minutes for any bus both at the resort bus stop and at the bus stops at the parks. The only exception to this was the Epcot bus, but we thought those buses may have been off track due to the Food and Wine festival.

We took advantage of the counter service at Good's Food to Go twice and enjoyed our meal both times. We didn't try Olivia's until our last day. We were surprised to find that the food there was pretty amazing. My husband had the Crab Cake Eggs Benedict. It was amazing! I would highly recommend it. My daughter had the Banana Bread French Toast. She said that it was so good that she wanted to lick the plate. I had scrambled eggs and toast and enjoyed it.

The boat from Old Key West to Disney Springs is a nice ride and something I would definitely do again.

BUT ... despite all these positive attributes, I doubt that I will choose to stay at Old Key West again. I read a few reviews prior to our trip that mentioned that things were a little worn out at Old Key West. I very much agree with this assessment. The furniture looks very used and worn. Our mattress was so worn that its springs sometimes poked us and made noise whenever I turned over in my sleep. Something was going on with the plumbing in the shower so that it was difficult to shut the water off once we used the shower. As you can see in the photo below, things looked a bit unusual.

is just not what I expect from a Disney resort. Usually the resorts feel much more special and there are little touches here and there that add that little bit of magic. It may be a trivial thing, but there wasn't even the little towel sculpture that usually can be found on the bed on the check in day. All in all Old Key West was not magical.

And one other thing ... this has never happened to us before and we have stayed at other DVC resorts before this visit. I was AMAZED at this ...

Not once, but TWICE we were encouraged to forego an hour of our vacation to do a DVC timeshare tour! I don't go on vacation to be harassed about buying a timeshare! Maybe I'm overreacting, but for me, this took the cake.

Well ... that and the bus driver who decided to share his political opinions about Trump vs Clinton while we waited on the bus leaving Epcot one afternoon, but I think I'll save that for a trip report.

  4. If he is the person who oversaw the Frozen ... Live at the Hyperion production at California Adventure, then he is the real deal. That show was pretty amazing. I would love to be able to see it again. It was a very impressive show, in fact, I would say it was the best show I've ever seen in a Disney Park.

  5. Yes, it is true. I live near Atlanta. Many gas stations are running out of fuel. Our governor was on the news today reminding business owners that price gouging is illegal. One gas station reportedly raised prices over $5 a gallon. I was able to fill up last night for $2.40 a gallon, but passed three stations today that had no fuel. I haven't noticed an effect on diesel, but I'll be sure to take note while I'm out tomorrow.

That's good news.  Bet this made a difference too...."She stayed calm and explained ".... in how she was treated.

Yes! That is key. She did the college program at Disneyland a couple of years ago and she noticed that the cast member she was talking with was a college program member too. It is important to remember that the cast members are there because they want to be part of making your experience at WDW a magical one; they usually are as much a fan of all things Disney as you are!

  7. This story doesn't apply to MNSSHP, but I thought I would share...

My daughter was at the park last weekend with three of her friends from college. The four of them ended up being stuck on Pirates of Caribbean for two hours. Once they shut off all the power to the ride, a cast member jumped down into the water to pull their boat backwards to another "room" of the ride so that they could disembark and walk through backstage to return to the park. As they exited into Adventureland, they were given fast passes and a Mickey bar. " The cast member said, "Hey, you guys are getting a free tour of backstage!" It was late in the evening without enough time left in the day to use the fast passes and being stuck sitting on the ride for all that time was a less than magical end to their day. My daughter decided to go to Guest Services to explain that useless fast passes and a Mickey bar wasn't sufficient. She stayed calm and explained that she felt losing so much of the one day they had planned in the parks was unacceptable. After lengthy discussion, she and her friends were each given a one day park hopper ticket with no expiration date and their taxi ride to return to their hotel was paid for by the Mouse. She had requested a full or partial refund, but the cast member explained that since it was so late in the day, there was no way to provide a refund. She had to be persistent, but I was impressed that WDW did so much to make them satisfied.

  8. Looks like so much fun so far! We always try to jump over to Chuy's for dinner while at WDW. I can't remember which night it is, but they do have a kids' night with a great balloon artist. If he's still there, he can make just about anything for the kids. Last time we were there, he was getting requests for all sorts of characters and he was able to do each one. Fun!

You want the Nassau experience without actually spending the time to leave the ship?  The day before you board your cruise, go the local Cocoa Beach Walmart.  Find an aisle full of crappy Chinese made trinkets.  Ask a few Walmart employees to badger you into buying these trinkets, then close your eyes and pretend that the Walmart doesn't have any walls.  Bam!  You are in the Straw Market.

Then, after you leave the Walmart, head to one of the crappy beachside bars near Ron Jon and ask the bartender to make you a tropical drink with the cheapest vodka he has, only he needs to replace half the vodka with water.  Bam!  You are at Senor Frogs.

Do this and there's no need to get off the ship at Nassau.

I agree! Stay on the boat!
