Do you have children? There are three nice playgrounds to visit. Take sand toys and play at the beach. There are also afternoon games/crafts at the pool for kids. There are pony rides for small children at the stables or horseback trail rides for big kids. Watch the blacksmith shoe the horses. Check out the calliope in the horsebarn and watch some of the horses get a bath and get groomed. Get a take out pizza or Giddy-Up-And-Go meal from Trails End take-out and sit at the beach to watch fireworks. Sit in a rocking chair at Crockett's and people-watch. Play tennis at the courts by the pool. Bring your fishing poles and dip a line in the water (remember to save some chicken skin for bait !!). Bring bikes...FW is a great place for biking and you can bike the trail over to Wilderness Lodge too. Rent a canoe or one of the sea-sprites at the marina. You can go para-sailing from the Contemporary. These are just some things at FW. Like the others said...there are many other things to do at DTD or exploring other resorts and riding buses, boats and monorails.

  2. Ok....so we've been playing most of the day....we have about 25 different cards. There still is not much challenge to the game and "type" of spell and number of "points" still don't appear to mean anything yet. And the game didn't care if we used the same spell card more than once. Our journey as sourcerers took us to Fantasyland, Adventureland and Frontierland, and Main Street three times around. We never did get sent to Tomorrowland. Before we left we ventured over to check the portals in Tomorrowland. There didn't seem to be any aroumd there so we assume maybe they weren't working? It was one of the busiest areas in MK so maybe that's why the game didn't direct us there? We did see CMs around the different portals with clipboards making notes on how many were playing, age range, how long it took and if there was a back up. We really never encountered more than a couple people ahead of us. Today we also saw more kids (ages about 7 to 12) playing and not as many adults or those of college age. As a side note...we confirmed with a CM working in the firestation where you register for the game, that the cards will be for sale in some of the stores. However, there is no specific announced date for when you will be able to purchase the cards. For right now all you can get is one set of 5 cards per day. If you end up with duplicates there is usually a player around one of the portals looking to trade cards.

  3. We have been playing Sorcerer's this past week. Right now I would have to say that the game will not hold the attention of smaller children under about 7 years or so. There really isn't anything interactive to do...you stand on the pad, listen to the video, show your spell card and get directed to the next portal. The portal will be in the same area where you've been playing in (like Adventureland) until you finish all the portals and you're told the villian is caught. (I believe there are 7 villians). We haven't finished all the areas yet, but I'm hoping the game will get more interesting as we finish more of it and as it gets more phases complete and the "points" and "spells" at the bottom of the cards start to mean something. Right now, in the beginning stages for us, it is slightly boaring...but then, we are not the target audience. Most of the kids we met at the portals are in the 17 to 22ish age group - college age - and in the "geek"/"gamer" category. They were very well informed about the game, had collected most of the 70 cards (you can get 5 new cards each day), and were eager to talk about the game and trade cards (apparently a couple are very hard to find). I think when the completely finished game is ready to play it will be something more like the trading card game "Magic: The Gathering" but on a video/interactive platform. Tomorrow we will be start playing the "official" game and see what's changed.

Here's a picture of a portal in one of the windows on Main Street...

  4. We have used Indian Forest and St John's (which is next to the flea market). Both are okay for overnight. St John's is Passport America and a good value for 1/2 price. You need to make a reservation at St John's as they only have about 12 transient sites of which about 8 fit big rigs over 35 feet. Both parks are gravel/sand and the office personnel were polite and helpful. Indian Forest is a little quieter since it's further off the interstate. The flea market (which runs on weekends) was not so good - lots of cheap plastic stuff, total junk and cheap tools - was still a good place to walk off some excess energy from riding all day. Neither has any real amenities for kids...they are just overnight stops.
