  1. You would have to buy 85 bags in a season to justify what you would pay for the Ice maker.  And then you would have to figure out where you are going to store the thing when you are not using it.  Just saying it may not be worth it if you don't camp every week end at a camp ground with electricity.

  2. If I remember correctly you bought a TT.  The cord should have come with the unit.  If your search does not find one then take a picture of the electrical connection and go to an RV dealer or Camping World and buy a replacement.  You should know what amp service your unit is and the picture should help you get the right cord.

  3. rn0530 had a pretty good description of the Half marathon.  My daughter loved it.  The medal and ribbon is a big heavy thing.  The character meet and greats are not just that.  There will be displays and pieces from the parade scattered along the route.  Music, bands and chorale grouips are also scattered along the way.  Fireworks start the race for each corral.  The costumes can get very elaborate.  And if Lou owned stock in DW he would be laughing all the way to the bank.  The guy who thought up these events has turned an empty park into a money making machine when it is normally closed.  Of course if I had to drive around that mess I might think differently.  Thats just my opinion, I couild be wrong.

  4. If you are looking for a beach experience then some of the suggestions offered are good.  There are other State Parks like Jonathan Dickenson in Jupiter.  It is not directly on the beach but it is a quick drive to some of the best beaches in FLA.  Waves are big and surfers love the area.  Water Temps are warmer than the Gulf.  I think the water is bluer and cleaner but thats just my opinion.   It is a big nature preserve with a pontoon boat tour and you can rent canoes.  Lots of things to do in the area.  Myakka SP near Sarasota is also a nature preserve with an emphasis on nature.  Deer and Great Heron walk though your site but I've heard that there are too many alligators for the likes of some.  Sebastian Inlet is also a great SP on the Ocean with daily views of Dolphin and great fishing.  I found the 50 AMP service to be iffy.  If you are looking for a place inland that is not well known and away from everything then look up Fish Eatin Creek in Palmdale.  Its not listed as a state park but it is owned by the state.  This is FLA as the first settlers found it.  There are little meandering creeks that you can explore with a canoe and hiking through the cyprus trees but not much else.  It has good facilities but it is far from anything of interest.  if you have kids they would be bored in a few hours.  If you only need 30 AMP Service then try Wekiva Springs SP.  Swimming is in a crystal clear spring feed lake and tubing down a natural lazy river with camping in a forest. It is also about 45 minutes away from DW.

  5. Smells can come from a number of sources.  In FLA we use Damp Rid to keep the humidity low and prevent mold.  Keep  a little water in the toilet and regularly run a little water in the sink and shower drains to keep the p traps from drying out and letting the smell from the blackand grey water tanks from getting into the interior of the unit.  There is a natural smell that these closed in small spaces have due to the materials used in contruction like glue and styro foam.  The only thing that will reduce that is air and time.  Good luck.

  6. Walmart for toilet paper, Black Water chemicals, and related sewer hook up hoses.

Just dropped a bundle at Dicks Sporting Goods for a two burner camp chef stove that will allow me to boil a side of a cow in 5 minutes.  Not sure why that is a good thing but you never know.

Just dropped another bundle at Bass Pro Shops for accessories for the stove like a griddle and carrying case and a beach chair for the DW who is afraid of anything that could cook half a cow.

Thankfully there is no Camping World in driving distance and I don't trust the internet to keep my credit card into secure.  I have it on some authority that the Target hack last Christmas was not the biggest company with security problems.

  7. I'm with Big Tom.  I used to think that I could fix anything cheaper than a repair professional could because I don't have to pay myself but I proved myself wrong while doing a brake job on an old car.  The parts to replace the brake shoes cost me 30 bucks.  The trip to the emergency room to save my eye was much more even with insurance.  My first reaction to this thread is, Yes you can fix it but how good do you need it to look.  First I would duck tape over the rotted area immediately to stop any more water from coming in.  When you have more than a weekend to spend on the project you could pry off the edging, pry back the exterior sheeting if it is not glued to the ply wood then cut out the bad plywood with a reciprocating saw.  Then go to Home Depot and buy a small piece of plywood that is the same thickness as the wood you cut out.  Glue the exterior sheeting back over the plywood and then replace the angle piece at the corner with a new piece that you should have also bought at the Home Depot.  Then you will have to paint the entire pop up to help hide all the imperfections in your week end mechanic repair job.  OR,  you can take to your local dealer and let them replace the entire side and front of the unit with factory made parts.  I vote for number B.  But thats just because i hate looking all the mistakes I made in all of my repair projects.  You could be different.

  8. The books are only helpful if you need advice while on the road.  If you have access to the internet you can get a video of most everything you have that breaks and how to fix it.  I fixed my hot water heater and refrigerator that way.  There are also web sites like this one and Irv2.com that have a lot of very helpful information, particularly about towing.  Look for a thread called the physics of towing.  Finally, I suggest that you take some short trips to get the feel of the rig.  Don't buy any expensive equipment until you determine what you really need.  If you are towing a trailer you may need anti sway bars that may help the problem you will experience when a truck passes you.  Let me be the first to warn you about that so your hubby knows to keep both hands on the streering wheel and to always have one eye on the rear view mirror to look for trucks.  Practice backing the trailer in an empty parking lot.  You will need to do this so that you can back it into a spot at the Fort.  If you can back the trailer into a spot at a 30 degree angle you will do just fine.

  9. I had a 2005 R-Vision TT that was 26ft long.  I traded it in on a MH in 2007 and noticed it had developed delamination.  It was relatively easy to tow but I did have quality control issues with it.  I bought it new so your factory problems should have been corrected by now and if delamination has not yet started, it may never so you should be good to go.  I strongly suggest you inspect the hinges on every cabinet door including those under the bed and on any storage compartment.  You are looking for missing screws or inproperly aligned screw that have not been inserted straight or completely.  Check all window valences for missing or loose screws.  I did not have any water leaks but you should inspect the roof because it is commonly known as a rubber roof that will cause black streaks on the side of the unit if it is not washed often and does not have a life span much beyond 10-15 years.  When you look into the A/C vents you will see styrofoam because the ducts are just carved out of the styrofoam insulation and are not  separate pieces.  This makes the A/C somewhat louder but by the time you get it the little white flakes should be blown out.  Knowledge is power so you can talk about all these things when talking about price.  Good Luck

  10. The one thing that is not mentioned is that we Floridians think anyone who willingly jumps into the ocean when the surf temp is below 80 degrees must be from North Dakota.  The mythical frost line crosses the state somewhere in Palm Beach County so below that should be very comfortable for some one not from Florida.  Hollywood Beach has some very nice hotels and a great brick walk along the beach but it is populated with 55+yr old French Canadians who think they look good in speeo's.  Yikes.  Miami Beach is beautiful and the beach is great but may not be kid friendly,  Your DH might like it though.

  11. Unless it is an airstream or something really old it is probably fiberglass..  You should look for large bubbles, bulges or waves in the fiberglass on the exterior.  That is called delamination and is not easily fixed, (very expensive). The other type of siding is the corragated siding nailed to wooden studs.  They will almost always leak around the front window if there is one.  If there is no interior damage you can fix that with caulking but if you smell mold on the interior of any unit you should run as fast as possible.  Flush the toilet and hold the pedal down for a while so you can look down that hole with a flash light.  Not a job for those faint of heart.  It may smell but should not induce vomiting.  You are looking to see if it was emptied recently and if there is any insect infestation that will fly out or move about in your flashlight beam.  When in the interior inspect the ceiling around any opening in the roof like the A/C, TV antenea crank,  Never assume anything works.  If it has the following equipment, hot water heater, water pump, refrigerator, stove and furnace please check them to see if they work.  Bring your own Propane tank from your BBQ so you don't hear the old "Propane Tank is empty", excuse.  Many trailers have 12 volt batteries.  Make sure they hold a charge.  Then inspect the tires.  The treads rarely wear out but if one or more have uneven wear they may be out of align or the trailer frame or axle is bent or out of align.  The tire side walls should be closely inspected for cracking.  Tires older than 6 years should be replaced.  The manufacture date is on the tire sidewall.  You might be able to get away with older tires in northern climates but the sun dries out tires fast.  While you are on your knees, use your flashlight to inspect the undercarriage for damage. I know that this seems to take away the fun and enthusiasm out of buying a trailer but you do not want to discover any of these problems while driving down the road.  Once you do hit the road you will go with confidence.

  12. When you make the reservations just tell that what you have and how long it is when it is opened up so they can fit you in the right spot.  I always used my pop ups in those sites and see little difference in a hybrid and pop up, except maybe the hybrid is more comfortable.  Have a great time.  My next trip is in August.  Hope to see you then.

  13. I've done it many times but I've had to slow down since they made the walk back from the Contemporary Monorail station to the boat ramp twice as long as when you walk from the boat ramp to the Monorail station.  Of maybe it just seems that way.  And to answer your question, Yes and No.  Would you really want to trust your kids to someone who enjoys adult beverages as much as you do?  Just sayin.

  14. Rennie,  I thought I was the only sick SOB who enjoyed the scene at the local boat ramp.  At a private camp ground in the Keys I learned that between 4-6 PM on Friday Saturday or Sunday you could go and watch all the boater who have been drinking, I mean fishing all day, trying to get their boats out of the water by backing their trailer and then their entire tow vehicle into the ocean to try and pull their boat out.  They would then jump out of whatever they were in and slip on the slick boat ramp and fall face first into the water.  Good times.

  15. Topsail in the first pick, followed by Beverly Beach in Flagler Beach.  There is also a place called Red Coconuts in Fort Meyers Beach but the actual beach sites are more expensive than the fort and extremely tight.  You might not be able to open your awning as your neighbor is that close.  If he really likes driving then he should check out the keys.  The beaches are not the nicest Florida has to offer but the water and the views are not to be experienced anywhere else.
