It clarifies a whole bunch of stuff. Turns out the initial reports only really gave his side of the events, which as we know now were also totally false.

That's got to be the spot, although how he'd have gotten in there without someone seeing him with a boat...

Agreed. I'd have thought they could make him take it down at least pending resolution of the case, but seems not.

I am surprised he hasn't gained many subscribers or views.  Although when did the article @Travisma drop?  If it was recent it may still gain some traction.

It looks like the Sheriff released their video to the media this past Monday 8/31.

At least that's when the story started re-appearing on line.

Thanks for posting the link @Travisma

This does clarify that the original report that said he used a Disney boat to access the island was false.

I assume he’s out on bail. I kind of doubt that he will get jail time.

    TCD

He might, if they want to make an example of him to discourage others from copying his antics.

I've longingly looked at the various canals throughout the property thinking they would make for some nice kayaking!

Yeah that's the one thing that doesn't get mentioned. Although could also be that they know and aren't saying to discourage anyone else from trying it.

If you look at google satellite view and go to the N end of bay lake it looks like a little dock is on the lake at the end of a dirt road Bay Ct.  It's up near the boat repair area but off to the right.

    oh and also this...
"his camouflage-colored van with a decal that read “Wildlife Field Biologist”."

    :ROFLMAO-1:

I did a google map search to see where that neighborhood was located where they found the van.

If the correct results can back it's not that close to Bay Lake.

It would be interesting to see where he launched from and where they caught up to him.

  5. This has been on a lot of media outlets down here in FL.

The video chronicles around a dozen deputies searching the deserted island for McGuire – on foot, on boat – and takes on an almost surreal quality.

Indeed, check out the cop who asks at the 4:30 mark, after entering a particularly foreboding building, "What is this, where they hatch baby dinosaurs?"

Article about some interesting/historical things that happened at WDW.

The Black Lives Matter awareness actions led by NBA players and referees in "the bubble" at Walt Disney World might seem like a rare instance of reality crashing into the well-manicured fantasy world of the vacation kingdom, but the walkoff was just the latest newsworthy moment occurring at the resort.

Just two years after WDW opened its gates, world history was made when then-president Richard Nixon spoke at the 1973 Associated Press Managing Editors conference. During a Q&A at the Contemporary following his address, he uttered the words that are now forever linked to his legacy: “I am not a crook.” The speech, and the American media coverage of Nixon's actions, can be viewed as the beginning of the contemporary chapter in U.S. politics.

In 1974 one of the most historical moments to take place at Walt Disney World occurred quietly in a Polynesian Resort suit unbeknownst to other guests. After months of trying to convince John Lennon to sign the contract to officially end the Beatles, the artist finally agreed. A lawyer met the vacationing Lennon in a ground floor suite in the Samoa (then known as Hawaii) longhouse. According to Lennon’s lover and personal assistant, May Pang, Lennon took a long look out the window towards Cinderella Castle before signing his name to the contract that officially ended the most successful boy band of all time.

In 1994, after winning silver at the 1994 Winter Olympics (despite the infamous knee-whacking attributed to rival skater Tonya Harding), figure skater Nancy Kerrigan participated in a parade at Walt Disney World, like so many other winning American athletes. However, she was one of the first to openly seem like she didn't really want to be there, and she took a lot of heat for getting caught on mic calling the whole thing "corny." She later said she was referring to wearing her medal in public, not to the parade itself, but the damage was done and her reputation as an ungrateful snob, deserved or not, followed her throughout the rest of her career.

Disney World has made plenty of news regarding the technology it uses to help run the parks efficiently. In 2015, Disneyland became the first theme park in the U.S. to receive zero waste certification at one facility, and a year later, WDW launched a tracking program that helped push custodial staff to dirty restrooms or overflowing trashcans. The tracking program, while lauded by the resort, brought concern from unions and cast members. The program launched less than a month after National Custodial Worker’s Recognition Day and has remained controversial even as more companies, such as Amazon, follow Disney’s lead in embracing worker tracking initiatives.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom has also helped lead the company’s efforts in being a good eco-steward. After successfully breeding white rhinos at the Florida facility, Disney and the Association of Zoos and Aquariums moved two of the rhinos to Uganda, making them the first white rhinos reintroduced to Uganda from the United States. One of those rhinos, Nande (the first white rhino to be born at Animal Kingdom) then gave birth to Malaika, the first female white rhino to be born in Uganda in more than three decades. Altogether, Disney’s Animal Kingdom participates in nearly three dozen Species Survival Plans. The park was also one of the first to give visitors regular viewing access to the veterinarian facilities, a trend that has since become standard in animal care facilities.

Since Main Street, USA, first opened in 1955, Disney Parks have always held a a mirror to reality. The fact remains that no matter how hard the Disney Company may try, guests never truly leave "today" when at Walt Disney World.

There's a hefty room discount out for passholders now too, although that one doesn't include campsites. It does however include 40% off deluxe villas, so if you ever wanted to stay in those swanky over-the-water bungalows or the spiffy cabins by the lake, now's your chance! LOL

40% off of $2100 is still a little too steep for us.

  8. Saw a couple of FB posts that Disney opened up reservation discounts @ 06:00 am for the resorts and the Fort for residents in the following states only.

Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, N Carolina, S Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and W Virginia.

Reports were that the reservations and call centers both crashed and are unavailable at this time.

One person reported that the discount applies to currently booked reservations also.

  9. Interesting article, making lemonade out of lemons

    https://www.cnn.com/travel/article/ghost-cruise-boat-tour-uk/index.html

CNN) — Gaze out to the English Channel from the southwest coast of the UK right now and you might see something unexpected -- a series of gigantic cruise ships haunting the horizon.
Their passengers have vanished and they're going nowhere.
While these ships, taken out of the service because of the coronavirus pandemic, are no longer carrying tourists, the eerie spectacle they've created has now generated its own mini tourism industry, thanks to an entrepreneurial local, Paul Derham.
Derham worked on cruise ships for 27 years, starting off as a cadet and later traveling the world as a deputy captain for P&O Cruises, but now runs two local ferries in Mudeford, a small beachside parish in England's Dorset region.
Derham noticed that some of the world's most famous cruise ships were being laid up near his ferry routes, as the cruise industry ground to a halt amid the pandemic.
Then he had an idea -- using his ferries to offer tours of these hulking vessels that would get passengers as close as possible.
Advertising via the Mudeford Ferry Facebook page, he began running 2.5 hour "ghost ship" tours that sail within 50 meters of some of the vessels, while he uses his intimate knowledge of the cruise industry to entertain his customers.
It's become an overnight success, and Derham has been inundated with interest from locals intrigued by the vessels they can spot from the nearby beaches and tourists traveling from elsewhere in the UK.
Meanwhile, cruise fanatics from across the world -- mostly barred from joining in due to continuing travel restrictions -- have also let Derham know how excited they are by the idea.
"I am completely overwhelmed with the attention," Derham tells CNN Travel. "And a little bit proud, without being big-headed, that we managed to pull it off."

Several cruise ships are currently anchored off the English Channel. Pictured here: Queen Victoria, Queen Mary 2, Queen Elizabeth, Marella Discovery, Carnival Valor and Aurora, off the coast of Weymouth.

Ships sometimes spotted off the coast of Mudeford include Royal Caribbean's Anthem of the Seas, Jewel of the Seas and Allure of the Seas -- gigantic floating cities that normal carry thousands of people.
A little farther west, the Carnival Valor and Cunard ships including Queen Mary 2 can be found
The vessels don't always stay moored in one place -- but Derham uses his insider connections to help keep tabs on a couple of the ships.
During his career at sea, Derham worked on board P&O's Aurora cruise ship, which can often be spotted in his local waters.
"I actually still know the captain of Aurora," says Derham. "So he tells me when he's leaving and coming back. And Arcadia, as well, I know the captain there."
Derham was working on board Aurora during its 2001 maiden voyage, when the vessel played a part in a dramatic rescue off the South China coast, saving the lives of sailors after their ship overturned in rough sea.
He recounts this story during the tour -- alongside history of the local area, and facts and figures about the big ships.
Derham knows all the technical details, whether it's how many engines each ship uses, or what type of propulsion the vessel has.

The real attraction though, is the view of the ships.
Take Royal Caribbean's Allure of the Seas -- one of the largest passenger vessels in the world, at 1,187 feet long and accommodating up to 6,687 people. Getting so close, passengers on Derham's tour get a real sense of this scale.
"They look spectacular, because even when they're in the ports of call, like Southampton or wherever, you can't get that close to a ship, with a good view," says Derham.
Many of those who book on the tour are keen cruisers. Recently, he hosted a couple who'd been on board the Allure of the Seas earlier this year.
"As we went past, one of them said, 'Blimey, I can still get their Wi-Fi,'" laughs Derham.

Kate and Kevin Dingley, keen cruisers and local residents, have been on the tour twice.
"We've been denied cruising since our Christmas cruise, so when the tour came up, it was a great opportunity to go and see the ships," Kate Dingley, a former lecturer at nearby Portsmouth University, tells CNN.
"It was a lovely atmosphere on board the ferry when it goes out," she adds.
"Everybody's friendly, often they're taking sandwiches and a soft drink, and once they've seen the ships and on the way back, we look at the scenery, which is rather nice from the coast."
Dingley took photos and video of the tour, including the clip above.
Thanks to Derham's link with the crew on board the P&O vessels, he's also able to initiate a few special moment of connections between his small ferry and the neighboring giants.
"I speak to the officer of the watch before we approach them, and they very kindly come and wave this big hand at us," says Derham.
Often, the Aurora will also toot its powerful horn in response to the Mudeford Ferry's own more modest horn blast.
Dingley says this was a fun, surprising moment for passengers. "They seemed delighted to see us," she says.

The two Mudeford Ferries usually take 80 people each, but to ensure social distancing, Derham only books 30 people per tour.
Despite the success of his Ghost Cruise Tours, the Mudeford Ferry route is still his main operation, so he has to work the tours around how busy the ferry is.
The unpredictable British weather also plays a role -- with Derham keeping a close eye on the forecast and planning his schedule around that and posting updates on Facebook.
Given the level of interest -- and the cruise industry's continuing pause -- Derham plans to run boat tours into the fall, for as long as the cruise ships remain in the harbor, and the weather is on his side.
He knows there's a demand for more tours -- and he loves taking enthusiastic passengers out onto the water.
"We're up into the 80 or 100 phone calls a day," says Derham. "We can't keep a physical list of everybody's name. We're just going to advertise it on Facebook, but it's going to be first come first serve."
"But if we see a break in the weather, we're just going to try to do them all day long, as many as we can, to get as many people out there. We just enjoy doing it."

  10. I had read that there were issues with Internet service providers Sunday morning, didn't know that Disney was affected...

    Posted on August 30, 2020

Due to a nationwide internet outage, it seems Disney’s Hollywood Studios is facing some serious technical difficulties. One of which has park guests taking the internet by storm to voice their frustrations.

According to a new report by Digital Trends, it seems select parts of the nation faced a massive internet outage this morning. These areas included Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Portland, Miami, and Orlando–home of the Walt Disney World parks and everyone’s favorite Star Wars-themed attraction Rise of the Resistance.

Due to this internet outage, park guests are reporting that not only was Disney’s Hollywood Studios opened 20-minutes later than its posted time (the theme park was supposed to open at 10am and WDW Stats tweeted the park was officially open at 10:20am), the park also faced difficulties with its virtual queue system for its Rise of the Resistance attraction — arguably, one of the major draws to the theme park at the current moment.

Got up at 7 to get to Hollywood Studios before opening and Rise of the Resistance reservation system is down 😫

    — Brad D (@braddewhat) August 30, 2020

    So far today:

    • Rise of the Resistance virtual queue opened early at 9:24 am (nobody was able to join it, don't worry)

    • My Plans on My Disney Experience not working

    • Park Pass Reservation System not working

    • Rise of the Resistance virtual queue didn't open at 10 am

    — Drew the Disney Dude (@DrewDisneyDude) August 30, 2020

Of course we rush all the way here and Rise of the Resistance boarding groups aren’t working for anyone 🤡

    — Em ️ (@nhlpoint) August 30, 2020

According to several recent tweets on Twitter, it seems the virtual queue for Rise of the Resistance wasn’t the only internet-based system at Disney not working for some guests. Some have reported difficulties with the My Plans tab on the My Disney Experience app in addition to the Park Pass Reservation system. There are also some complaints floating around with an overall issue with the wifi (at all four theme parks).

In response to these technical difficulties, Disney released the following notification on their app: “Pardon The Inconvenience — Some of our digital experiences may be unavailable at this time. We’re actively working to resolve this issue. We apologize for any inconvenience. ”

As of 10:52 am this morning, it seems no park guests have been able to secure a boarding group for the intergalactic attraction. However, we can only assume Walt Disney World techs are hard at work to resolve this issue and hopefully get eager park guests a spot for the highly-immersive attraction based on a galaxy far, far away.

I think we will see more open by next weekend for Labor Day.

    TCD

Jason and Disney had sent me emails saying I had to answer if I was keeping my reservations or cancelling them.  The next visit we have scheduled is Halloween which we are keeping.

Only concern we have is we now have the T@B camper and we had booked a partial when we still had the PUP.

We've used the T@B twice at the Fort in partial sites with no blowback.

Just wondering if they will be an issue with the new Covid rules

So.... are they sick of (understandable) complaints from AP holders or is attendance a lot lower than expectations?

Couple of speculative articles I've seen said that attendance is below expectations, and has been declining each week over a 5 week period.

And passholders have become pissedoffholders saying lack of available reservations, no park hopping, closed attractions, etc making the value of the pass not equal to what they paid.

Disney's comeback was they were offering the chance to get out of the passes, but there was sooo much conflicting information of how to do it and how much $ people would get back.

One article said you got back the value of the remaining months on your pass.

Another article said they deducted the value of what you used and you got back the remainder, so FL passholders that used their passes a lot got back nothing.

  13. Get them while you can....

According to the Disney Park Pass theme park reservation calendar, Disney has completely refilled each and every day in September and October for Annual Passholders. This is the most widespread reallocation of Park Pass availability we’ve seen yet. Dates such as Labor Day weekend and Halloween are now completely available for booking for Annual Passholders.

  14. I was able to locate the article about the differences between the weekend attendance and weekdays.

    https://blogmickey.com/2020/08/how-much-worse-is-it-to-visit-disney-world-on-the-weekends/

This are the most surprising differences at AK

Just like the other parks, Saturday is the busiest day of the week at Disney’s Animal Kingdom too. Unlike normal trends in the past, we don’t see a fluctuation in the days of the week that are busy for a theme park. Now, the advice is: avoid the weekends at all costs. When compared to other days of the week, here’s how Saturday’s wait times stacked up:

    • 10% longer waits than Sunday
    • 121% longer waits than Friday
    • 134% longer waits than Thursday
    • 146% longer waits than Wednesday
    • 128% longer waits than Tuesday
    • 123% longer waits than Monday

The data is shocking. While other theme parks have double-digit differences in wait times, Animal Kingdom kicks it up a notch and hits triple-digit differences between the weekends and weekdays. If there is any park where it’s outright silly to visit on the weekends, it has to be Animal Kingdom.

Can anyone recommend any good shady partial hookup sites?  I have an upcoming trip and am looking to put in site requests in order to get the type of site I want(if I can't get the specific site I request).  My main issues are a fair amount of shade, an close proximity to a comfort station and transportation.  Any advice would be most appreciated.

It's hit or miss on the majority of the sites.

One may be shady in the morning but sunny by mid day or evening.

Most are shady at least part of the day.

  16. For the most part, news outlets are reporting that attendance is well below what Disney was expecting.

Even if they open up the parks to higher attendance counts, the experts are speculating that some families with children are not planning on going to the parks.

But in the same vein, some FB posters are saying the parks are mobbed.

There was an interesting FB post that showed the difference in attendances between Saturday and weekdays.  Most of the best days were Tuesday/Wednesday.
