  1. Okay....this is going to sound really off the wall, but I have seen this done.  Many times in fact.

Get a cabin cruiser.  It will serve two purposes.  Your DH will have a boat, and you will have a camper.  Yes, a camper!  That same boat you can sleep in while gently rocking back and forth on a body of water, you can sleep in while it is parked on the trailer. All you need is a sturdy set of portable steps to get in and out of the boat with while you are camping in it at the Fort.

Yes, Whitney....I've seen many people camp in their boats at FtW.  You just have to think out of the box and make that boat multi-purpose.

Problem solved.  You can buy me a diet coke next time you're at the Fort!!

Great idea Deb.  I have seen that too, and in some surprisingly small boats.  People also stay in them at boat launch parking lots overnite before launching in the AM.

Course, you could go the other way and get one of those motorhomes they showed off a couple of years ago that drive right into the water and turn into a houseboat.....

    :D ;) :D :) :)

  2. Another RV Park we have stayed at.  It is located at the Lazy Days RV dealership in Seffner.  It is right off I-4 and only an exit or two from I-75.

It is in a good spot if you are using I75 to come to or from the Fort.  It is also good if you need service at Lazy Days or the Camping World on site.

It is almost too clean, as it is a very landscaped and well-kept park, mostly used by Rally-goers, RV buyers, or Service customers at Lazy Days.

It is dog-friendly. Really nice heated pool and hot tub, easy in and out from highway. There is a Flying J and a CrackerBarrel right nearby,  IIRC there are no pull throughs only back-ins.

It is also right next to the Lazy Days huge used lot, so you can walk over and check out the hundreds of used RV's they have.

  3. DD was NOT wanting to ride in the stroller this last time (3.5 yrs old).  I brought a leash (Yes, I put a child's leash on my daughter.  Much easier than worrying about her running off).  After just a very little bit, we convinced her that riding in a stroller was really the better idea.  I don't mind a stroller so much, but I guess it's because it's been so long since we've been without one.  Even in 2006, my niece was with us and had a stroller.

We got one of those child backpacks that looks like a stuffed animal w/ a tail which doubles as a leash.  I agree that it is better than the alternative of losing them in the crowd.

  4. We have stayed here only once so far a couple of years ago. It seemed nice and clean. A little heavy on the gravel everywhere but the website says they have completely renovated the campground and put in concrete pads.

Open year round, easy on and off I95, dog friendly, pull through sites.

8 miles north of Richmond.  Doesn't say if they still have after hours sites available but every KOA we have stopped at has had it (when they still have sites left.... always best to call ahead)

  5. We have stayed here a couple of times.  This campground is on the grounds of the Kings Dominion Amusement Park, although it does have a separate entrance before you get to the Park entrance.

It is easy on and off I95, has after hours check in, dog friendly, pull thru sites, and is open year-round.

The bathrooms are modern and clean, but if its cold out the seasonals will smoke in the bathrooms even though there are big signs asking them not to........ apparently it is an ongoing problem there.

It's also a little confusing to find the way to your site after dark if it's your first time there, but if you go slow and watch the marker signs you'll be fine.

Other than that, it is a good late night stopover.

  6. This KOA is off Exit 1 of I95 in Georgia, just over the border from FLA.

We have stayed there many times and never had a problem getting a site later at night.

After hours check in, dog friendly, clean bathrooms, pull thru sites.  Easy on and off I95

It is an easy drive to FW the next day after an overnite at this KOA. Or a good first stop NB if you lingered at the Fort a little too long on your last day....  :)

  7. Just stayed there in Jan. Have stayed many times since it is in a good spot for us to stop for the night.

Easy on and off I95, pull thru sites (they advertise the longest pull-thrus east of the Mississippi)

After hours check-in, dated but clean bathrooms, dog friendly

  8. Just stayed there again in Jan.  Clean, new bathrooms, pull thru sites, easy on and off I95, After hours check-in.  Sites right near a fishing pond.

Stayed there a few times. Some traffic noise, but nothing a small fan didn't cover.

    Used to be a KOA.

Best of all, it's home to Camper the Dog!  A super friendly mix that the owners took in years ago.

  9. FWIW, I once saw an EZ UP take flight and throw a 5 gallon bucket partially filled with concrete over the top of a MH.

I use a combination of tie down straps or rope to secure ours to the nearest solid object...like a camper bumper and picnic table or tree.

Agree.  I always use straps or ropes as well.

Don't forget, it only takes just a little more fabric than an EZ UP for a hanglider to take off w/ a 200 plus pound person hanging on for dear life....

  10. One comment that pops up w/Kenny is that he doesn't always call back right away.

When we used him, once we set up the dates, we didn't hear from him again until the day before.

Kenny is a great guy and will try and do anything to help, but as with others my take was that he is VERY busy and seems to concentrate most of his attention on what he needs to do the next day or two.

Thats a good sign that his business is doing well. We will use him again for sure.

  11. I've stayed at the Beach Club before. Like others have said, nice, but not home.

We visited the Boardwalk last month as part of our resort hopping.

Loved the little bar where the antique radios next to the tables play old time radio shows

Also loved the men's room where they have the crates of rolled up small hand towels

    right there for the taking!

I was able to get enough of them for me to dry off at the FW pool the next day...... :parrot:

  12. Hi!  Thought I would give this a try after being inspired by TCD, Lisa and so many others.

It's my first attempt, so keep that in mind if it seems a little "off" from the others.....

Ok, here we are just entering the fort:

    500x_custom_1253072665274_5_camperbikeride2.jpg

Do you like our new Camper?  Its great for working off the GiddyUpandGo's but my wife refuses to drive the thing.... I'm not sure why.

Ok, well anyway we get shown to our site which is right near the entrance sign: IMG_0045-1.jpg We even got a wreath to put on our golf cart

So, of course we have to take the cart looping right? So off we go to see the sites.

The first thing we notice from our last trip is that all the peacocks are GONE!  So are all the clotheslines with green underwear too

They seem to have been driven out by flocks of these things:

    purplefiendmingo.jpg

    They seemed to be EVERYWHERE!

    Allright, so on we go.

Next we see a site that seems to be one of the Shades of Green people:

    Stripes_664a.jpg

Now that is one Heavily Armed Recreational Vehicle!!

    Ok, onward.

We checked out the 300 loop w/ the more expensive RV's:

    LasVegasAirstream.jpg

Nice!  But there was a notice on the door, something about having the wrong color fiendmingoes?

Then we checked out the pop-up loop and found this site:

    340x-1.jpg

Later on we heard a rumor there were several families sharing this site while they visited Typhone Lagone.

We then swung by Pioneer Hall and heard some sort of protest going on. We kept hearing chants of "flush the fiends, flush the fiends!!" coming from a couple of people dressed in CRUISE WEAR?!

Across from them were these people holding signs and yelling back "go ahead, we LIKE being flushed"

    PeaceSign.jpg

Apparently they are not scared of the obnoxious people yelling at them!

On to the Meadows Trading Post.  We went in and looked for Fort Wilderness items, but all they had were these:

    0514091601a.jpg

They were all embroidered:  "KUNGALOOSH"    :yay: :) :)

While we were looping, we kept hearing sounds like there was a race going on. Sometimes it was really loud.  Being curious, we drove towards the sounds and found the source:

    PhotoPass01.jpg

WOW!  From what we heard, these race all weekend right near the fort!

Then it was back to our site to let the dogs out. I guess we were away just a LITTLE too long:

    25903_535127489718_165700298_31660028_1516827_n.jpg

She REALLY needed to go out......

After dark we saw this, boy is the Fort is an amazing place or what??:MickeyMoons.jpg
