  1. It's been a minute. 🙂

Just a quick update to this story. Our beautiful girl, Addie, will be 6 years old in April! Time flies by so fast. Addie has been such a blessing to our lives, we love her very, very much. She is a joy to everyone who meets here, after they get over their initial fear. She looks very intimidating, running up to someone to say hello, but she is a sweetie, and that's all she is trying to do.

She's such a good girl. I've had a fifth grandchild, my first girl, who is four years old now. She lives here on the same property with us and despite the enormous size difference, Addie has been taking orders from her since she was old enough to talk.

Of course all of our grandchildren have been taught respect for our animals, since birth. They don't pull hair or tails, or get in animals' space. But Ms. Tiny-Mite does know Addie's commands and uses them effectively.

As gentle and amazing as Addie is with children, and our friends & family, she is also a wonderful protection dog. NOBODY that she doesn't know will be allowed anywhere near the children. She's not crazy about strangers around us, either, but she behaves when we tell her to.

I'm so thankful for both us and Addie that Andrew chose us to be her family. She does have separation anxiety, which was why she ate Andrew's new fifth wheel. 🤣 We are a perfect family for that because there is always someone here. We have three homes on our property now, with nine family members living here. Addie is very rarely alone, probably not more than an hour in the past couple of years. That would be difficult to do for most families.

Anyway, thanks for listening to my brag post. We lost one of our feral cats on Saturday, so I'm feeling emotional about our babies. ❤️

  2. We have a pop up and camp in the tent loops. Although we don't bring our dogs to Disney, we do have ice cold air and security cameras that we could keep an eye on things, as well as the thermometer, to be sure there were no a/c glitches. Maybe others are doing that? Personally, I don't think Disney is fun for pets. We are away from them too much. If I had to bring them, for some unforeseen reason, they would stay at Best Friends while we were at the parks. The days are just too long for them to be alone.

Trauma at UF Shands? Makes me wonder if you had a hand in saving my son back in 2013.

BTW,  we live off 247, about halfway between Lake City and Branford. Howdy neighbor!

To the OP,  my son lives in a Keystone Cougar on our property. We've been very impressed by the quality. Only complaint is the stickers peeling off the outside.

Yea, usually the 30th is the legend of Sleepy Hollow along with a special guest appearance by someone on a large black horse.  At least that's how it was 2? years ago when we last went.

I went to the pdf link provided and was able to read the fine print better. It says no movie or campfire on the 30th due to alternate activities scheduled. Since I found out what Beach Bash is, that's great with me.

I'm guessing the omission of a movie on the night of the 30th might be an error.  They are having a Beach Bash that night, and in the past, they've had an inflatable screen and movie playing at these events.  They usually have the kids counselors and dancing and such at these beach bashes- your grandchildren would probably like those activities.

The golf cart parade comes right down the middle of the campground- starting at the hitch/unhitch area, and continuing to the Settlement.  There is plenty of room to find a spot to watch the parade along that route.

Thank you!!! Yes, the beach bash sounds like fun! My grandchildren are 4,5,7, and 8 so I think they may enjoy the beach bash more than the movie and campfire anyway!

I totally missed that on  the flyer, as I was reading it as just a place where winners of contests were announced. I may never have realized what it was, so glad I asked about. Looks like we have fun stuff planned for the kids for both days after all. They won't be doing the parks, just the Fort, so wanted some fun lined up.

  6. Thanks for posting! Our first Halloween and been anxious to plan for the grandchildren.

I don't see a movie listed for Monday October 30th. I wonder if they will still have the campfire that night? It's disappointing because my grandchildren will only be spending two nights with us - 30th and 31th. Obviously trick or treating on the 31st, but leaves the other evening blank.

What is the route of the golf cart parade?

Sorry, I didn't jump to that assumption.

I didn't jump to any conclusion either. I read it.

We were in the 900 loop last year and there was a group there that decided to turn it in to a "haunted loop" They had some decorations out that were more "universal like" and people to jump out and scare you. It was neat to see (the first time) but I'm glad they were on the other side of the loop from us. It appeared they had a half dozen or so out in costume scaring people.

We will be at the Fort for Halloween this year, and better not encounter anything like this. Guests do not rent the entire loop, just their site. Nobody has a right to extend their childish games past the limits of their own sites. There are lots of children who may be upset by this sort of thing as well. Family friendly is not = jumping out of the dark and scaring the crap out of people.

If I were out looping around Halloween, that seems like a fun place to be.  I like haunted houses, which seems like what they were trying to do. If their intent is to hurt people, I wouldn't support that.

Their intent is irrelevant to me. Staging a haunted house on your own site, where people can voluntarily enter, or not, is fine. Hiding at various places around the loop, where they could encounter someone just heading to the bathhouse, is absolutely unacceptable.

I'd be kicking ass and taking names. It's Disney, for goodness sake! What if they jumped out and scared someone with a heart problem?

My son has PTSD, along with traumatic brain injuries, but looks like an average adult. If someone were to scare him and make him fall and hit his head or something, they may end up with similar injuries. I wouldn't even be playing with people like that.

  10. Stuck here in Florida because there is no gas to leave. Although I have a full tank, and a 5-gallon can filled, sitting in traffic will eat that up in no time.

Because we are in northern Florida, I'm not overly concerned, but not looking forward to being without power for a week or longer. Once the storm has passed, if it looks like power will be out for an extended period, will probably take our dogs and head to Alabama or the Carolinas for a week of camping.

All the stores are out of everything. Gas has not been available since early in the week. When a stores got water shipments this past week, the police came before they would bring it out. Our entire town closed down at 5:00 pm today and nothing scheduled to reopen until Tuesday, at the earliest. Curfew in effect of 8:00 pm to be off the roads.

  11. Welcome! I also have a child (young adult) with, what used to be called Asperger's, as well as OCD and bipolar. I also have a brain injured adult son. I jokingly say my son doesn't have Asperger's anymore since it no longer exists. Well, that pesky condition was sure easy to eliminate, by the medical community, anyway. B)

As far as mosquitoes, they are not usually out in November. I live not too far from the Fort, and I think early October is about as late in the year as we see them. Even in the summer, they tend to keep them well under control at the Fort, and hand out free repellent.

I have only met one person here face to face, when he brought me my sweet baby girl, a German Shepherd that we dearly love. I hope to meet at least one more, since we will be at the Fort for Halloween. I know our TA, Jason Adams will be there that week, not sure who else. Hope to meet you, too, one day. November is the time of year we tend to spend lot of time at Disney. You never know what next year will bring.

I know you have a pop up like i do, so we use high performance coolers on trips as the fridge in the camper is just too small and sometimes hard to pack as you have to pop it up and slide a bed out to get to it.

We have an extra dorm sized fridge w/freezer for our pop up. It cools down super fast, nothing like the built in, which we just use for drinks. We pack in a cooler only until we are on site, then just transfer everything to the fridge. Much easier to deal with than a cooler for the entire trip.

It's Fortfiend's If we didnt have a thread get hijacked I think we would get confused.

Btw if you want I can add you to the list I maintain of clients looking to get campsites. I am a travel agent and sponsor for FF.net and would be happy to try and help you. Send me a message here or at [email protected]

Either way I hope you get in and maybe stop by to say Hi!

Glad you got our reservations a couple of months ago! I am looking forward to this trip so much, I feel like a kid at Christmas! I'm always excited about Disney, but this is going to be really, really special.

If your friend with a campsite doesn't have 10 guests on her reservation, and she has room to, she could add you and your family as registered guests on to her reservation.  That way, you're not a freeloader, and you're able to partake in all the Fort has to offer on Halloween night.

This is what we did. Added the grandchildren to our reservation, even though they may or or may not be there. May end up adding their parents, too, when it gets closer as we only have six people now. None of the adults in my family ever know what they want to do until the last minute. Just don't want to do a bunch of changes so waiting until plans are firmly in place.
