Speaking of music, did you hear all the oldies being played night before last?  I couldn’t figure out where it was coming from and then yesterday walking her dogs along the canal I found the source. We walked the can from the 1800 loop and when we got to the gate at the end there was a huge tent set up on the fairway of the Four Seasons golf course next door. They were in the process of taking it down, so it was just a one night shindig. Someone paid big bucks for that party as this was not your run of the mill tent. It had HVAC and metal/glass doors.  I watched them disassembling the doors and it took two good sized guys to move one door.

Like I told you at your site, we met that one helicopter parent to his dog at the dog park, so we have been avoiding it. We have been riding the golf cart to the dirt lot past the group camp8ng area, walking across the street and taking the dogs down the levee along the canal. We actually walked down to the back side of the STOL Port. I have only ever seen it from the road, but from the back side there are permanent construction buildings back there. I had to look it up on the satellite view to see where we were. I was surprised, form the campground it was only a 3/4 mile walk one way.

Missed the oldies tunes. Crazy that you could hear it over here. I can't imagine what it would have been on spot. We have never walked that direction, will have to check it out along with your other path. We have been avoiding the dog park as well.

  2. Tom yelled at a girl a few days ago looping around and playing her music way too loud. We could hear her 2 loops over. He yelled at her 3 times to turn it down. We haven't heard anything since. Dog park has been interesting. Lots of little fur babies there with their high matience mommies and daddies hovering over them. It has really spolied a lot of fun dog romping. Lots of security seen all over the place. Many uber drivers getting pulled over at the settlement drop off.

Kristi, we rarely go out to breakfast except for breakfast at Trail's End.  On Monday I have a friend coming in through Friday.  Maybe after she leaves we can have a meal together.

Sounds good, keep me posted. If it works out great if not then that's fine as well. Hope your staying warm. Temps look better for tomorrow.

  4. The castle is so nice. I love sites that do unique things. Great to finally meet you yesterday. You mentioned you thought we came in on Saturday. We actually did but stayed in Ormond Beach for a few days before checking into the Fort. Also the sweatshirt was from 5 years ago not 11. Travel does weird things to the brain. Hope we can chat a bit more when It's not so cold out and I have had some coffee and sleep 😉

  5. Holiday weekend, sigh.... hopefully they will be respectful of your site and not be too loud and out of control. I personally don't have a problem with how many people, living under the same roof are, on a site. Immediate,  families come in all sizes. However, the amount of structures allowed should definitely be enforced. If the rule is 2 tents then that is the rule. I don't care if you rented 3 sites and are just reconfiguring your tent layout. I really do get confused as to why the Fort allows this type of thing to go on.

  6. Here’s a reminder that hurricane season isn’t quite over: New storm brewing in Atlantic

*******UPDATE: There’s now a 90 percent chance the tropical wave in the Atlantic Ocean will become a storm or depression***********

We know many of you have unboxed the Christmas lights and thoughts of facing your [insert politician name]-loving nephew over Thanksgiving dinner has you dreading the holiday season. But keep this in your thoughts, too: it’s still hurricane season.

The National Hurricane Center has plopped an “X” on the map and a cone that shows a disturbance out in the Atlantic that, if you extrapolate the cone way, way outward, takes it on a path toward Florida.

But don’t do that. It’’s far too early and it’ll only frighten the dog.

Here’s what we know now: “A tropical wave located several hundred miles east of the Lesser Antilles is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms,” the hurricane center said in its 7 a.m. Saturday advisory.

This is the important part: “Development of this system is not expected during the next couple of days due to unfavorable environmental conditions. However, some subtropical or tropical development is possible around the middle of next week when the system moves near or to the north of the Greater Antilles.”

The hurricane center gives the chance of this wave developing over the next two days a near zero percent chance. Formation chance over the next five days, into Thursday are still low at 30 percent.

Hurricane season officially ends Nov. 30.

On the off chance that this storm does develop into something, it would be named Patty.

As for late-season, November hurricanes, there have been 36 named Atlantic storms, 21 of which became hurricanes, since 1950. The Florida Panhandle’s Mexico Beach can’t forget Hurricane Kate on Nov. 20-21, 1985. Kate hit Cuba and Florida as a Category 2 and, at its peak, had 120 mph winds.

Cuba has seen four — including Hurricane Paloma — which grew to a Category 4 with 145-mph winds, before making landfall in Santa Cruz del Sur in Cuba as a Category 2 on Nov. 8, 2008. And “Wrong-way Lenny” on Nov. 17-18, 1999 packed 155-mph winds in the Northern Lesser Antilles, according to Weather Underground. Hurricane Lenny was the second strongest November hurricane, behind the unnamed 1932 Cuba hurricane, which hit 175 mph.

I'm saying they are the minority compared to others who live in the area. Spend 4 months there at a time like we did and you will see. Same cars, RV's and people weekend after weekend.

I agree. I like to chat with people. Almost 100% of the time when I talk to people at the pool on the weekends, they are locals taking advantage of WDW amenities. We have learned to stay away from the pool on Saturdays and Sunday late afternoons.
