  1. Here is my dog Ellie getting a laser treatment at the vet.  Yes, she is wearing doggles.  She had surgery in early July to have 5 lipomas removed all over and looked like Frankendog with all the shaved spots.  She was in an e-collar for 2 weeks and had to have one of the incisions drained 4 days in a row (followed by the laser treatments.)  At the end of July she swallowed a half corn cob and had to have surgery again!  2 more weeks in the cone of shame and like 20 staples on her stomach.  She is a 9 year old Golden Retriever.  Sometimes she acts like she's a puppy, and other times she is definitely a senior dog.  But she's a great camping dog.

  2. As promised, here are the pics from trying this. I wish I could make them smaller, but I'm not seeing how right now. (My notes are just an added bonus!  :P

    1) I think the maps are from 2004! Pretty sure we went that year, and MK one says "Soarin' coming in 2005".

    2) I used MK and MGM/HS. Was a tough choice, but EC and MK were weirdly shaped.  I may still make another, bigger one with those.

    3) Would've made a bigger one, but that was the biggest zipper I had on hand. It is propped against my iPad mini for some perspective. I should've put a little loop for a key ring or lobster clasp to attach to a bag or shorts.

    4) The iron-on vinyl worked well on the 1st one, but the 2nd one got a little bubbly, so I guess the iron got too hot. (I used a teflon pressing sheet between the iron and the vinyl.) It was pretty smooth looking until...

    5) the incredibly hard step of turning right side out. You can see how wrinkly that made it. The original sweet tooth pouch maker said to leave a bigger hole in the lining for the turning, and she wasn't kidding. It is really hard to work with vinyl covered paper. I would advise leaving the whole bottom undone before turning.

    6) I would also advise top stitching the liner beside the zipper before sewing up the pouch.  My liner kept getting zipped up, so as you can see in the pic, I did a not so great looking stitch after the fact.

    7) I was reading on Pinterest that you can make your own laminated fabric just by using the iron-on vinyl, so I tried it out on a scrap of the liner fabric. That turned out fantastic! I may make a waterproof pouch with that instead of more maps/paper.

    I think that's it!

  3. Simple solution. if you have a big rig, request a different loop

I wouldn't say it is simple.  In our case, we had never been there and had no idea it was a tight loop or the need to request a different one.  I entered our details online when making the res and told them on the phone that we had a 40ft.  The people working there should recognize it might be a problem since they are familiar with the campground.

PS - we weren't the problem, it was the guy across from us with his truck in the road.  Once we got in, our MH and Jeep were completely in the spot.

  4. Our first (and only until Christmas!) time at Ft. Wilderness, we were in 300 loop and almost didn't make it into our spot (301 or 302) because there was a truck parked across from us.  If the yellow lines were there then, he would've been on them or on the road side of them.  I even knocked on his camper door but no one came.  Finally we got in but it was a huge pain.  We've been in a LOT of campgrounds since, and that ranks #2 in difficulty to get in.

So, I'm not opposed to those if people abide by them.

  5. I would call and have your reservations linked together and have them put a specific loop request on your reservation. I would follow up with a fax request about 5 days out, again noting the linked reservations and the loop request. I've had excellent luck with this process and even got four sites, not only in the same loop, but also next to and across from each other. Good luck and enjoy Christmas at the fort.

    Cool, thanks.

  6. So, we're going down around Christmas (we have 12/21-1/1 but haven't decided when we're actually heading down) with another family (they're doing 12/26-1/1).

We are both in Premium and have requested pet loops and to be near each other.  I think I also asked to be in the premium loop closest to the dog park.  Neither of us really need comfort stations or to be near the buses.

I'm guessing we should both send in the fax request I've read about here when it's time.  We probably won't even be requesting specific sites, just to be near each other, unless you all know of two sites that would be good together.

What do you think our chances are of at least getting in the same loop?

    Thanks.

  7. We were at the Wilderness Lodge during Jeanne, so I can't speak to what they do with the Fort people, but I am curious now that we only camp.

Got there a day or two before the eye came through.  My parents went with us and my dad kept saying we should postpone or cancel.  I was like, they just got hit 2 weeks before, what are the odds another one will come to Central FL?  Pretty doggone good, it turned out.  But it was all fine.  Disney made it very clear in plenty of time that everyone would be confined to their rooms for 24 hrs.  We bought some crayons and coloring books for the boys (then 4 & 2) and we had adjoining rooms with my parents, so we had double space to move around in.  We were supposed to keep the curtains closed and stay away from the windows, but of course we couldn't resist a peek every now and then.  As someone who'd never witnessed a hurricane, I was amazed at how it was actually calm in the eye and how the trees blowing changed directions after the eye.

We heard people out in the hall after it passed, but not before the 24 hours was up.  I think they still had the pajama party thing in the lobby so we took the boys.  The next day the parks opened and it was the emptiest I've ever seen.  Very nice.

Ended up at urgent care the day after that - one with strep and one with impetigo.  But that's neither here nor there. :-)

Whatever happens with Erika, I'm positive Disney will handle it. They have definitely been through it before.  And what are the odds Erika will come inland? ;-) Ok, never mind.

  8. I realize this thread is super old but just wanted to chime in in case someone else is in the market that we have the screen in the link above and love it.  Have had movie nights at several campgrounds.

We did have an inflatable one before, but it was too loud and people like me who can't hear dialog over background noise didn't like it.

  9. Hi, did not see any info in a search so I apologize if there is info here already.

I plan on making some tablecloths for Christmas at FW.  Does anyone know the measurements of the picnic tables there?

Seems like there are 2, maybe 3 different sizes of tables at campgrounds I've been to.  State parks usually have the giant concrete ones.  Some places have the small wooden ones, and some have a slightly larger version of that.  I'm thinking FW is the one in the middle, but I could be remembering wrong.

Anyone there now want to take some measurements?  Please & thank you.

  10. When you call, please report back on what you're told.

This monkey business they've been pulling with the reservations policies is a moving target.  Your reservations are for the busiest time of year, and I'm very interested to hear what they tell you.  If they tell you that you have to cancel the entire reservation and rebook, you're not going to get those dates back.

If you need to drop days at the end of your reservation, that can still be done at check-in, with no problems.  I had to do that with my recent 4th of July reservation, and the CM at check-in allowed it with no questions asked.

    TCD

    Will do.

Interestingly, I just went to MDE and clicked Modify and it brought up drop-down dates for me to change the check-in or check-out dates.  That's as far as I got as I was too chicken since I don't know exactly what day we want to go yet.  But I will definitely try that before speaking to a person.

  11. Initially, that didn't seem to matter. People that had made reservations a full year in advance were told "tough luck."

But adding days isn't a problem at all, and hasn't been.  It's dropping them.

Just read some of that thread.  Did I read correctly that you were able to drop some?  We currently have 12/21-12/31 and 12/31-1/1.  Was planning on dropping a couple at the beginning and hoping to merge the two.  I really don't care about the merging IF they don't make us change campsites (both res are premium).  The last time I called, the CM said if I got that extra day online I could just tell them at check-in I had two res and they'd keep us in the same site, but that seems iffy to me.

I will call when I'm in a better mindset for calling.  :D

    Edited to fix my dates
