  1. We were in the area last week. Our daughter just moved there and we helped her move cross country. We added a few days into the end of our trip with a stay in Santa Cruz. It was absolutely beautiful. Whale watching cruises are great there if you enjoy the ocean. There is a cool boardwalk there to enjoy with kids. Eddie Money performed a free concert on the beach while we were there. If you are a foodie, you can't beat the fresh seafood, fruit, and vegetables in the area. We stayed in the hills and the evergreens smell like Christmas. Then you drive 10 minutes downhill to the beach and enjoy the ocean. We will be back. I have a close friend who highly recommended the Walt museum, but we'll have to do that on a future trip.

  2. Has anyone tried the Celebration at the Top - Savor, Sip, & Sparkle? I made a reservation, but I'm trying to decide if it is worth the cost. It's $99 per person at California Grill. From 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm, small plates and sushi are served along with access to wine, beer, and coffee. At 9:00 pm, guests may view fireworks from the outdoor balcony. Once fireworks have finished, dessert and coffee is available. We enjoy dinner at California Grill, and couldn't get a regular reservation, so I made this one for July 4th. Has anyone else done this yet?

  3. Thanks for the report! Kelly and I will be there in a couple of weeks. She has been so excited about the festival, but I hadn't caught the bug. She was able to snag tickets for the show. Now, you have me excited to see this new festival and the show. To me, Food & Wine just wasn't worth the expense of going booth to booth, and I didn't really experience any gastronomic wonders there. But, that may just be me.

It's always a pleasure to read your trip reports! Keep 'em coming.

  4. I've read some posts in the past that have said that I shouldn't do the online check in and instead just fax. Would you do both the online check in and the fax? When requesting adjacent sites, are both guests required to make the request?

My in laws would like to be in a site nearby, but they struggle with using "My Disney Experience." When I made our reservation, the request was noted. Is that good enough?

We ate breakfast at Trails End last Christmas Day.  It was good, but crowded.  The buffet was a bit smaller since they set up two identical buffets to keep the lines down.  Still really good food.

We have a reservation for 10:ish. I'm the only one in our group who has been there. I hope they bring the "A" game that morning because I've talked it up quite a bit to our group.

  6. The giraffes are my favorite. To get a great close up look, think about going to Animal Kingdom Kidani Village resort for lunch at Sanaa. There is also a viewing platform there. In my experience this is the best view and you can stay as long as you like. There is also a cast member there who can tell you more about all the animals you see.

And BONUS ... Sanaa is a great lunch and a nice mid day break.

I just heard from my daughter who attends UCF.

They have cancelled classes there and suggested that the kids go home if they live somewhere out of harm's way.  There's talk of evacuating the dorms and having the students take shelter in interior classroom buildings.

My daughter is an RA, so she's considered "Essential Personnel," and she is required to stay and help with the emergency plans that are being formulated.  This storm could be really bad.

Disney may be doing RV owners a favor by telling them to hit the road.  Even if they could provide rooms, the storm could be devastating and wreck a lot of RV's.  Folks with campers can get far away with the lead time that they're being given.

I think you make a good point. There is a good possibility that a category 4 storm could make landfall not very far away from the Fort. Most of my family and friends live on the Atlantic Coast between Vero Beach and Jacksonville. They are all evacuating and they have never evacuated in the past. Why take a chance if it can be avoided?

  8. Exactly TCD! They did offer a $100 gift card for our time, but it's just not something we are interested in doing. Whenever I do the math, it just doesn't compute. My husband was tempted to do exactly as you suggest, but I wouldn't let him. I was afraid our names would go on some list. Hahaha!
