  1. This brings back wonderful memories of my DD's first DW trip. Your campsite was very nice! I noticed your sign hanging from the tree...neat!
  2. Glad to hear you guys made it home safely! I'm sure you had a blast in the new camper!
  3. I can't speak for the actual week of Christmas, but we were there last year from Nov. 26- Dec. 4 and it was downright cold at times! However, there were two days that we spent in t-shirts/tanks and shorts. On the other hand, be sure to bring gloves and jackets. The morning that we left our home for the Fort last year, I was standing at the door holding a pair of gloves for each member of my crew. DH had me convinced that I was overpacking. I found a way to remind him while we were looping that our hands would be roasty toasty if he would've kept his mouth shut! We survived! Just be prep
  4. I'm glad we weren't hurt either. Looking back, we still get a kick out of it, but at the same time it did teach us a very valuable lesson. After that incident, the cart didn't move until EVERYONE vocalized that they were ready. The same procedure will apply for our upcoming November trip too. I'm so sorry about Molly. We lost our adult male Boxer last year, and it still hurts so much. Thank goodness we have one of his pups, Rocky! He reminds us so much of his wonderful dad! Btw, love the name Tessy Belle...too cute! Loving the TR so far!!!
  5. I agree with everyone else! The room appears much larger than what I was expecting, but I'm totally blown away by the verendah!!! I wanna go!
  6. We almost witnessed this very scenario one evening w/ a group of teen boys on two different carts. Very scary!
  7. No doubt, things could've turned ugly fast. The crazy part is that I told DH that we were ready, but apparently he mashed the pedal a bit hard and the cart lurched forward. Make no mistake about it, he felt awful even though we were okay. It certainly taught us to always be sure that we're braced and ready for take-off.
  8. It definitely sounds like this was a much needed trip for you guys. I'll try to check back in this evening for the next installment!
  9. Fast indeed! My daughter and I learned this the hard way. The crew and I had just departed the bus at the Outpost and were wiped out from a full day at AK. All was well until DD and I hopped on the back of our spiffy looking Kenny cart. DH was driving and luckily my son was up front w/ him, b/c when DH hit the pedal DD and I flew off the back and landed in the golf cart parking lot! Luckily, we were both fine and could barely catch our breath from laughing so hard. Of course we had a huge audience to witness our tumble, but somehow Disney magic has a way of making road rash seem funny! Sorry,
  10. That Kenny cart looks identical to the one that we rented from him last November. All with the exception of the awesome rubber chickens...hilarious! We tried decorating our cart w/ plastic ornaments. I kidd you not, by weeks end there was only one left. FAIL!!!
  11. Once again, I'm a day late and a dollar short with reading this TR. Oh well, I still had to leave a comment considering that you guys stayed at POR. You see, before the family and I first visited the Fort last year, POR had basically become our home resort. We absolutely love it, and you are spot on about the theming. Not only is it a beautiful resort, but we always enjoyed the laid-back feel there. Of all the buildings at POR, we've only stayed in the mansion section (Acadian House & Oak Manor) and loved them both. During our upcoming trip to the Fort this November, my parents will be sta
  12. Congratulations!!! Love love love the outdoor camp kitchen! Ours has a sink and burner that flip down on the outside of the rig, but nothing like yours. You guys are gonna have so much fun!!!!!
  13. Okay, it makes sense now. When you said basket, I had envisioned something similar to the baskets on the Dinosaur ride at AK. I was wondering how it could possibly contain your belongings, when you yourself are feeling like you're about to be launched helplessly across Central Florida...lol! I agree with renting a locker. My camera and I are one!!! Thanks for the advice. I'm OCD about being prepared and knowing what to expect. Don't let me hold ya up though.....keep this report truckin'!!!
  14. What a neat and fun opportunity for your DD's! Such a rewarding experience as well, but then again I applaud anyone who volunteers their time! :bravo: Glad to hear that they are in their teacher's good graces too! We've been contemplating a visit to Sea World during our upcoming Fort visit. I've heard that Manta is pretty awesome. Question: Do you think the baskets onboard the ride vehicle are secure enough to support my Sony CyberShot? Cool TR as always!!!
  15. I'm so ready to go back! I still can't get over how pretty this area is. Little River Canyon is breathtaking!!! So glad to see that you and your family had such a great trip. The pics you posted are wonderful!
  16. Just came across this thread and had to comment. My family and I stayed at DeSoto during Spring Break of '09. One word: BEAUTIFUL!!! We've stayed at many campgrounds, but this place is hands down one of our favs! The staff as well as the locals that we encountered were all very friendly and seemed genuinely glad that we were visiting. We love the fact that the park is within driving distance to so many different attractions. One day we drove into Chattanooga and did Rock City, Ruby Falls, and rode the Incline Railway. The next day we visited Sequoyah Caverns which was fantastic!! The tour gui
  17. Someone might've already mentioned this, but we always keep a couple of utility lighters in our camper. Comes in handy for when the pilot light won't ignite on its own. Bag of quarters!!!
  18. That's just plain scary, or as my daughter would say: Eveel!
  19. First of all, I suppose I'm rather late commenting on your TR. Just joined FF's last week, and I'm in the process of catching up w/ what's what. Fantastic TR as always, TCD! I LOL when I read this portion b/c I'm the one that coined the phrase "possessed duck" during you TR from 2010. Btw, glad to see updated photos of your Rocky! He's still beautiful as ever. Our Rocky Boxer is doing wonderful and mischievous as ever!!!
  20. This is great, and so in depth! What a great tool for newbies. Heck, what am I talkin' about?! I'm not a newbie to the Fort, but I still enjoyed reading it! Go Monique!!!
  21. Congrats to you and your family!!! It does my heart good to sense how excited you guys are. My family and I felt the exact same way when we purchased our first camper back in '06. Prior to purchasing our own, we had been borrowing my in-laws camper. Nothing like owning your own rig! You guys are going to have a blast, and it will definitely put an entirely different spin on how you enjoy your Fort trip!!!!!
