Disney: Pricing levels yet to recover

    Orlando Sentinel - March 14, 2011

By Jason Garcia and Sara K. Clarke, Staff Writers

Ever since the Walt Disney Co. began aggressively discounting to keep its theme parks full during the global recession, analysts have been wondering how long it will take Disney to return to full pricing.

Although Walt Disney Parks and Resorts recently posted its first quarterly profit in more than two years, Disney acknowledged last week that its pricing levels haven't recovered yet. "We're not fully back to where we might have been pre-downturn," Disney Co. Chief Financial Officer Jay Rasulo told analysts at a conference organized by Deutsche Bank.

Still, Disney has been slowly reducing the size of its discounts for months now, and Rasulo said he isn't concerned that the company will be able to return to pre-recession prices."We're on the trajectory to get back," he said.

  3. Did you know that the Fort:

. has a 10/10/10 rating from Trailer Life magazine.  This rating is the highest provided by the magazine.

. has four miles of canals.

. Wilderness name came from the fort on Tom Sawyers Island located at Disneyland.

. tree trunk trashcans are recycled props obtained from the retired Indian Village attraction that was open in Frontierland at Disneyland from 1955 to 1971.

. on average, has 80-85 horses on the grounds.

    . has 409 cabins & 784 campsites.

  4. Disney's description, below, of Ariel?s Undersea Adventure at Disneyland and Journey of the Little Mermaid at WDW sure sound similar. Do you think they will be the same attraction?  bus.gif

Journey of the Little Mermaid, a major, all-new attraction during which guests will travel with Ariel and her friends through their exciting adventures above and below the waves ? all against a musical backdrop of songs from the classic film.

Ariel's Undersea Adventure. This attraction based upon the Disney classic The Little Mermaid will offer Guests the unique experience of being submersed into the scenes and songs from the movie.

  5. Latest from Disney on the HM queue.

The new area will be open soon for guests to explore. Upon entering the Mansion?s courtyard, guests will be able to see, touch, hear, and play with several new, interactive elements that have been added into the queue.

A  preview phase will take place over the next few weeks, Disney will be gathering feedback from guests and adjusting the experiences to make sure they deliver the most fun for guests.

The enhanced queue will be open periodically on a limited basis until the end of the month while Disney fine-tunes the guest experience. The full queue will open in April.  The Haunted Mansion will remain open while testing.

  6. The RTS buses were ahead of their time styling-wise and in my opinion, I think they're better looking than the new low floor buses.

I can give a guest a better ride experience on the RTS than on most of the other buses.

I had one today and it drove like a dream, but sadly that is not the norm. Most are slow & noisy. They do have some design flaws and they do need to be retired. I wasn't around when they were new, but I bet they were great for the time.

  7. Breakfast Buffet -  $18.49 ages 10 and over,  $10.99 for ages 3-9.

Scrambled Eggs, Spinach and Feta Quiche, Hash Browns and Caramelized Onions, Eggs Benedict with Key Lime Hollandaise, Pancakes, Multigrain Waffles,Pork Sausage, Turkey Sausage, Bacon, Biscuits, Housemade Sausage Gravy, Oatmeal offered from the Kitchen, Grits with Bacon and Cheddar Cheese.  Cold Food Selections:  Plant City Strawberries tossed in Brown Sugar, Peaches, Florida Citrus, Banana?s, Boiled Eggs, Cottage Cheese, Yogurt, Housemade Granola, Assorted Mini Danish, Muffins and Cranberry Citrus Bread, Miniature Croissants, Mini Plain Bagels, G rapes, Whipped Butter, Jellies and Jams, Cream Cheese, Smoked Salmon, Capers, Tomato and Onion Tray, and Sliced Boiled Eggs

  8. I will be at the All Stars Movies overnight. It would great to you.

It would be nice to meet you too, but even if I were working, the odds of meeting a specific person on a bus are slim due to the fact that there are so many drivers and so many bus trips. I think the odds are about 1 in 6000. bus.gif

I stole your bus smiley, had to have it, thanks.

So what would be the best way to find you and your "dangerous" bus?  In the fort?  Zooming between resorts?

I'm exempt from driving at the Fort, and I'm thankful for that. You won't find me going between the resorts because there are no such routes. The best way is to let me know when you're going to be hanging out at the Fort and I'll stop by.

  9. I'm always there.

Things are getting busier, but still manageable. Just plan your day wisely and you'll be ok. Go when everyone else isn't.

    Besides, aren't you already committed?

I hope the bat isn't going to be used on the bus drivers.

  10. I would just like to know, who in the world thinks they have the right to tell Disney or anyone else they have the RIGHT to use any kind of conveyance on their property. If Disney says they don't want golf carts, segways, bikes or skateboards that is THEIR RIGHT, they own the damn property. Too many times people try to use litigation to get their way, right or wrong to gain access to something. If you don't like the rules then you have a choice not a RIGHT!

I'd give you an up arrow for that post Bob, but I see that you're ahead of me. So consider that I gave you a virtual up arrow.

  11. Plus, an umbrella stroller is easier to fold up on a bus...and we all know how much people on buses LOVE strollers.

I can't say enough about monster strollers.

And if it's one of the jogging stollers that fits 3 kids and dog, then you'll really get the looks.

If the CMs were following the rules at the turnstiles, most of those would be refused entry into the parks as they violate the size restrictions. Yes, there is a size limitation, just like for scooters. Do they enforce it, not usually.

Get one of these. (Shopping Cart) Would be real easy to find when you come out of an attraction. Plus, it'll hold a bunch of kids and their stuff.

Not to mention how easy it is to get on the buses.
