  1. Pick a holiday, any holiday!  Here are some Christmas at the Fort photos from November. Pardon the quality - these are from my phone.  I still have to organize the 1200 photos on my camera.

If you don't like blowups... avert your eyes! :D

    :rofl2:  :rofl2:  :rofl2:

Nikki (daughter) just walked in while I was looking at these and say "HOLY MOLY"! That's a compliment!  ;D We can't wait to get there and see all the decorations!

  2. Most of the threads have been about kid disabilities, just thought I would share my thoughts on some of the stuff my DH deals with when camping.

The Fort is just about the most accessible place I've ever been as far as the lay of the land.  Sidewalks everywhere, everything very flat and plenty of asphalt in all the right places.

Our disability problems mainly have to do with mobility issues.  We solve most of those with the ECV and we do things like I pull DHs socks off before he heads to the shower and we have finally found some hard soled slippers that he can get on and off easily.

We had to look long and hard to find a camping chair that would support his weight and still fold up small.

The only issue the Fort doesn't address is a companion shower area.  I really wish they would add one.  I can imagine there are many spouses that don't like using their RV shower (or don't have one in our case), but need to assist each other, and can't do that at the Fort.

That's what I loved about our cabin - the shower was wheelchair accessible. Nikki (daughter) doesn't use a wheelchair but does need assistance with bathing. I told Disney reservations she didn't use a wheelchair but I guess this is the only type of shower in the accessible cabins?? It was a BIG help to us having a shower BOTH of us could get in and out of easily. Perhaps you could write to Disney and suggest it? Sounds like something that would be a great benefit to those who need it.

  3. The kitchen cupboards are stocked with dining ware, cook ware, silver ware, glasses - all you're going to need to prepare meals other than the food & spices - so you don't need to worry about that.

I also found the kitchen well stocked EXCEPT I'm bringing a sharp knife on this trip. The ones in our cabin wouldn't cut through butter.

  4. Very, very quiet. The few people I've seen are first-timers and seem generally unhappy. Go figure. I'll take the quiet, though!  I'm also not near a comfort station so no slamming doors tonight!

How can anyone be unhappy at the Fort AND Disney World at the same time?!?!?!  :golfclap: Hope you have a great stay!

  5. When we went, there were only 3 of us so obviously this won't work if you have more people. We used the top bunkbed in the bedroom for storage. We folded our jeans, pants, and shorts and placed them on the topbunk. There was plenty of room to hang up the rest of our clothes in the closet. We had one of the accessible cabins in loop 2800 and the bus stop was literally right behind our cabin. We were in cabin 2868 in loop Willow Way and it was QUIET except I remember the 1st night we could hear fireworks from Magic Kingdom. We considered that a PERK!  :)) We didn't decorate that trip and didn't look at any of the other cabin loops for decorations but the camping area was AWESOME! My daughter's mouth just  :golfclap: Plus it was cold at night and that added to the Christmasy feeling. I read somewhere that there's a Christmas golfcart parade. I hope there's one on our return visit. I have a few decorating items set aside to take with us that we plan to set up this year.

Yes, it is 5 AM here but I couldn't sleep and couldn't think of a better place to be.  8) By the way, I like these new hugs better.... :hugs2:  :bighug:  :parrot:

  6. I am so glad we did! It was AWESOME! So peaceful! We are a bunch of rowdy old folks for the most part and on this trip the group was, my brother, my mother, my good friend and myself. I am the youngest at 48! We all fell in love with the Fort. My Mama loved that she was able to stay there and relax and EAT while we went to the park. I loved being able to walk out the door and not be in the middle of the crazy! I so enjoyed sitting on the deck with a drink and a cigarette! I got to relax too!

We will never go anywhere else!

That's what I told my husband after our 1st visit in Dec. 2008. Can't wait for our return trip this Dec!!

  7. Just an FYI, but on last check (according to MouseSavers) the Earl of Sandwich gives a 15% AAA discount. Every dollar helps! :)

    Yes they do!

    Here's the proof....

Cool! We haven't eaten there yet but it's on our list for our upcoming list. Discounts make it even sweeter! Thanks for sharing that little tip!
