The DVC News site is reporting that the new Copper Creek stuff at WL will open on July 17:

Here's a photo they posted of the cabin floorplan- they are saying that is a hot tub out back, and there is a way to get into the big bathroom:

This is a view of the inside of a cabin. And the closest many of us will ever get to seeing it:

And, check this out, they are renaming the big pool and waterfall in the main hotel, the Copper Creek Falls and Springs:

I was just going to post this. I will say the cabins look beautiful. But I doubt I'll ever get to stay there. Even with three years of points I wouldn't even have enough for a week in January (cheapest points).

I did read that starting tomorrow you will be able to see a model room at Saratoga Springs. But I would imagine that will just be for the studios or 1 or 2 bedrooms, not the cabins.

  2. TCD, you did a great job with those pictures. You were really thorough in getting all the details. I have to say I think yours was the first picture I've seen looking at the whole DVC villas building from that angle with all the trees gone. That made me sad. But so far the other areas look good so I'm hoping that when all is said and done we'll be happy with the final product.

    Thanks for that information.

I am surprised that the sales go that quickly.  No wonder they're building DVC units as fast as they can!

I went digging around and found a floor plan for the bungalows at the Polynesian Village Resort.  They sure look similar to the Copper Creek Cabins, and they show that the front doors house the pool equipment.  It looks like these cabins will have a plunge pool too:

Even with the Florida heat a hot tub seems more appealing to me than a plunge pool. Has anyone ever seen people in their plunge pools at the bungalows when you're out on the lake? We stayed at the Polynesian this past fall and would go past the bungalows quite often. We never saw any evidence of life in them.

I've read a couple of rumors that sales may start March 9th.  We currently have a reservation for the first week in January. We might try to switch over to one of the new rooms but might not. I enjoy the villas building. Although the last time we were there we had a nice view of the trees and we would watch the deer out there. Probably not so much this trip.

What is that little room on the back porch?  Is that a hot tub room or something?

I also was curious about what looks like three doors on the left of the front door.

I zoomed in on some photos that I have, and can see that one of those doors is for a small utility room- you can see pipes and what looks like a fire sprinkler system control inside the outer door in these photos:

I'm guessing the other doors will be for other utility functions.  It's an odd to me that the architect chose to put these behind doors on the front porch.  Seems like they could have been hidden on the side of the building somewhere.

One more thing that I'm surprised about is they apparently haven't even started selling the points for these units.  It seems like there will be a lag in occupancy when they open since no one has bought points for the Copper Creek Villas and Cabins yet.

Good catch.  And, you're right- I can't see how they could price these the same as the Polynesian Bungalows.

Another interesting sentence in the article that caught my eye says:

It is obvious that Disney Vacation Development has declared 12 of the 14 cabins on the south side--the Boulder Ridge Villas side--for the DVC inventory.

Does that mean that Disney recognizes that the 14 cabins on the south side are superior to the 12 on the north, and that they'll save the cabins on the north side to rent out to unsuspecting suckers?  And, conversely, does it mean an non DVC member wanting to rent from Disney has little chance of getting a cabin on the side of the resort with the new pool?

For the little room out back, we don't know yet. It does look like a screened in porch. I am all in favor of a hot tub out there. Plunge pool? Not so much.

I don't know about the three doors in front, my guess is utility rooms.

On the DVC site I go to they gave the timeline for the span between the declaration being filed and sale of points. I think VGF was 6 weeks, Poly was 5 days.

Actually, here's another breakdown from there:

This is how the poly went-

Poly declared on January 7, 2015
Points chart and prices revealed January 8
Existing members could purchase January 12
    Member previews began January 13
    General sales began February 9
Reservations for poly owners began February 11
Reservations for others began February 25
    Resort opened April 1

So if it goes anything like the Poly, it will move fast.

I also caught the part about the cabins on the South Side. That is the only side that would appeal to me for a cabin so I guess that's good for me they'll retain it for DVC points. So yes, a non DVC member would probably end up on the other side if they're paying cash. But if they rent points from a DVC member, which is usually a cheaper option anyway, they could be on the other side.

Sadly we lost our best camping boy Brady about a week ago.  He was just a month shy of his 15th birthday.  He got to go to Disney 11 times in his nearly 15 years, and I'll dearly miss our daily walks along the 300 loop canal.  I put up some photos and a tribute to him here if you'd like to see it (you don't need a FB account to view)...

I have so many photos of him at the Fort over the years, but here's one of the more recent ones from one of our canal walks. That look pretty much says it all. Our very first morning at the Fort every trip, I'd barely get through my first cup of coffee before he started "telling" me it was time to take our walk.  And it didn't matter what site we were in, he always knew the way.  :)

I'm so sorry. That was a beautiful tribute in the Facebook link.

  6. My vote would absolutely be Yosemite Valley, but I'm not sure it that's more than a two day drive for you. We went last summer and I thought it was one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. So much natural beauty to explore.

How about Yellowstone? That would be closer to you.

We really enjoyed Washington DC but I agree with the others that your two youngest ones might be too young. I think kids have to be at least 7 to get much out of that trip.

From the looks of things, I'm sure that new pool will be open this summer.

Are you going to be staying on one of the new cabins?

Sorry, I spelled that wrong- I meant Cabin$.

If the points per night are comparable to what they ask for a bungalow over at the Poly that will be a no. We have 200 points a year...that won't even get two nights in a bungalow.  We've booked a two bedroom in the (old) villas, and I'm fine with that.

We were at the Poly 17th-23rd.

Aw, we missed you by a week. We stayed in the DVC studios and loved it. Wasn't sure how we would like it because I had read some negative things about it but we agreed we would definitely stay there again. Never got into Trader Sams so I guess we have to go back!

  9. When we did it several years ago we got a fantastic discount on the tickets. From my understanding the discount is not nearly as good as it used to be. My kids all did the program at the Living Seas (is it even called that anymore? ha). My two older girls were in a separate class, they liked it well enough. It focused a lot on conservation. I went with my youngest to her class. It was good, but about an hour too long. The kids were engaged for the first half, then they all kind of fizzled out, it was just long.

I certainly don't regret doing it. The kids learned something, there were backstage experiences, plus we got the great discount which enabled us to take the trip in the first place.

Only my youngest would be eligible to take it now and they do have a cool looking class on film or photography, I kind of forget. If they gave a decent ticket discount I wouldn't hesitate.

So they tell people to stay in their rooms and the ones who don't get characters and candy. Nice lesson.

I was there speaking with the concierge and like he said, people are going to come out anyway. It really was not that bad here. If they announced they were opening there would have been a mad rush. People found out and made it there, believe me.

Just got word that Disney Springs is opening tonight.

  11. Had a message on our phone early this morning to stay in room. But we just went up to the Great Ceremonial House and Captain Cooks was open. Characters were just starting to appear in lobby and they had activities lined up for the kids. We also scored some candy that would have been used at the Halloween party last night. It's windy, not very rainy at the moment, but not horrible.

  12. We are currently at the Polynesian. They had crafts, games and characters in the lobby until 9:00. They set up a big buffet at 'Ohana and we were told it would be offered at a "significant discount" although no one could actually tell us what it would be. We ended up eating at Kona where our waiter told us he had absolutely no idea what the plan was, where he would be spending the night.

We ate at the Fort last night and on the bus ride out they were picking up people who were being evacuated from the cabins. These were mostly families with small children who had luggage and strollers in tow. Apparently they had to bus it to the different hotels they were being sent to. I thought that was a bit rough, these poor people were loaded down plus it was already dark out. Couldn't they have provided a van for them or something? They were all miserable.

We'll see what tomorrow brings. We've been told to stay in our rooms until further notice. Oh, and around 2:00 we had a message they had boxed lunches for us down at Captain Cooks for $12.99. We went down to check it out and none of the employees knew what we were talking about. We ended up buying a few things from their refrigerated cooler but we did see people later with their boxed lunches.

    Yes!  Thank you so much.

Betty and Chet were our neighbors  and friends.  Wonderful people, very sharing and helpful.  Chet never bragged about his work building MK.  He did sand our wood floor we put in our trailer, because he wanted it done right!  My dog Oly LOVED him.  She would whimper and 'talk' to him from several homes away whenever she saw Chet in his yard.  All the dogs, cats and neighborhood children loved Chet.  He was a dog/kid magnet.

    Wow, that's so cool!
