  1. I'll take some hints and must do's as well. We are camping at Sweetwater Forest in Brewster, MA from July 13-19 next summer. One day is set aside for Thomasland in Edaville and the rest are wde open for things to do.

    Best Regards,

    Norm

I'm not familiar with that campground but I believe Brewster in on the bayside, which is really nice.  I think the water is warmer and when the tides go out there are little tide pools. We like Mayflower beach in Dennis.

Besides what I posted above, it sounds like you'll have kids with you if you are going to Edaville.  Not sure of their ages but the Sandwich Heritage Museum just opened an adventure park with zip lines and rope courses.  We went for the day and really enjoyed it.  There's a big inflatable water slide park on route 28, might be Hyannis, not sure.

You will be going off the Cape to go to Edaville so be aware of the bridge traffic, depending on when you go.  If you don't mind going off Cape, Plimoth Plantation is pretty cool, in Plymouth MA.  It's a recreated settlement and all the actors stay in character as their pilgrim counterparts.  Thankfully they also have recreated some aspects of the native Americans also.  Plymouth harbor is nice, you'll see the Mayflower, Plymouth Rock.  East Bay Grille is a good restaurant there, and Cupcake Charlie's (also on the Cape, at Mashpee Commons) is good.

A whale watch is fun.  We go out of Provincetown. We also try to get to the drive in theatre in Wellfleet.

Same goes for you, any questions just ask.

  2. The wedding is in Oysterville, Ma and the reception is at The Beach Club Centerville, MA. We are staying at a quality inn in Hyannis (or something like that?).

We know nothing about that area, so any tips would be great!!

Very nice! I believe the Beach Club is near Craigville Beach, which is nice.  You'll be in Hyannis which is probably the busiest/most congested place on the Cape.  But you won't lack for convenience, like places to eat.  Just be aware that route 28 (the main route) gets extremely busy in the summer so plan on leaving extra time when traveling on it.

Hyannis has plenty to do.  Take a walk down Main St., it's kind of old fashioned, some unique little shops.  Also nearby is the Kennedy museum.  It's small but gives a nice glimpse of the Kennedy's life on the Cape.  You can also take a duck tour, or a harbor tour, both out of Hyannis.  We've done both and enjoyed them.

Not sure how much extra time you'll have there but if you can make time for the National Seashore beaches which are out on the arm of the Cape, heading towards Provincetown, they really are beautiful.  Just be aware that the seal population has exploded which means they've had a lot of great white shark sightings in the past few years.  The beaches did close a few times this summer.

Chatham is another quaint little town, with a nice center to walk through.  Be sure to seek out the Chatham Lighthouse.  If you find yourself in Dennisport, you must stop at Sundae School for ice cream.  We love it.

If you have any questions just ask!  And enjoy, the Cape is really beautiful and unique.

  3. My kids did this on our last trip. We were only there for one day before we left on a cruise so DH and I hung out at the resort and the kids were on a quest.

They were at HS before opening so they could immediately do Toy Story, TOT and RNRC. I think they were out of there shortly after 10. Next stop was AK. They didn't do much here, I know they did Everest for sure, would have to ask them what else. I think from there they went to Epcot. Again, can't remember what they went on. Probably Spaceship Earth and the ride in Mexico. Doubt they would've waited for the bigger rides. Then they headed to MK mid afternoon for the three fastpasses they had made. Then they spent the rest of the night there.

It was like a challenge for them, they were thrilled they did it and were texting us and sending us pictures along the way. They were pretty beat the next day but they said it was worth it.

  4. I've used them several times and would recommend them.

On one trip my mother-in-law left her park ticket at home (in Massachusetts!). I called Undercover Tourist and they worked with me to find my order, cancel out that ticket and got her a new one. They were great to work with during a stressful situation.

  5. Wonder if the Walt's Train Room is going away?

I don't think so. No construction going on in the existing villas building. They're converting some rooms in the main lodge to DVC and building separate cabins along the water. So they shouldn't be anywhere near the Iron Spike room! But then again we have the history of poor decisions on Disney's part...

  6. Thanks for he recommendation. One of the Sherman brothers was providing some of the narration on the Walt Disney biography. He made a comment at one point about how Walt said they had done a good job on something, and that was the only time Walt had ever praised them. Wow. That point about Walt recognizing that he was not the same person as the image he portrayed in public was really interesting. I would have thought Walt was the type to give a lot of positive reinforcement and praise. Apparently that's not how he operated.

I thought that point was interesting too, that Walt so badly wanted to be that easygoing persona that the public knew him as, and yet he knew he wasn't.

  7. We've made several stops to hang out in the iron spike room, particularly when we're staying in the villas. It's really interesting to see the displays in there plus it's a nice cool place to go on a hot afternoon. My girls used to love going in to play checkers there.

I really enjoyed the Walt Disney special, learned a lot of things I hadn't known before. If anyone is looking for another documentary there is a good one on the Sherman Brothers, I think it's called 'The Boys.' They wrote many of the wonderful songs in the old Disney movies but surprisingly they had a very bad relationship with one another. It's interesting, but a little sad.

  8. The Boardwalk is a fun place. We've gone in the late afternoon for the kitchen sink over at Beaches and Cream and then rented a surrey bike to work it off.

Then once the sun goes down they have performers and some games set up. It's a fun atmosphere.

  9. I think I heard about it around July 1st, over on Mouseowners. I would have loved an event like this but I agree, it was announced with very short notice. Normally we book our DVC trips about 8 months ahead.

It's unlikely to get DVC accommodations on such short notice, but not always impossible. But I recently just looked into getting a studio at any of the DVC resorts for a few days the first week in October and came up with nothing.
