  1. Using a combination of the FF app and Brent's Youtube video to select a site.  FF app shows 1608 on the right (outer) part of the loop and looks like a top choice, but the video doesn't show it.  I am confused, but seem to recall it is on the outside of that loop backing up to 1800 sites.  Can anyone confirm?

    TIA

  2. We do Fort-only trips all the time.  Haven't done this at other resorts, not sure which DVC you mean but I would imagine staying anywhere on property is fun.  All have plenty to do and you can always jump in the car and go somewhere in the area.

Some have said it is silly, and perhaps it is, but when you just don't have the budget for park tickets, you take whatever Disney magic you can get.  Is it hard?  You bet.  But I try to make the best of it.  Are we "miserable"?  Nah.  Even the kids get over it after that first bit of disappointment, because we love it there so much.  Attitude is everything, and we make the most of what we have and try not to dwell on what we don't, or can't have.

It's not that we don't want to go to parks or don't like to, we just can't.  But the resort has enough for us to do that we have stayed for a week and had a great time.  If you have a chance to go to WDW but not do parks, personally I'd go anyway.

  3. Wow!

This is one of the reasons I am so glad I found you people.

I would like to thank (in no particular order):

Bill, for bringing this to our attention and sharing those alarming photos that hopefully will prevent many of us from a similar experience.

Mo, for the questions she posted…..which would have been similar to my own…..saved me tons of time and googling.

    Beckers, for bumping this thread.

Nacole, for the link to the deal at CW.

Everyone who contributed to this thread with helpful info, relatable experience, etc….

And finally, Todd, for posting a link to this article on the Disney Campers Facebook page.  As I've explained on another thread, I haven't had much time to peruse FF lately (moving again), and your link reminded me to stop in here!  I had to sign in!  I am so looking forward to the days when I am able to pop in several times a week again.

Our surge protector and "freebie" lock has been ordered (bonus:  Good Sam got me free shipping), just in time for us to return to FL to pick up our beautiful new camper that we bought last year and only used once!

Which reminds me of another thank you I need to post…..to Curt, for keeping an eye on our home on wheels when he is in and out of the storage lot where he keeps his rentals.  Which I would have never known about had it not been for him, and of course FF!!!

The benefits of being a part of this group are limitless.

  4. Agree with XBoater.  By the time we hit Orlando, we just want to get to the Fort, get a good site and get set up.  Then venture out to the Walmart or Winn Dixie out the back way.

Sometimes I would stop at the Walmart on the Ormond Beach exit off of 95 - easy on and off the interstate and only an hour or so out depending on traffic.  That only works if you're loading food right into the fridge/cooler/freezer, though.

  5. Short and sweet!  This I can do!  Feeling so overwhelmed by how far behind I am on TR's these past few months, yours gives me a sense of accomplishment - I read the whole thing!

The hubs looks so comfy in that chair.  I long for that kind of relaxation!

    Cute kiddos!

    Go GATORS!!!

  6. So did you stop at the Cat's Meow before or after the moonshine consumption?  hehehe

Why are Rick and Richie wearing ponchos at the distillery?  Is there a whiskey barrel ride similar to SM?  Only you get sprayed with whiskey at the end?

All kidding aside, this looks like yet another great gathering of fun people.  And what a beautiful campground!

  7. Sorry these are so large - don't have time to mess with resizing, gotta get back to work.

This was from our seats, early in the game, Josh on the mound:

Obviously I had to take this one:

I should have opened up the bun…..but you can imagine, it was soooo good!

  8. No-hitters are a thing of beauty. I would love to have been there even though I am not a fan of either team.

Glad you all had a good time.

It really was exciting.  I have photos, will try to post a couple.  Though, we were in the upper deck!

Is Geno's as good as the hype?

YES!  Next we will try Pat's across the street to compare.  Both joints had lines wrapped around the block, or we'd have done the comparison that night.   I have photos of this too and will share when I get a chance.

    Yup, you witnessed history.

Sounds like a perfect day.  Except for your team losing.  But, you'll be able to say you were there.

I could go for a nice cheesesteak right about now.

    TCD

how do you like yours?  wiz wit?

  9. We went to the Phillies game on Sunday and saw Josh Beckett's no-hitter.

Our first game as new Phillies fans and not only did they lose, but never got any hits!

But, it was still very cool to see, and we had a great family day at the ballpark.  Perfect weather, peanuts, ice cream, cold beer.  Then hit Geno's in S Philly for cheese steak afterward.

  10. I am thinking that at some point, they will need to offer some kind of discounts to fill rooms.  There's no way they're going to have enough occupancy with those prices.

I have stayed at all the WDW resorts except for Old Key West and Shades of Green, so I've already pretty much got that covered.

Since they just re-did the dam at the canal behind the 300 loop, I am convinced that there isn't going to be water transportation to the MK.  At least not anytime soon.

    TCD

I hope so.  And that someone else's theory of them closing the full hook ups due to visibility from the hoity toity upper floors is also wrong.

Funny, we have stayed at OKW and SOG, but not many others.  OKW was a promotion 5 or so years back, and SOG was as a guest of my BIL who is military.

  11. Wow, those are some elaborate slides.

A regular guest?  Are you entering a contest for free stays or giving up some regular WDW trips to do it?  Because you could stay at the Fort many times over for what one weekend will run at this place!

I am not sure I'd spring for those rates even if we could afford them.  I think I'd rather try one of the WDW resorts we've never stayed at.

Another thing I was thinking after reading the comments about how they don't want to be overly Disney themed or otherwise connected to it….I suppose that eliminates any speculation about water transportation to the MK?

  12. Of course the baby steals the show in this TR, followed by your adorable wife……oh and then there's that beautiful new rig!

We got a Cougar XLite 32RBK TT last Dec.  Unfortunately we only got to use it once and had to leave it down in FL where we bought it since there was a bad snowstorm the weekend we had to drive home, we had no place to store it here in PA, and we'd never winterized a camper since we'd lived in FL all of the years we've been RV owners before buying this one.

But, we are in the process of making our plans to go back down and retrieve it and I can't WAIT!  It is so pretty and comfortable!  We have 2 teenage boys and the back bunk area is perfect for them.  I predict one day you may have a similar need!

One of my friends laughed because on the interior, the model name (Cougar) is carved into the wood trim above the bed.  As it happens I am just a little bit older than my husband.

  13. TCD you know you're gonna go bounding down the banks of the canal from the Fort, with your inner tube around your waist, nose plugs dangling from your neck, clutching last year's mug expecting to float along that river and have as many Diet Cokes as you please!

Your description of a "real" security guard made me laugh.  I always call those guys "Wackenhut cops".  But only the ones who take their jobs a bit too seriously.  You know, the ones on a total power trip because they have a shiny badge.  I like the retired guys who want to chat right after you woke them up from their afternoon siesta in the guard shack.

  14. Enjoyed the report.  Looks like all had a great time and ate well.  As it should be at a GG!

Here is another Hershey street light photo for Sil.  Took it last fall when we were there for the RV show.  There are both types in this shot.

  15. I am trying to lose weight and am dying reading this TR full of photos of mouth watering food!

    Rebekah your children are adorable.

It looks like this was a great weekend, anticipating the rest of the story from other fiends.

I cannot believe the tag fairy hasn't grabbed on to the torpedo meat comments yet.

  16. I would not worry at this point either.  I concur with the others that a TA specializing in Disney vacations will be your best bet.

However, I have been in this very situation in the past.  Another thing you can do is book the extra night(s) you need with whatever site type is available, even if it's not the kind you need.  Then, as the date gets closer, you can periodically check if you can switch it to all nights in the site type you need.  Worst case, you may have to wait until you are checked in, then go up front and see if they can keep you in the same site for your entire stay.  Chances are yes due to last minute cancellations, etc.  I personally have done this quite a few times.
