  1. Can anyone tell me how far it is from the Wilderness Lodge to the Settlement Trading Post? We normally stay at Fort Wilderness but due to the short nature of our upcoming trip we thought we would try the Wilderness Lodge. That all being said, I am not missing out on my buffet!

Can we walk from the lodge to Trails End?

  2. We are in central Pa and have pulled the 5er down several times. We usually stop once or twice down and once coming back at different camp grounds to make it a more pleasant ride for the kiddos. Now we have a MH though and I am going to try to push it and get there in one day so I can have fun.

We have tried to talk friends into taking their campers and coming with us but we are still the only crazy ones that like it.

I agree with the year long adventure, forever might be a little long and other places might need exploration too.

  3. Where in PA are you?  We just moved up here this past summer.  Haven't had the pleasure of dragging our camper all the way to the Fort, yet.  It's still in FL, but will be up here eventually.  Glad to hear we aren't the only crazies to be doing that!

I used to always wonder about all of the long term guests, as well.  But I eventually learned who all of them are and a bit of their stories from hanging out here.  Like you, I can only dream about being there all the time and envy those lucky folks who are.

The cart path was only blocked for safety reasons due to inconsiderate golf cart drivers/increased golf cart volume at the Fort and through that loop.  No connection with the guests in the area.

As for the other topic that has been hinted at, I agree with Lou……it doesn't need to be discussed any more.  Not even on the "debate" thread.  If anyone feels the need to revisit that, go on over to the Facebook page someone set up about the Fort.  It comes up on there just about every day.

  4. I second, third, and fourth the 1400 loop.  Big bear and little bear are great places to be with kids.  We will be there in June for a couple of weeks and we are also trying to get our "Requests" in for that area.  Close to the movie, pool, and a nice walk to the meadows trading post.

I have also pulled a large 5er in to those spots and it worked out just fine (after I moved a trash can or two).

  5. I, like Seals, am pretty far from retirement but it is still pretty fun to think about.  We had noticed a few sites being the same from year to year and thought maybe it was a cast member spot or maybe the campground manager or something so we asked at the buffet one night and the waiter told us it was just a year round camper.  At that point, my mind went right to.......THAT IS MY GOAL!

On a side note, I believe when we started remembering some of the more tenured wait staff's names and specific campers and sites from year to year is when I felt like I should be part of some Fort Wilderness group.......here I am hangin' with the Fiends!

  6. So my family gets to FW at least once a year and for the last 3 years running we have noticed one camper that is in the same spot. It is in the end of a loop right off the walking entrance to the Marina and Trails End, very close to where the wand waiving traffic cops direct traffic after the fireworks.

It is a really nice diesel pusher motor home completely decked out with some awesome Disney decorations and a Mercedes parkedin the lot.

Is that someone on this board, or does anyone know the scoop behind this person? I only ask because it is my dream to retire and live at FW and it is really cool to think how awesome those people must be!

  7. Well, we decided on a Forest River 3170 DS class C after looking at all the options. Going to pick it up on Friday!

I have read every post on this thread at least 3 times and tried to take all recommendations:

It is on the E450 chassis so we made sure this until has airbags we can inflate or deflate to account for the load we are planning to haul. It has Bigfoot leveling jacks so unlike the last few trips with the 5er I won't be one of those families that are out yelling at each other trying to get parked and leveled. Bunk model with cab bunk so we have tons of sleeping capacity in case our 2 kiddos bring friends at some point but the bottom bunk is a jack knife couch fora comfortable hangout while we are traveling (it is a 16 hour drive to and from The Fort).

We did go new even though we were on a budget, but our dealer was excellent about our monetary restrictions and really worked the price down to the level we were seeing used models at.

Its time to start packing and planning as many trips to WDW as possible for 2014!!!
