  1. We liked Crystal palace.  The characters are Pooh and friends if that would interest your kiddos.  The food is American and Mediterranean (which we loved).  It seemed less chaotic than Chef Mickey's (great characters, good food, though).  Those are the only 2 we have done.  It will probably be a few years until we do another character meal because of the extra cost.  I don't know that one day of the week is any better or worse.  It would probably have more to do with peak or not peak times of the year.  If it is near spring break time everything will be busy.

As for the meals at the Fort we highly recommend lunch at Trail's End.  Also, the Giddy-up And Go (known around here as the GAG) take out meal is awesome.  The chicken is top notch.  We get a double side of mac and cheese!!!  Thrill picked it up and brought it back to our campsite and we ate it there.  The leftovers went in the cooler and made a tasty breakfast.

If you haven't been over to Wilderness Lodge and eaten at Whispering Canyon with your kids that might be a fun meal (no characters but lots of fun with the CMs). We have done it several times  and it is just a short boat ride away.  There are several mentions of it on the threads here.

No matter what you choose have fun!!!

  2. We have bought ours only through the WDW website, so I can't tell you about AAA.  They will mail you a paper voucher.  Unless it has changed, you have to go to a park ticket booth  (we always did MK) where they will exchange the voucher for your passes.  At that point they are good for one year regardless of when you purchased them.  The last time we got the vouchers the resorts were not able to exchange them for passes - only the park gates.

Any fiends got more updated info?????????

  3.    Since you liked the Air Force Museum so much, check out the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan (a suburb of Detroit).  It's worth two days of your time.

We lived just out of Detroit for 2 years and got to visit the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield village several times.  Occasionally you can watch a turn of the century style baseball game.  It is definitely worth a few days' time.  When our boys are older we want to do a trip where we go show them where we lived, see this museum, get some really good MIddle Eastern food, and do Cedar Point down in Sandusky.

  4. Electrical Water Pageant is a really really old classic nighttime parade that comes by the Fort beach every night at 9:45.

Be sure and invite Lou (our friendly WDW bus driver Fiend) to join you on the beach for the EWP.  It is one of his favorite things in the world.  :hah:

Where IS he, by the way?  Haven't heard from him in a while......

  5. Here are my 2 cents.  Of course with inflation they are negative numbers - so all readers will probably have to pay to read, but....

I love Disney.  I like Starbucks.  I do enjoy a specialty coffee from there every now and then - especially when I have a gift card from a student.  Those grande or venti treats are a treat, a pick-me-up, from my everyday life.  You know, those days when you are NOT at Disney.    Soooooo, I don't NEED Starbucks when I am at the World.  Granted, the Nescrape wasn't doing it for me, but hey - I'll just have a Mickey bar instead.

I hate to see favorite shops pushed aside for any corporate company.  Can't people just be happy with the on site magic???

  6. I just don't understand not planning ahead and doing some research? Maybe because I'm crazy compulsive about planning I just can't imagine not making the most of your trip.

Oh my goodness!!!  What do you think is the percentage of people who go to WDW for the first time and do NO planning or research whatsoever?  I have lost count of the times on the buses that we have overheard people trying to figure out how to get somewhere or what was at what park.  Classic was when the couple asked me if that bus was the one to get to Universal.

So, yeah, I can imagine it happens on the cruise ships, too.  I just can't see spending that kind of money to go somewhere and leaving your brain at home.

  7. Heck, I must be a pretty lazy cook! :) We do have a Mickey Waffle Iron, but we just use regular waffle mix!

No, you're not lazy!  I wanted to get a Mickey waffle iron ('cause let's face it, everything does taste better when it is shaped like a Mickey head), but they are really expensive right now.  The mix they use is Golden Malted Pancake and Waffle Flour plus whatever it calls for to add with it.  I am curious if they taste as good at home.....  Probably not.  :(

  8. My wife does the Canadian Cheddar Cheese soup from Epcot, but she cheats since she has the recipe. She uses lowfat cheese for me, too.

I don't count that as cheating - especially since the butter and cheeses we keep at home are generally lowfat.  My thought is - it is better than nothing!  AND I can save the guilt for a vacation at WDW.

I need to try that soup sometime.  I keep meaning to order the waffle mix that they use for the Mickey waffles.  Amazon has it.

I got the recipes for some of our favorites from Boma, but haven't tried them at home yet.  Maybe soon, though....

  9. Has anyone bought this yet? We were tossing around the idea for Christmas but know we need to get ASAP or we won't be able to find it. We would be getting the Wii version.

    Ditto for us.

Yes I have it and yes, I have the Dragon too. Just place your Magic Band on the hexagonal position and the dragon will appear.

I love the game. The only downside is all the extras you have to purchase to fully enjoy the game. In order to play a character or in a new world, you have to buy the figure or icon. To use all the extra enhancements (new weapons, power boosts, vehicles, ex.) you have to buy the power disks.

I give the game a 4 out of 5 with the only reason for the mark down being the cost. It can get out of control quickly as more and more figures and power disks are released.

    Thanks for the info, Dave!
