  1. It's been a while since I posted any photos, but here was the latest scouting adventure. Troop 27 went to the White Mountain National Forest, just 5 days after the remnants of Hurricane Irene trashed the northeast with flooding. We departed at noon on Friday of Labor Day weekend and arrived by mid afternoon. We had two tent sites and were limited on the number of tents we could use on the sites. So we used two borrowed 8-man tents and then a few smaller hiking tents to squeeze in. This is not the kind of campground that you can fit a large RV in, but could easily fit a popup or T@B style tr
  2. Looking forward to more! I understand how hectic it is, I went with plans to do live trip report writing while down there and only did a few posts. Poor cell service made it difficult, the only place I got good reception was in the park, and I was not going to be distracted while there. Enjoy!
  3. Sorry to hear this, and while we have no experience with barium swallow, I can say we've had a lot of experience with x-rays and radiation. The newer x-ray machines are much more sensitive and use much lower doses of radiation than before, so you should be safe. I work in the environmental field, and have had experience trying to explain "risk" of exposure to various chemicals. As a parent of a child with medical needs, I am only offering this up to try and help alleviate your concerns, not to discount them or say they are unfounded. It's only natural to be concerned for our kids. But we
  4. We were just there on the 11th, and the food was great. Our server was not as into the whole theme as much as we have had for servers years ago, but he was quick with refills. Nobody was sent to the corner and only one person (our oldest, Justin) was forced to eat his vegetables. This was our first trip where we tried the whole notifying WDW Dining in advance of Justin's Celiac disease and not being able to eat wheat, oats or barley. The chef came out and they went through the menu and what was available, etc. - but the thing I did not realize is that these chefs will prepare the food separ
  5. Just transferring the photos over to the PC and will try to work on the trip report tonight or tomorrow but wanted to get back to you Ami - they did not have the Fruity Pebbles, but the staff behind the scenes at the food court were fantastic at creating custom meals for Justin any time he wanted. He started by asking for gluten free fried chicken strips, something that he has only had from pre-fabricated box type meals and never really enjoyed. But these were hand made and pretty good. They even made him gluten free waffles which he said were the best he's had. Can't tell that to Nancy th

  7. AT&T reception is not great around here. At MK for extra magic hours, had my nap and some coffee, so here's hoping to close this place at 3:00 am!

  11. Woe, I forgot how busy it gets on vacation! Sitting at Fantasmic now, have an 8:00 am Tusker House reservation tomorrow - sleep is over/rated!!! I miss relaxing at the Fort!
  12. We got in to Pop around 2:00 and took a nap to recharge in time for 5:15 at O'Hana! In line at Space Mountain now, but here's a few from the restaurant. Chef came out and prepared special food for Justin (Celiac).
  13. Yup, up at 1:30 to make sure we get everyone in the van and off to the airport on time. Really. That's all I got for this early. Let's see if I can remember that string to insert photo's....
  14. Why thank you - the kids get their good looks from the mom. I can't wait to start this trip and the trip report - less than 24 hrs to go now, just printed boarding passes. I hope to share a few more recipes if I get them during the trip. Somewhere around this house we have the recipe for the Flame Tree BBQ rub, the flank steak marinade from Boma, and a few others... I have a special place in my heart for Pop as well as the Fort. First time we went was using Amex membership rewards points after building our house (just Nancy and I). We booked a return trip with two other families less tha
  15. Oh, you are "Not "That" Ed"!! Here's a quote from back in November 2003 just before our first trip to the fort! Proof that nothing ever goes away on the internet! Twas the night before disney, and all through the house all the creatures were stirring, screaming "Where is the mouse?" The bags were all stuffed in the minivan without care, When methinks "Will we really need all that there?" The kids were all duct taped tight to their beds, while visions of It's a small world dance in their heads. And momma in her hot-tub, shot-o-whiskey in hand, and I at my chair reading notes fr
  16. So, the moment has come. All that practicing with ways to load photos from the road to photobucket so I could master the skills of doing live trip reports with an iPhone will hopefully pay off. Sure, I enjoyed posting pix of the kids on scout camping trips. Who doesn't like trying to type on a miniature keyboard in sub-freezing temperatures when those fingers could be doing something more important like breaking the ice on my cup of coffee? Or watch a mosquito calmly draining you of precious blood while you carefully try to position your index finger in a way to select and copy that little
  17. I am headed for Pop in less than 48 hours and the timing on this TR is perfect. Like you said, it's not the Fort, but I could not convince the kids to go on another road trip from here in MA.
  18. Great start to the trip. We flew once when our oldest was 3, our family doctor recommended a decongestant (Robitussin I think) to help dry out the sinuses and allow the cabin pressure to change more easily in the ears. It had the added benefit of making him a zombie for about 12 hours. I still remember draping him across the luggage like a rag doll as we wheeled the luggage through the terminal! Everyone thought he was so well behaved....I said nothing.
  19. So glad to hear about the treat from the chef at the Wilderness Lodge - seems like some folks really know how to spread some kindness. I still remember getting to the food court area too early one morning at Pop Century (like TCD, I am a morning person and usually go for a stroll while everyone else sleeps). Well, I walked up and tried the door which was locked. One of the CM's who was busy setting up the area came over and opened the door for me and pointed to a coffee machine that was already warmed up and ready to go. Made my day.
  20. Looks like a fun trip. Really sorry to hear about your mom, but that photo of her on the bench with a big smile on her face is fantastic. Can't wait for more of this!
  21. Loving this trip report - you guys seem to know how to make lemonade out of lemons and let your little one set the pace. It's been a while since we went to the parks with little ones, but I remember how different the days go, especially toward the end of the trip. But there is nothing more stressful than watching some folks push the kids past their breaking point and just keep marching along singing the "Do you realize how much this vacation is costing me?" mantra. Wonder how that works for them? Heck, we usually head back for rests because I get cranky and need my nap! Good luck on your m
  22. Man, I hate computer viruses. Any chance the folks at Norton could give you a path to a built in DOS version of their virus killer? I remember getting hit by a virus years ago that would shut down any and all anti-virus programs. Luckily, the guy at Norton (maybe it was McAffee?) gave me the tools I needed to launch a handy little program in DOS. When I rebooted the computer, I went straight to DOS and ran that command. Left the program running all night and woke up the next morning to a clean machine. Takes a long time, but DOS only lets one executable run at once, so that anti-virus pr
  23. Really looking forward to more of this, were headed down on Wednesday for a week at Pop Century and this is the fix I need! I hope the medical issues become easier for you soon.
