  1. Hello and welcome!  Your family will have a great time!  We're new to the Trailer life and have learned to go slow and try not to get frustrated.  While at the Fort recently I met a wonderful lady in the laundry room on the 500 loop who also had special needs children.  We spoke for over an hour about our experiences and she was very happy about Disneys accommodations.  I do not have special needs children but I did teach in a special needs environment before deciding to stay home with my girls.  My daughter has severe food and other allergies that makes it difficult to travel.  I am extremely pleased on how Disney takes care of our needs and from what I saw at the parks and Fort, you will be happy too!  We'll also be there at the end of October and would love to say "hello"!

  2. Just booked for Oct 27-31!!! I want more days but will have to stalk or make Disney kick us out.  My littlest one is turning 2 in October and I asked her yesterday what she wanted to do for her big day.  Her reply?  "Mickey Mouse, go to Disney World" , I've created little monsters! I figured everything was all booked up but decided to call this morning, TA-DAH!!! We got a premium site for out little 20 foot trailer so if anyone needs some space you are more than welcome to it.

  3. Good advice!!  This past time we did well, the pups were fine for 4 hours or so in the crates.  We came back for mid day rest from the parks and did a walk. I put both the crates where the dinette bed is w/o the cushions so they had their beds and we had walking room.  We will be doing more relaxing and less park time so that will make a difference.I crate trained the oldest b/c I worked when she was little and the other was a foster so he loves his crate too.

  4. We have 2 dogs that I'm up in the air about bringing. They both came along last time when we had a larger trailer.   My 9 year old husky/lab, Gwen, is set in her ways and can be a barker and doesn't do well in dog parks.  She has been snappy/grumpy in the last few month, so she is confined away from my kids.  She's happier with her own space and the girls can't annoy her.  Our other dog, Bob, who is one, is just a big dumb happy mix breed.  He aims to please but doesn't realize he's 80+ pounds.  We adopted Bob as a replacement dog, we know Gwen is getting up there and ours girls will be devasted.   They are also the best alarm systems money can buy :)  They did well on our last trip but I'll be short an adult for our Christmas trip and our neighbors will be happy to let them out during the day if I chose to leave them behind.  I'm thinking of bringing one, leaning towards Bob since he is more agreeable.  I would also like to start traveling more and would love some tips and getting him used to the RV life.

  5. LOL!

I think it's funny how Wilderness Lodge now shares with the Grand Floridian.  That makes no sense.  But, I guess it keeps the deluxe guests from having to share with a bunch of scummy campers.

    TCD

I kind of got that vibe from a few Wilderness guests we shared some chats with on the bus.  It was kind of like, "Oh, you're at the campsite, hows THAT?"   I got annoyed with this one gal and went into how I never have to worry about bedbugs because we have our beds with us.

  6. Welcome!!

    Welcome!!

I am not really familiar with those units specifically, but I have a Keystone Outback which I have been very pleased with.  I'd suggest shopping several dealers and trying to hit an RV show.  Once you find units you are interested in buying, DO NOT buy until you thoroughly research prices online....there is a LOT of negotiating room in RV MSRP pricing....like anywhere from 20-40% depending on model year, floorplan, etc.  Figure 25-30% on average.  And like when buying cars, don't let them nickle and dime you with excessive pricing on hitches, brake controllers, etc.  If you husband is a mechanic there are some things he can do himself to save $.

Also read up on weights and the capacities of your Suburban.  Pay particular attention to payload capacity....that is where people sometimes trip up by focusing solely on a vehicles tow limits.  Factor all your cargo, passenger weights, pets, etc.  If you get to the point of having specific questions on that post them here.

Don't be intimidated about buying used.  There are specific things to watch for, such as water damage, but you can save a ton of money that way.  If you get comfortable with the components of an RV, it is possible to spend time going over a used unit and making sure it is ok.

    Good luck!

We are on our third trailer in 4 years.  First was too small once we started having babies, second was a lemon and our third one just arrived this Monday!  We had an older Surburban(99) and the dealers kept trying to push us to bigger TT's, be careful and know your vehicle!  We have a 2500 HD now but still downsized to a 20 ft, its all we really need.  We used to be tent campers so we are minimalist at heart.  Everyone here is great and so helpful!  Good luck shopping!

  7. Our first trip with our 30ft trailer was from southern coastal NC to middle Illinois, hubs did all the driving and we took our time.  We had a 6 month old and a 2 year old so we went as far as they would let us each day.  I'll be driving solo with the kids down to Fl with a 20 ft trailer, I plan on taking two maybe three days since we will be hitting the tail end of Turkey day.

  8. You are correct about mid morning.  We've been trying to get a partial hookup for this weekend since Sunday and haven't had any luck.  Even Jason was unable to find anything.  Well this morning about 10:15 I checked availability and was able to get Friday and Saturday night!  Thanks for the suggestion.  Do you have any pull with the weather Gods?  Hope it dries up and doesn't rain.  We've been getting soaked down here this summer.

Awesome!  Glad it worked, I'll put a word in to my weather guys for you, no promises 8)

  9. Love all the advice! We are some what new to RVing and were forced to trade in this past weekend. We lost the axle on the way back from Disney last month, last straw for a 14 month old TT who was in the shop most of the time. It's smaller and more appealing in comparison to our previous 30 fter, it's 20 w/o a pop out. I've never towed anything but I'm a good driver and we have a 2500hd that should make it easy. I practiced lining up to the hitch after combining home from the store and I was surprisingly accurate on the first go. I taught myself to drive my husbands manual Jeep on the first deployment, the second I learned to sew, 3& 4th deployment had two under two and this one I'm going to learn how to solo with the RV. I'm already a Fort addict, I'm a lost cause. I dont think i could stay anywhere else, i had a mod ressie and was so excited that we were going to be able to change it back to the fort! I was able to add on to our December trip today for a total of 12 nights. A spring trip has already been talked about. How do I get a sign? Any good campsites to reccomend on 95?

  10. We just came back from the Fort a few weeks ago (our 1st family WDW trip) and I booked for Christmas while there.  Its just going to be me and my girls (4, 2).  I've already been told I 'm crazy by the extended family but I never listen to them regardlessly :raspberry: Any suggestions for travel and our stay?  I've not taken the RV out without hubs before but plan on some weekend trips between now and then just to get the hang of it.  I started to look at spring dates this morning too, I think I love the Fort!
