  1. It's not just the campsites, it's EVERYTHING. The hotels, the tickets, the food, the merchandise...I have reached my limit. I have my pass for this year. IF I go back down, I will stay off-site, eat off-site and drink off-site. I will purchase NO souvenirs, t-shirts etc. When this AP expires, I'm done.

Ok, I have had a really, crappy day. I believe I mean this anyway though. Their greed for profit has surpassed the magic for me.

I see where you are coming from, I get it.  But prices will always go up and compared to other places I feel like I get more bang for your buck at Disney. Disney is about quality the majority of the time and they are still trying to turn a profit.   There is always a CM around, they are everywhere!  There are so many things that go into Disney that you don't see.  Security, you can spot the plain closed people if you know what to look for and they are not cheap.  But from what I noticed there are quite a few.  I also think they try to make themselves accessible to the majority of the people.  You can get a room for $100 bucks a night on resort property, thats the going rate for most hotel rooms with out the themes and Disney pizazz.  Tickets are expensive but the same as any other theme park and most of those aren't even in the same league as Disney.  Its understandable to be angry at the price jumps its always happening.  Heck, if I got mad at all the prices going up I'd never drive, wear clothes or eat.  I'm only 34 and prices are ridiculous compared to things 20 years ago.  I'm now starting to sound like my grandpa who always talks about the good ol days when "he remembers paying a nickel for a Coke"  He was also only making 35 cents and hour.

  2. Depends what type of tent you have.  You can have a tent at any site, and a tent plus a trailer will be no problem however... if you need to stake your tent down, that can be very tough at a premium site because it's all paved (no sand/dirt)...or so at least from what I've seen.  You can find a few with yard space and I've seen tents there.  Preferred sites have some sand.

    Have a great time!! :studsmatta-smiley:

Great point!  I'd forgotten about that.

  3. Kelly, I saw your site when I looked back. I guess you'll have to look over my lack of attention to detail! :) It does look like a really nice campground. How far is it from there to the beach? Can you golf cart to the beach?

Nope, you reminded me and I added it!  You have to drive a vehicle to the beach, its all main roads mostly at 55 mph.  20 minutes tops to the free parking at Cherry Grove which is in the North Myrtle area.

  4. I've heard great things about this campground.  Have a friend who visits there several times a year, and she raves about it.  We've never been there b/c I can't stand to be so close to the ocean and not being able to see it out my window.  Or going to sleep and not being able to hear the waves crashing.

If you're not a beach person (I think I remember DIT saying he hates sand), then this is definitely a campground to check out!

I think it will work great for our family, my husband isn't a beach person and I "grew up" at the beach.  Best of both worlds!

  5. Great job on this report!

I like your trailer.  I saw one like this at the Fort on my last visit, and at that point I was not aware that someone is again manufacturing trailers with the Coleman name.

I appreciated your comment about seeing the stars.  Sadly, Fort Wilderness is a terrible place to try to stargaze.  There is so much light pollution around there that even if you find a dark place in the campground, you can barely see any stars.

Thanks! One of the reasons we bought our house was because of the stars.  Now its slowly getting brighter, guess we'll have to move further away.  Apparently the Colemans are bits and pieces of a few companies.  Thor, Dutchmen, and some others.  We like it, it does the job and is simple.  Can't wait to finish peeling off the decals, I hate being a billboard.

  6. Hows the regulating of tents going?  I remember reading about how it may or has been implemented that it is no longer allowed.  For our upcoming trip we have our trailer but I was thinking of bringing our tent down so the girls can get a taste of sleeping in a tent.  I'm also swinging by and bringing my 80+ grandmother down to visit her sister just outside of  Orlando and she "may "want to stay a night at the Fort with us.  We could all sleep in the trailer but I need more space than that when dealing with family I didn't choose or birth.

  7. If you're looking for a quiet Myrtle Beach getaway believe it or not, there is such a thing!  Willowtree Campground is in Longs, SC and it's about 15 minutes from the beach driving.  This was our first trip so I decided to go for an easier campground that had good reviews.  Willowtree lived up to all the 5 star reviews!  Its very clean, people are friendly and its has great amenities.  My favorite thing wasn't even listed on the website, the stars were amazing!  They were so bright, you could see clusters of stars, it looked like pixie dust in the sky!  Just a note, be careful with GPS directions, it can send you to the campgrounds neighbor down the road and by the anti camper sign in his road, I wasn't the first to come his way.

There is a long drive from the road

They have a nice trail all the way around the lake which by the way is 34 acres

The sites were larger than anywhere we have stayed in the past.

  8. We made it back home!!! Seriously the best trip ever!  I feel great and everything went smoothly.  I have some pictures for my first trip report that I'll post once the mini monsters pass out.  Thanks to all of you for giving me the advice and support to accomplish everything!  I am so blessed to have stumbled upon such a remarkable group of people!  I try to learn a new skill every time my husband deploys, he was giving me a hard time over Skype this evening because it only took me a month into this deployment to conquer this one!  I'l just have to fine tune it by taking multiple trips between now and the time he gets back!  Practice makes perfect!!!!

  9. I worked at a resort for a few years, nothing like Disney but still a large venue.  There will always be open sites/room even if the resort claims that they are booked to capacity.  Say you have a reservation for 10 days, get to the site and the electric box got hit by lighting the next night.  Disney being Disney is going to have another site open for you, it's part of thier customer service.  It does seem like they like to be on the far end of the spectrum with how many sites we see open when it's supposed to be full.  I also think the reasoning behind why they make their computer systems so crazy is to compensate for the obvious human error of the CMs at the Fort.
