Disney has announced it is to bring Frozen back for a special one-off short adventure called Frozen Fever.

It will feature Anna, Elsa, Kristoff and Olaf the snowman and will see Elsa's icy powers threaten to overshadow Anna's birthday party.

Oscar-winning animation Frozen is now the biggest animated feature of all time, having taken nearly $1.3 billion (£790m) at the worldwide box office.

Frozen Fever will air next Spring, according to Variety.

The news was revealed during TV special The Story of Frozen: Making an Animated Classic, which aired on ABC in the US on 2 September.

The behind-the-scenes show also gave fans a preview of how Frozen characters Anna, Elsa and Kristoff will appear in a forthcoming episode of ABC's live action hit Once Upon a Time.

The new animated short will feature a new original song by Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, who won an Academy Award for Let It Go.

Both Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck will return to direct it, although it's not yet known exactly how Frozen fans will get to see it.

Meanwhile two more shorts have been announced by Disney. Pixar's Lava will feature a Hawaiian volcano who sings Somewhere Over the Rainbow and will be played ahead of Inside Out, which is due in cinemas early next summer.

A Boston terrier puppy called Winston, who shares meals under the table with his owner, is the star of Feast and will be seen alongside Big Hero 6, due later this year.

I caught the end of the ABC Frozen special last night.  I had gotten a text from one of my daughters requesting that I DVR it, but I didn't see the text until it was half over.

I wish I had seen the whole thing. It was really well done, including interviews with John Lasseter and the husband and wife team who wrote That Song.  It was interesting to hear how the character of Elsa and the story evolved.

John Lasseter himself made the announcement about the new short.

They also introduced the new film Big Hero Six.  I had heard about it, but it sounded kind of dumb.  Now that I've heard John Lasseter explain it, and seen a preview, I am willing to give it a try.

I didn't know that John Lasseter was so involved in non-Pixar films.

Here's something else I didn't know. The voice of the character Oaken in Frozen is provided by the man who directed Big Hero Six.

If anyone has any info on the show being rebroadcast, please let me know- I'd like to record the whole thing.

John Lasseter is huge at Disney and also has a huge title. He's "Chief Creative Officer of Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios and Principal Creative Advisor, Walt Disney Imagineering".

He's involved with just about anything that is creative, and that's a lot.

He's only one of less than twenty people that report to the big guy.

Not bad for a guy that was fired by Disney 30 years earlier.

I really don't know much about the guy.  But, I was very much impressed with the things he said, and how he said them, as he spoke during the Frozen special.

He came across very sincere and genuine.

He does come across that way.

Because CGI was a such a big part of both our careers, his being entertainment, mine being engineering, I've followed his career from the beginning.

He's the only big dog at Disney that I would look forward to meeting.
