typin56mom 0
We are going to The Fort for Family vacation the first of June. We live in Dallas and looking for recommendations regarding where to stay. We will be going east across I-10 from Houston as we will be meting some family there. I would love to hear recommendations or any input. Thanks
LONE-STAR 370
Motel or campground?
Specularius 102
Depending on the time of day you are starting out and how well you travel...towing or not...frequent stops or not... 8 to 8 1/2 hours out is the Milton Gulf Pines KOA that is an easy over night spot.If you are starting out at Dallas, then the Lakeside RV Park at Livingston, LA is a good over night at about the 8th hour of driving. This might would require another stop before making it to the Fort though.
typin56mom 0
Sorry I should have been more clear...we will be traveling with 43 foot 5th wheel toy hauler so will need several campground recommendations.
ependydad...Doug 176
In the Houston area, we (42' fifth wheel) stayed a couple of days at Rayford Crossing. It was pretty pretty. https://flickr.com/photos/7200488@N08/sets/72157661516141553 It might be a little ways off of the highway, but we were visiting friends in Spring. We didn't stay in Dallas, but did stay off of I-10 pretty much the whole way from San Diego to Lake City, FL.

Okieatheart 33
I live in Houston and there are several RV parks - in or near the city. Depending on where you are meeting your friends, there is a really nice RV park at the corner of 288 and Beltway 8 (Sam Houston Tollway). We take the tollway to I-10 when leaving for Florida. (I think the Dallas tollway pass is reciprocal with Houston. I know we can use our pass in Dallas.) There is another RV park south on I-45 near Clear Lake. There is a Cracker Barrel very near. I've stayed at Rayford Crossing and would certainly recommend it, also. That's the only one I'm familiar with in north Houston. Going east, we've stayed at the KOA in Baton Rouge (really it's Denham Springs, but is listed as Baton Rouge.) We stay at Avalon RV Park in Milton, FL, and a really lovely Rv park in Williston, FL. We've also spent the night at Mazalea RV park in Biloxi (right off the freeway) and Hollywood Casino in Bay St. Louis, MS. All of these are pretty decent parks with either concrete or blacktop pads. Specularius 102
If you get caught running late at night and do not mind boon docking in a rest area, the Stennis Space Center rest area at exit 2 in Mississippi has some really great turn outs for RV's to park at complete with a picnic table. They are located away from the commercial truck parking, though all the traffic exits past you to leave the rest area.

Not one empty space. We drove another 2 hours and slept at a Walmart.

Cortezcapt (Derek) 156
When we went through last April there was only one or 2 rvs in there. It was a Friday night I think, not sure if that or the time of year made a difference. It was Easter weekend. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
