BradyBzLyn...Mo 2,023 Posted January 17, 2012 Report Share Posted January 17, 2012 Due to the special, "Rock the Night Spectacular" event this Thursday at Hollywood Studios, CMs were made aware of information egarding updated operating information for this week.Also that updated guest collateral will be delivered to operational areas beginning Tuesday evening. A in-room letter is being placed in occupied Disney Resort Guest rooms starting Tuesday morning.The CM website is being updated to reflect the info regarding any changes due to the event and Channel 19 on the in-room TVs will be updated daily to reflect these changes.From WDW News Today...The changes are for Thursday, January 19th and they are pretty significant. First off, Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be running a fireworks show since Fantasmic! is not currently performing. The show is being called “Rock the Night! Fireworks Spectacular” and will perform at 7PM that evening. Three parks are also offering Extra Magic Hours that day: Animal Kingdom from 8-9 AM, Epcot from 9PM-12AM, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios from 7-10PM.While we can not confirm it at this time, rumors are circulating of a special guest visiting the parks on that day. This news article may shed some light on the subject.What the heck is the "Rock the Night Spectacular"? As posted on the CM Hub (thanks Lou!)Guests will enjoy a backstage pass to the place "where showbiz is" and entertainment comes to life.They will salute the world of showbiz from the Hollywood classics of yesteryear to the best in popular entertainment. They will be able to take center stage as the star of their own adventure: from rock 'n' roll fantasy to Broadway style stage spectaculars, from the silver screen to the TV screen to behind the scenes.Special fireworks will be part of the event. The Epcot EMH will mean that at least one park will be open later. If anything, people will go to HS or Epcot.They normally reroute traffic to avoid the HS fireworks fallout and that's a mess for a couple of hours. Another reason for BO to stay away. We visited HS for an EMH back in November, and they had the Mulch, Sweat and Shears group up on the big stage in front of the hat blaring their music super loud. I mean you could hear it all over the park. PedersenThe Orlando Sentinel has confirmed with a White House aide that President Obama will be visiting the Walt Disney World resort on Thursday to make an announcement about travel and tourism.This explains the sudden change in park hours and the additional fireworks at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.For any park guests this will also mean road closures, extra security, and delays delays delays. Roads will be shut down for the motorcade and resort buses will go into delayed service to try and avoid the times when the President is traveling through the resort. Also travel between the resort and the Orlando International airport should see delays as well.In short, give yourself extra time to travel anywhere within the resort that day. Also, do not expect to park at any of the monorail resorts without a reservation – internal documents suggest the Contemporary Resort is the most likely candidate for where the President’s announcement will take place. Today it has been confirmed by the White House that President Obama will indeed would be visiting Walt Disney World on January 19, 2012 to discuss the economy and tourism, elaborating on his “We Can’t Wait” job-creating initiative.UPDATE: Obama’s speech will take place inside the Magic Kingdom theme park beginning at 12:35 p.m. using Cinderella Castle and Main Street USA as a backdrop. He will introduce a “strategy” to improve tourism and travel, including discussion of improving methods for obtaining travel visas for foreign visitors. Obama will be leaving Central Florida immediately afterward.Guests in attendance at the park will not be able to see the President or his speech, as Main Street USA will be closed and off-limits, without an official White House invitation, from prior to park opening through Obama’s departure. Backstage areas will be used to allow guests to access the rest of the park from the entrance area, bypassing Main Street. Guests who enter the Magic Kingdom via a single-day ticket and are unhappy with the situation surrounding Obama’s speech will be offered access to another of Walt Disney World’s three theme parks for that day only. Most dining and experience reservations will still be honored, but guests should be prepared to adjust their plans. The exceptions are park tours scheduled on Thursday and reservations at Tony’s Town Square are being cancelled.Disney has shifted its entertainment focus away from the Magic Kingdom theme park, adding Extra Magic Hours to its three other parks as well as a special fireworks show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios that night. Additional parade audience control (PAC) shifts have been added to the Magic Kingdom between 7am and 3pm as well to help guide guests around Main Street and answer questions throughout the park. The afternoon parade start time has been moved back to 3:30 p.m. Disney cast members / employees are unable to use their IDs to get access to the Magic Kingdom that day.Those visiting Walt Disney World on Thursday should be prepared for traffic and transportation delays associated with the President’s visit, particularly in the Magic Kingdom area.With regards to the effects the President’s visit will have on guests visiting Walt Disney World, a Disney spokesman told me, “There will be a great deal of security surrounding the visit as is customary with any presidential visit.
