The stretch of E Beuna Vista Drive, starting at the secondary entry/exit of Disney's Hollywood Studios and ending on Victory Way, is being widened to accommodate more traffic and ease congestion. E Buena Vista Drive is one of Walt Disney World's most traveled roads, linking Dowtown Disney, Disney's Hollywood Studios, Disney's Animal Kingdom, a multitude of resorts, and World Drive - which leads to the Magic Kingdom and Epcot. Adding even more traffic to this already busy road will be the almost 2000 room 'Disney's Art of Animation Resort' opening May 31 2012, which is located on Victory Way, just off of the road area being widened.Work is beginning now, and is expected to last a couple of months. I was on that stretch of road today and didn't see any signs that work had begun.That section of BVD already has three lanes. The only time it backs up is in the morning when cars can't get in to DHS. Unless they add more booths at DHS, the back ups will still occur whether it's 3 or 4 lanes. I must be missing something. LORNADUCK 261 Posted February 22, 2012 Report Share Posted February 22, 2012 When I was leaving the fort yesterday, there were signs that on 2/26 there would be major delays?? the way I go out is make a right out of the fort and take the road past the Poly, not sure of the name of the road. They will all take Osceola Parkway, just like Pop and some CBR buses do now. So it seems that would not be the excuse for widening the road.They also don't mention that the road widening is part of a bigger project involving DHS. The secondary entry that is used now on BVD will be used by buses and taxis only. Apparently a new DHS entry gate on Osceola Parkway is planned. There is also word of a second gate on Victory Way.It's not clear at the moment what the real reason is for adding another lane. Quote Link to post Share on other sites

As you can see from the photos below, the lane is marked out, and roughed in on some parts of the route. Interestingly, an area has also been cleared in the trees with an access road running directly form the Studios exit road to Victory Way, bypassing Buena Vista Blvd. It seems that Disney has some big plans for the Studios traffic flow, with speculation suggesting the secondary entry/exit on Buena Vista Blvd will eventually be used by Disney Transportation, and as an exit only for cars. As it's close to being completed, it's now apparent what's going on.The road widening is not really a road widening project, it's mainly a right turn only lane out of DHS that leads onto Victory Way.The main usage will be during DHS closing. Traffic going to PCR and AOAR, will use the new lane, but it won't have much effect during the rest of the day as BVD is only widened for that short stretch.I've never found that section to be backed up because of traffic waiting to make a right turn onto Victory Way during the day. mouseketab.....Carol 1 Quote Link to post Share on other sites
