  1. I thought one of the reasons behind the Disney purchase of Miramax in the 90's was to allow them to have a studio that they could use to make films that did not conform to the Disney expectations and were more adult in nature. I don't see why they wouldn't still be able to do that today as long as they made sure it wasn't under one of the Disney content divisions and made it clear that the content wasn't your typical Disney fare.

But (don't hate me) aren't a lot of sites empty Monday or Tuesday thru Thursday? Not a lot of incentive to build more sites.

I thought that's what our favorite bus driver had posted a few times.

I'm far from an expert and this is purely anecdotal but every time we've stayed at the Fort there are plenty of open sites during the week. From when we arrive on Sunday until we leave the following Saturday while the Fort isn't a ghost town it is low key and fairly quiet everyday except Friday.

  3. I read an ethics article on this a year or so ago. At that time the article stated we could wipe out entire species of pests through genetics but the questions were should we and at what costs. As mentioned bats are one species under pressure that eat mosquitoes but their larvae also support entire food chains for animals such as fish and amphibians. Let's say it works and we wipe out the mosquito that spreads Zika. Do we stop there after all it is only on species? Why not do the same for the Anopheles mosquito which carries malaria? The article left the answer open but my conclusion was we are better off not toying with things like this as it has been proven time and again once the genie is out of the bottle you can't put it back in.

  4. We weren't planning a trip this year as we were suppose to be in the Chicago area visiting Rene's folks. Up until the campgrounds closed that is. We had thought about heading to WDW next year but we're not sure yet if we will still be able to get a trip in to see Rene's parents this fall or have to wait for next year. It all depends upon what will be happening with the schools and whether the schedule and staffing levels will allow her to take a couple of weeks off. If things work put we'll try to get in a trip for F&W in 2021 otherwise it will be late winter 2022.

  5. We make taco tots, pizza tots and other variations at least once a month when I don't feel like cooking. For taco tots I just make up everything we would normally use for a taco bar.  For the pizza tots we build them in oven proof bowls so we can melt and brown the cheese under the broiler.

There was a mask I saw that has a small snap open cap just large enough to fit a straw thru.

    Beer through a straw?

You squeeze the lever and the middle of the mask goes up and down opening a gap to shove food in, then you let go of the lever and the gap closes.

That makes eating a hamburger or other two handed food a two person affair a so one can work the lever while the other shoves the food in. I think I'll take the risk of no mask when sitting down to eat.

Disney isn't the only one hurting

    Orlando International

On Tuesday, about 3,700 passengers departed from the airport. On the same date last year, 70,600 departed, according to numbers from the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority.

This must be the new news thing as we had an article today about RDU saying they usually serviced 40K passengers per day in April but that was the total for the full month due to the virus.

The problem with the face covering is it doesn't work well with their Instagram photos.

In this day and age this should not be an excuse. I'm sure there is an app somewhere out there to print the hidden portions of your face on the mask.

No problem!  Disney has already rolled out their supercute line of masks. Let the #DisneyFace hashtags commence...  😎

If it can be monetized you know Disney will find a way to do it.

That's been discussed on a lot of the local and national news broadcasts.

Places that were able to switch over to take out/delivery fairly successfully are wondering if it's worth going back to dine in if they can't fill the seats.

While they aren't making as much $$ on the take outs, their overheads have been less so they are almost doing as good as they did before the restrictions.

Of course there are still a lot of workers without jobs because they didn't need as large of a staff.

We've seen the similar results here with restaurants that have been able to switch to take out and/or delivery. We are at least a few weeks away from restaurants being able to seat people indoors or outdoors. Some restaurants are hoping that the governor will allow an interim outdoor only sooner. Whether that happens who knows.

I've always carried a paper towel or napkin (honestly, if I still had my grandmother's...I"d carry a hankey), this allows me to cover any sneezes or coughs, which is the concern with any aerosolized virus, it's not the act of breathing in and out.

As for the vaccine, everyone will get that choice.  I'll have a problem if it's mandated however....I will caution because even the "experts" are not sure on the efficacy of a vaccine.  Actually, they say it may make the virus worse:

    https://www.cnbc.com/2020/05/12/fauci-tells-congress-no-guarantee-the-coronavirus-vaccine-will-be-effective.html?fbclid=IwAR0ILT6sUEG9nZYLz3UzcEoK9-S-8TnF9ekg4U7oc6EfPHJUU2trUhu4rOU

Talking releases aerosols and yes so does breathing. While the size of the droplets and distance traveled can vary it doesn't change the fact that any activity involving the expulsion of air from the lungs will create aerosols.

There was a time that quarantines were quite common in this country and the rest of the world. I'm old enough to remember a time before vaccinations and seeing things like measles outbreaks handled by quarantines. I can even recall a childhood friend whose father was arrested for breaking quarantine and showing up at work. The main reason the use of wide spread shutdowns and quarantines are in place is because of the inability to identify those that are infected and the people they have been in contact with. Improving this ability would allow us to do like we have in the past and that is limit the use of quarantine to smaller groups who have contracted the disease or had contact with people who have the disease. We can't hang all of our hopes on an effective vaccine that might not ever arrive or that once a person has had the disease they have long term immunity. in concert with these efforts we  need to expend energy on controlling the spread with as little intrusion into life as possible. This means we have to be able to improve detection of asymptomatic people and have better contact tracing as without that nothing much will change.

    Paper towels.

I did like this comment from the Disney Parks Blog comments:

"I find it remarkable that the same people that will wear ridiculous ears, hats, costumes, robes etc in the Florida heat are takings issue with wearing a face covering."

Maybe y’all didn’t see it but it appears to have an airbag suspension. Which means it could be made to ride higher than in the pictures.
pump up the air bags and lift up the truck.

You're correct on the suspension. Like all low riders it has airbags to raise and lower it. Can you imagine the mess should the owner decided to start bouncing or raises the truck too fast?

  13. I understand investors and guests want to have hard dates for reopening but I think companies would be better off if they worked from Dr Fauci's statement that the virus is in charge and its progression will determine when facilities can reopen. I know that goes against the grain for most folks, me included, but I think it would be better than having to announce that the date will slip again. Now off to channel my inner hippie.

Finally signed up for Disney+ and starting bingeing Imagineering Story this weekend. LOVE it!

We signed up a week ago as well but cancelled it after I found out they won't support surround sound on the windows platform. The sad part is Disney has an app on Xbox that does support surround sound and it was written on the Universal Windows Platform which means it should run on Windows 10 with minimum or no change.

Since we have it until the middle of April we have watched a few things. I am impressed with what Disney has done The Mandalorian. Like Rogue One it is much better than their attempts with the Star Wars movie series. If they keep it up the series would be worth coming back to for a month's subscription fee.

Actually Easter is HUGE at the Tokyo Parks. They do way more there than at the US parks. The TCD twins were in Tokyo last year at this time and were floored by the decorations and Easter parade.

    TCD

Japan has embraced the secular side of a number of US holidays frequently adding their own homegrown twist as well.
