  1. Also for the 600 loop, if you are assigned on the left side of the loop, you will get direct morning though afternoon sun that will shine through that large windshield and really heat up the camper. We were assigned to that side of the loop a couple of years ago, and it was all the AC's could do to keep up. I had to keep the front curtains closed for most of the day to keep the heat down.... They don't call that Loop Sunny Sage Way for nothing!

  2. There are a lot of things that can lead to a bounce.

    1. Are you loaded or unloaded?  Mine always rides better with some weight.  We always have some fresh water on hand just to give the trailer some weight as we tend to roll pretty light anyways.
    2. Tension on the spring bars, depending on your setup.
    3. Tires, type and inflation.  After switching to E rated LT tires I noticed less bounce and I don't even run them at high pressure, just more than the stock P rated tires we replaced.

I've found that hitch adjustment, air pressure and loading have a pretty noticeable impact on tow quality

I have another adjustment I will be making to my Equalizer before this weekends trip, hopefully to add more tension and level the trailer a bit more.  After this trip I'll be installing a Hensley Cub.  It will either be a huge waste of time and money or the most awesome thing since sliced bread.  I'll add my opinion to the slew of them out there when it's all done :rofl3:

From what I have read about folks going to  the Hensley no one has ever bees disappointed, just takes getting used to it. I used to tow a tt with a Suburban and the Pullrite swivel hitch, that's another good hitch set up but really different but also great once you got used to it, no sway and push when large trucks would pass you.

One motorhome and one 5'er ago, we pulled a 30" TT and used the Hensley Arrow.  This was the original version as the Cub had not come out yet  I have to say from personal experience that it was the best money that I spent and it offered the best towing experience.  When we bought the trailer we had the standard weight distributing hitch with the friction sway control.  I had it set up as best as possible, but when I switched over to the Hensley, it was like night and day.... The biggest things that I noticed what that the "sucking" feel that I got just as I passed a tractor trailer was eliminated all together with the Hensley.

The hook-up process will take a little getting used to, but once you find what works best for you, it will be a snap to connect and out on the road...

  3. We hung around for a while, then it was time for the DIT gang to load into the van and head to Wally World.  This always excites my kids, as they love visiting foreign Walmarts.  Plus, we had an encounter with some celebrities.  But I'll wait to discuss that until the rest of the Fiends update with their Saturday morning pics.

Before we can pronounce any Miller camping trip a success, we have to make sure that we have made at least one trip to a foreign Walmart in the vicinity of camping area....  The "mountainous" Wal-Marts in NC are especially entertaining as I think someone along the way has tampered with the gene pool....  Wait, did I just heat banjo music?

Back at site 114, I got ready to whip up a big breakfast.  My site had a tree in a perfect location for my Tree Hugger.  Look, I have everything I need handy.  Even my Snow White SpankulaTM:

If you examine that photo more carefully, you will also see my genuine TCD Horse Barn horseshoeTM, and the TCD hammockTM, and the TCD waterjugTM.  It is good to be TCD.

I got busy making breakfast, and when it was ready, I woke up the twins.  We enjoyed a great meal at the picnic table, and discussed the logistics of our day.

Whoa, whoa, whoa there Tex.....   I know your name is Andrew, but Tex sounded better....  Anyway, how can you give us all of these great details and completely skip over what you cooked with that awesome chuckwagon cook set....

  5.

The campground had created a group for us to add our reservations to, and had blocked off some great sites all together (normally you make a reservation just for a type of site then select when you arrive).  We got to pick from that block of sites, and before long I had this in my hand.

Hmmm looks very "Buffalo-ish" or Northwestern NY to me....  Am I right?

  6. We use Gilbert RV Insurance... They are an insurance broker, and only broker insurance specifically for RV's. We used to use State Farm to cover our RV's, but switched after speaking to one of our friends who works for State Farm. She said its better to go with someone who specializes in RV coverage.

We have full replacement coverage, with diminishing deductables... every year we go without a claim, the deductable decreases $100 per year... So far so good.

  7. Thanks TCD.  I'll take a look at the link.

Judy, you might want to check out the food court over at Port Orleans Riverside. They have a soup and sandwich station between the "meat and veggie" station and the "made to order" salad station. They usually have a couple of soup selections that seem to change daily... Its close to the Fort and offers several options for others in your party that may want something else...

  8. Like everyone else has said... "RV" camping is great, especially with a little one...  We started out in the natural progression of the RV'r...  Tent, then 2 pop-ups, a travel trailer, a 5th wheel, now a motorhome. I can remember moving the table out of the way in our first pop-up to make room for Ashleigh's portable crib.  We had a high chair that clamped to the table, and bathed her in a baby tub on the table we had to move out of the way...  That same little one, is now getting ready to graduate high school and go off to college.  She still loves and wants to camping.

I travel a lot for work, and I'm sure you already know how "clean" or unclean those hotel rooms are these days... I know who has cleaned my camper and who has slept in the bed... I would much rather use "my stuff" than someone else's...

Find yourself a slightly used pop-up... there are a ton of them out there... What you will find is that someone bought one, tried it a couple of times and decided the camping thing is not for them, or someone has decided to move up to the next step to a trailer.  You said that you enjoyed tent camping, then a pop-up is the next best thing... I used to call it "luxury tent camping"

As for the Tampa show, I was just there this afternoon... like someone said, there were not a lot of pop-ups out there, there were a bunch of A-Liners, but mostly motorhomes, and 5th wheels... For someone just beginning to look, that show is almost too overwhelming... One tends to get sucked up in the wow factor and not how the unit is built... I can't tell you how many conversations I heard between sales folks and potential customers on how great the products are... And some pretty good tall tales on these things are so much better now...  Yeah right.

Anyway, take your time, find that gem out there, and jump in...
