I read somewhere that the one from Tampa was already sold.

I figured it had.  I was looking at the company website. I could get a custom one not much more than that one in Tampa, plus I could get it shipped.  Left the page open on my laptop, since Mr. CJH uses it every morning. Alas, he didn't mention it or ask why I was looking.

Right now we have 2 sites, Jen's popup and Gretchen's hybrid, with the possibility of Carole's tent behind one of the campers, so if you do bring a tent, there's room.

Coolio. Of course I would chip in for the site.

PS - I am currently trying to figure out how I can talk Mr. CJH into one of those little Runaway campers for when I want to get away on my own. ;)

  3. So, I guess I could go reread this whole thread, but I thought it might be easier to ask. How many sites do y'all have and do they all already have a tent spoken for on them?  Having a hard time justifying $101/night for a tent if I can't find someone else to go with me.

Yet the site that won the decorating contest was way over the halfway to the next site as well as blocked the garbage cans and recycling bins (can't remember if they turned their lights off or not but I don't think so).

When we checked in this year the Monday before Christmas we did not get anything nor were told that's lights/decorations had to be turned off and there were very few people following that rule this year.

I think we were the only ones on loop 500 this year that turned our lights off at 10, so I actually started leaving them on towards the end.  But it was Inflatables Row, so I could see those people not wanting them deflating in every which direction.

And like you, we didn't get anything at check-in about decorating rules. I had just read them online.

  5. Ugh! My friend says her kids would kill her if she goes without them since they haven't been since 2005, and she has 2 other trips planned in the month before.

Of course when I brought it up again with my husband he says, "how do you know those aren't a bunch of psycho men trying to lure you down there?"  That's what I was expecting the first time. He must not have been listening then. I assured him I think you all have done this trip several years, but of course that's just what you want people to think, right?

  6. Okay, I'm working on this. Trying to talk a friend into it. She goes out of town all the time, so shouldn't be a big deal for her. If she doesn't want to bring her camper, I may just bring our tent.  Of course I have not checked site availability, which could be nil. What kind do y'all have?

Looks like they have all but tent/popup.

Weird... It just takes me down to $353 a night. Do they give you a better deal because you live in NC?

That's what I got too, and I live in NC, so why do they love keith h?

I just checked for mid-week in Nov (which is the times we went) and it is cheaper for sure, so I guess with discounts that is why I didn't know. I don't remember how we initially got on their email list. It may have been after staying there. But they would send out emails every so often with sales, and that's when my friends & I would book.

Have you tried calling them to see if that's the best they can do that weekend? Hotels will go lower if they're trying to fill the rooms.

I don't know if it was just when I priced it, but I've looked at the one in NC for a weekend trip a few times, and it was around $250 a night.

Most people I know who have gone to one use it as a mini vacation (1-2 nights) and don't leave the property.

    That's what makes me surprised.

I know I have never paid that much, but I definitely got a good deal when I knew the Asst GM.  Also, they have "sales" certain times of the year that we would get emails or mailers for.

I remember the food was pretty expensive, so we (and friends) would just drive out and bring fast food back.

My kids are too old now for it.

But yeah, I'm not sure how it will do in Orlando.

  9. We have a GWL about 10 min from our house. We have stayed there a few times over Election Day or Veteran's Day.  Have not ever been in the summer, but 2 things that come to mind about indoor vs. outdoor in summer (yes, at least one has been mentioned): sunscreen & no blazing hot concrete or pavement to walk on.

I used to know the GM or asst GM here, but he moved on to the Kansas City one.  I do know from him that there are different size GWLs.  Not sure how the Orlando one will compare in size to the Concord one, but it is small compared to BB or TL, so not sure how it would compete.  The room theming is nice.

  10. Hmm, I broached the subject with Mr. CJH last night. He didn't seem as weirded out as I thought he would be. He just said, "how would you get there and where would you stay?"

If only I could get that adorable tiny camper for sale in Tampa!

  11. We live too far away to just pop in, so any time we're coming has to be over a school break which = busy which = I have to book way in advance.

We stayed 11 days, I think, over Christmas, and it was still very relaxing, even with the occasional clown car horn from a golf cart on our loop, and the 2-night party (which I think was the same people.) Maybe we were just lucky.

  12. Yeah.. our Casper felt hard when we first got it, but we called Casper on this (their customer service really is amazing) and they sent us a free topper; that made all the difference for us.  I still find the bed firm, but not that "hurt you" firm

Yeah, after reading more I feel like it may be similar to what we already have going on.

  13. Thanks for the tip. I can sleep on anything, but my husband has issues.

We tried Sleep Number and he didn't like it. We currently have a Tempurpedic. We tried them in the store and I really liked the Cloud model. I let him pick though, and he picked a harder one and the one we got is really hard. Apparently, they are softer in the stores due to people trying them.   They have a 30 day return period, but he was sure it would still soften after that (they told us as much).  Now like 4 years later, he is still complaining and has said he's getting something else.

We have a gel topper on it that we originally bought for the MH. I think the Tempurpedic and the gel topper respond to heat; our bedroom, being over the garage is cold, so it's literally like lying down on the floor when you first get on, then once it warms up where you are, you sink into a hole. And oddly enough, he loves sleeping in the MH on the mattress that came in it.

So, I will have him check this out.

Man, why am I so wordy all the time?

  14. We drove to a few parks over Christmas. Sometimes we just got waved through when they saw the MB. Sometimes they scanned the MB. The MK gate asked where we were going and we showed the FW pass. I assume they needed to know for a MK lot count.

The HS guy scanned the MB and then asked something or made a remark about being annual pass holders, which we are not, so we didn't know what he was talking about.

  15. I'm probably a long, long shot.  Not sure I could talk my husband into "letting me".  Though I did tell my family over Christmas that they were lame when it comes to amusement parks and I would just start going by myself.  Alas, I manage my son's soccer team and he has a game that weekend.

  16. You might want to ask your question on the Forest River forums. They have lots of folks who have been through just about anything that can happen to a MH or trailer. You might also try calling Forest River to see if they have any mobile repairmen qualified for warranty work in your area. They are frequently easier to get timely work scheduled than the brick and mortar RV dealers.

The forum can be found here:  http://www.forestriverforums.com/forums/

    This is brilliant.
