Great Polynesian pics. Were you all staying there? Just wondering since there were pictures of the room.
It's so great you have these great memories from your childhood. How often would you go?
These are our friends picks who we stayed with at WDW a few times. These are their pics. Our Poly pics are earlier in this report.
We went every couple years.
I am glad you are reading along and enjoying it!

I remember riding in the front of the monorail with our kids ... the cool topiaries ... breakfast at Minnie Mineheune's in the Polynesian. Anyone remember that?
I remember it all. In fact, I think there are Minnie's Minneheune pics earlier in this report.

Wow, everything old really is new again!
Seems so strange to see all the kids playing in the water at the beach.
I have great memories playing on the beach at the Fort.

Here I am missing my teeth:
I certainly hope none of the people who were swimming at the Poly Beach contracted any strange brain eating diseases from the Amoeba, Paramecium, or Euglena. That would suck.

Topiaries everywhere!
Kids riding in front of the monorail!
Funky 70's Contemporary Resort and Hotel décor!
Great stuff!

I was wondering if anyone would comment on the front monorail passengers.
Agreed!! I don't know why, but the topiaries are one of the most vivid memories I have from our very first trip in 1979.
Me too. I loved seeing those things out the monorail windows. Do you remember when the CMs had to walk down the line and physically close all the monorail doors?
Speaking of the 70s....I had a funny conversation with my parents yesterday. My Dad was insisting that we took our first WDW vacation in the 60s. My Mom was arguing that was impossible because I want born until 1968 and she remembers me riding Space Mountain. They went back and forth and were not swayed at all by my statements that none of that mattered since WDW didn't open until 1971 and SM until 1975 or so.
I swear my parents could have been Seinfeld characters.
That would have been funny to have on video for posterity.
These are wonderful memories - I loved the Skyway but I don't remember those elephant topiaries? Wish they'd bring some of them back
Thanks LB. I wish they would bring them back as well.

Hand delivered spikes and booze pops?
That, my friend, is why they call you a rock star.
-
Aaron, how have you missed the booze pops? They replaced the beet pops. And apparently are delicious.
I am not sure. Maybe I blocked it out since I can't have them?
-
Vintage MSEP pics! I hate that parade, but even I think those old pics are cool.
Do you have any vintage MSB Cinnamon Roll pics? There's nothing like some vintage glaze.
No vintage glaze. Alas.
-
Love the new topiaries.
The burnt ends looked good.
Booze pops?
I don't remember those from your prior reporting.
Do they have a Cold Snap beer one?
-
In this next group of updates, we will check out the monorail resorts as well as a few others.
In the first group of photos, you will see more pics of the topiaries that I mentioned long ago when this report was started. I remember riding the monorail and loving these when I was a wee laddie.
That is all for now.............next up, we head to old school Poly!

Back then, the restaurant was most likely called King Stefans Banquet Hall..... It least it was in the late 90's.
The change in name didn't occur till sometime after 2000
I remembered that too Carol. I even told our kids that when we went to CRT a couple trips ago.
You're bringing back such fond memories!
How cool would it be if Mickey's car were turned into a golf cart?
That would be cool. I wonder where that car ended up?
Love the old photos and someone had a great idea to capture a lot of the park in their photos back then.
Both this photgrapher and my dad took a lot of pics of the sights. That's good for us!

There are a lot of strange things afoot.
Next thing you're going to tell me you went into Satan's coffee shop when you got to MK.
I don't know if i can take this.
Where is Bill and Ted's phone booth when you need it?
I need to go back in time and have some MSB cinnamon roll comfort food.

Here it goes for Michigan places. Based on the school aspect, I will give you two places, one in each peninsula.
Lower Peninsula Dearborn, MI (Detroit suburb) The Henry Ford Museum
Upper Peninsula Mackinaw Island (located in the Straits of Mackinaw where the Mackinaw Bridge connects the two peninsulas)
Lake Michigan is located on the west side of the bridge, Lake Huron to the East
You could stay at Mackinaw Mill Creek Campground in Mackinaw City.....the island is a ferry ride away.
Sounds like a great trip and trip report!

Yes. And that stage raised and lowered from underground. That was a cool feature back in the day.

There you go!

Awesome! Love the 20k pics. Looking forward to Skyway.
Should be coming up soon!
I agree with GDF's observation that it's a rare thing to see so many photos of buildings and attractions instead of family snapshots. Whoever took these photos wasn't the typical tourist taking family photos.
There sure are a lot of castle photos! It's interesting to see the old hub and Rose Garden, and all of the nice landscaping. That's all been ripped up and paved over (or covered with fake grass) now.
I think they failed by not including Mickey and Minnie's houses in the New Fantasyland area. My kids always loved to visit those houses.
TCD
I think the hub and rose garden area was much nicer back then. The trees look good there. I assume they got rid of them for better sight lines for fireworks but the old look was better.
Was Fantasy Faire the place that was just to the right of Pinocchio Village Haus?
It was back in that general area, not sure the exact location. I think I asked my dad and the photographer that question when I posted the first pics of Fantasy Faire much earlier in this report and they gave me a general location. I would have to go back through and see.
