Absolutely, she's an avid animal lover.
She's eagerly awaiting her arrival creating cozy hiding spots throughout the house and buying toys for her. She actually bought a bunch for her when she visited us, just because.

Within the last two years, my SIL's very old little dog and cat passed away, so she's more than ready for Luna to make her smile, and she'll certainly do that.

Luna's flight on the 22nd has been booked and we have Buddy's very comfortable under-seat carrier ready for her.

As you and I went through the same thing a few years ago, you know that I'll be sad giving her up, but just like in our case, it's the best for everyone involved. And I still have Mama-cat who makes me smile every morning.

Glad Luna will be heading to her forever home soon. I know you will miss her, but I'm sure she'll be loved by your SIL.

    Luna gets her real home.
My SIL, who is animal lover, just visited us for a couple of weeks. I knew that when they met, Luna would steal her heart, and she did.
In a few weeks Gail will head to Maine to spend Thanksgiving with her family and so will Luna.
I'll get to enjoy her for another month, and then I will miss her.
If you've read how I ended up with her, you know that we've gone through a lot together, but it was my intention all along to find her a home.
Although she's had a great home here, she'll have an even better home in Maine. She'll be the center of attention as she'll be the only pet.
I have no doubt that my SIL will treat Luna like the princess she is.

The tiny 1.2 lb kitten that was stuck in the wheel well of a neighbors car and then taken to the shelter for adoption. But because they had so many, would be put down immediately and so was brought home, has turned into quite the beauty. Look at that face.

Luna is almost full grown. What a character she is. She thinks she's a dog and acts like one of our Silky terriers.

The method I used to catch Mamacat was to put out a pet carrier with food and catnip at the end. When it's inside close the door. They won't be happy though.
Some animal services locations will loan out humane traps that pretty much do the same thing.

As for befriending a feral cat, it depends on the cat. Some won't let you get within 20 feet, and others will allow you to pat them.
I've seen Mamacat every day for 4 or 5 years and she will allow me to pat her, but only one pat, more than that and she backs away.

You don't have to miss us, we're always here.

    That's all she's known.

I think it's our responsibility to be humane to animals, furry and otherwise.

Wish I could take credit for it, but one of our daughters came up with it.

    Yup

Not just cats. Gail has brought home, homeless kids, homeless adults, cats, dogs, and we've saved numerous turtles, opossum, armadillos, you name it. If it can be saved, we do it.

That's not the first and certainly not the last time I'll hear that.

Gail gets full credit because she's the one that insisted we save Luna, not me. I did agree though.

The last thing I wanted was another animal, but we just couldn't let her die.
She'll spend most of her time outdoors and we'll be doing what we do for Mamacat, give her food and water every day and keep an eye on her. So it's not a big deal.

On my last post 3 days ago, all was fine, but things took a very sad turn. She got loose.

We had her in a fenced in area so that if we have to set her free, which more than likely is what we'll end up doing, she would be acclimated to being outside. While we were playing with her, she took off like a rocket, got by Gail, and she was gone. She ran into the very thick bushes, probably climbed the fence, and we couldn't find her.

We searched the neighborhood on foot and by car for two days, but nothing. I would check the backyard in the morning just in case she somehow found her way back, but nothing.

On the 3rd morning after she ran away, while I was looking around the backyard, I saw something move in the bushes. It was a tiny kitten meowing. It was her. I lured her with food, she was so hungry. I doubt she had any food or water since she ran away. While she ate, I grabbed her.

So she is back in her private room, eating, drinking, and starting to play again.

The next step will be in a couple of weeks when I take her to get her fixed. After that, we'll let her recover in the house, then it's the pool and deck area, which believe me, is not a bad place to live.
We'll keep her there until we feel she is old enough to be released.

And just like Mama Cat, shell have a good life living outside our house and the two houses next to us. She'll have her freedom, plenty of food and water, and as long as she stays nearby and stays off the road, she'll be safe.

Wow, Lou I'm humbled with the offer...

Let me talk it over with Ken... I really wasn't thinking this would be possible. Just wishful thinking. ya know what I mean?   Kind of a sweet daydream. not reality.

I feel for my older cat, Misty who's 8 yrs old and I'm afraid she wouldn't like a new addition....   Even after almost an entire year, she hadn't warmed up to Louie.

Anyway, keep looking for a home for her closer to FL. :-) and I'll have a heart to heart with Ken on weather or not we can take a 3rd cat.

Your an amazing man Lou!  and I do wish we lived closer or could visit the Fort often.    Love all you Fort Fiends!  You guys are wonderful!

I know it, and for some inexplicable reason which once again shows how poor Fiends judge of character is, my rep points keep climbing, knock it off.

You would think that, but it's just a coincidence.

Thanks Beckers, that's very nice, but I won't be accepting any donations and would rather you buy those two little guys, and maybe even the big guy, an ice cream and tell them it's on me.
See what I did there? Gutta get those bribery rep points up. Dave is getting too close.

Anyway, these two guys love the visitor, especially Buddy.
It's odd that he wants nothing to do with Dobby, but loves the kitten.

She was not a basket case like Lil Lou when I found him. She's been eating and drinking and doing everything else normally, but I guess because she's been a stray for her entire short life, she was keeping to herself until today. She's started acting like a kitten and is playing as she should be.

    Very happy.

He loved trying to play with Buddy, but Buddy wasn't that crazy about him.

This is what I see looking up at me every morning when I turn on the outside light, and a lot of times at night when I bring the food in. Look at that face. It makes me smile.
She's doing great. She even lets me pet her now.

    Update.
He's about 8lbs now and I'm not sure he'll get any bigger. He's a very happy, vocal cat. He'll meow or chirp at us when we get home from work. He gets along great w/ our other boy cat, Jack, but Misty is still leary of him... but Louie keeps trying to "make friends" until he decides it more fun to chase her around the house.   He seems happy and healthy.
He loves going outside and is getting to be a decent hunter (he caught a Garter snake and killed it this week).  That's my boy!

Here's a recent photo of Lou and Jack snoozing beside my closet. :-)

I miss everyone!!! Hope you are all doing well.

Masshole, residents of Massachusetts, it is an achieved title for driving faster, being reckless cutting other drivers off, and having no patience for other drivers.
I grew up and lived a third of my life in Mass and the next third 15 minutes from the Mass border. Based on that description, maybe I shouldn't be driving a bus.

Put us in the camp of "get there as fast as we can so we can be there as long as possible."
In our case we're traveling about 1400 miles from NH. No kids, but we do bring our 3 dogs, so potty breaks and leg stretching are mandatory. Also I do 99% of the driving. DH *can* drive, and certainly will if I ask him, but he's just as happy having a chauffeur.
We usually put in about 12 hours of drive time the first day, take a nap for about 6 hours, 10-ish hours of driving the 2nd day, stop overnight and finish up the 2-3 hours in the morning. We try and plan when we leave to avoid busy times in the big cities.
This year I went completely insane and we got there in 2 days. (Although I guess that's not so insane really, as we always make it home in 2 days.) That put us at the Fort at about 8:30 at night, got take out at Trails End and hit the hay. It used to seem like kind of a waste to pay for a night getting there that late, but I have to say it was FANTASTIC waking up there the next morning ready to go, instead of pulling in around noon, having to setup and being exhausted from the ride.
We stop for gas/potty/leg stretching every 4 hours-ish. We carry a cooler full of sandwiches, snacks and drinks, thermos of coffee and don't generally stop for meals.

Dollface...CindyC reacted to Lou... in Let's go Lou-ping
Let's get into my new 72 passenger golf cart. 100 passengers if I have anything to say about it, and go looping. Or as 4Mickey2, aka Cheryl, recently called it, Looooou-ping. But we're not louping at the Fort, we'll be touring WDW to check out some of the subtle and not so subtle things that were done this past year.
My oversized golf cart is actually one of the newer WDW buses complete with four, yup, four surveillance cameras. But not to worry if you're not looking your best, they're not watching you unless you attack me while I'm driving, which considering how I drive, is entirely possible. The cameras are there to record the driver and what the bus is doing. How would you like it if you were being recorded during your entire work day?
The GC seats only about 35 people, so most of you will have to stand and I hope you're dressed for the cool temp inside the bus. I know, you're asking, why is it like a meat locker inside the buses? Good question. That's just how the thermostats are set. It's not set by the drivers and can't be changed except to turn it off and then the windows fog up, we'll crash and all die. The drivers compartment has heat though and isn't that what's important?
We'll start this first louping session at DTD MP.
They've extended the area where the buses make the turn-around. This was done to accommodate more people in the queue for the value resorts. With the addition of the AoA, the queues were too crowded on the back side. The extended area makes for tighter turns by the buses and more likely that they'll hit each other if there are two buses in that area at the same time, but I guess that's ok. Wonder what they'll do if they add yet another resort? Except for the three values, all of the bus stops handle multiple resorts.
While we're at the MP, take a look at the progress on the new volcano at the Rain Forest Café. I guess fake volcanoes don't last as long as the real ones.
Oh, if you're a cheapskate and want to avoid paying the parking fee at the parks by parking at DTD in the morning and busing it to the parks, rethink that strategy. It will take you forever to get there and back. It can be and is done every morning by dozens of freeloading morons.
As we head over to the island of pleasure we pass the very impressive WDW casting building on the left.
As we pull into PI you'll notice that they've added a very elaborate ECV/WC access ramp system that runs behind and parallel to the bus stops. Looks like the ADA is working it's magic again. That's ok, Disney will just pass along the cost to you.
The balloon attraction has been back for a few months, but with a different balloon. I like the new design. It has a retro look to it. For those that have never seen the balloon up close, you should, it's impressive.
On our way to the West Side you'll see the strange looking Team Disney building on the left. You'll recall that I took a couple of Fiends there for lunch. You can visit and view the outside on your own, but you can't go inside.
As we pull into the West Side bus depot you're thinking, hey Lou, Disney buses don't stop at the West Side, and you'd be right, but we're on the Fiend bus and it should be ok. There is a bus depot at the West Side for non-Disney buses. It was also used when the PI bus depot was being refurbed a few years ago.
The major new addition at the West Side is the Splitsville bowling complex located where the Virgin store use to be. It's much more than just bowling alleys. It will go a long way to satisfy those that miss the old PI. It's a sports bar, an adults only lounge, live music, upscale food, sushi bars, pool tables, dancing, oh, and concierge bowling alleys. When it was first announced, I wasn't sure if it was a good fit, but now I think it will be very popular.
Directly across the street from the West Side bus depot is Typhoon Lagoon. It just reopened from it's annual shutdown. Besides the usual winter refurb, there is a reconfigured entrance and exit. While it wasn't an issue for cars, it was a tight tight turn for buses entering and an awkward turn when exiting. I like it.
Did you ever notice that there is an operating light house beacon at the entrance. It's very noticeable at night.
Oh, BTW, before we leave the DTD/TL area, did you also know that the resort bus stop numbers at the MP, PI, and TL are identical.
That's it for now. We'll continue in another installment.
