Thanks for all of the information. That is still my favorite attraction at Walt Disney World. A visit wouldn't be complete without atleast one visit to Carousel of Progress!!!!!

We are planning on being at The Fort in September. Maybe the new expansion will make the rest of the park a little less crowded.

I just went to the disney store site and the 3 for $30 is for any 3 Duffy costumes. Believe it or not, my 26 year old daughter loves Duffy. We got her one when Duffy originally came out years ago. She was very excited to have her picture taken with him!!!

seriously I have two with barks that are like fingernails on a chalk board. At home I can say no barking and they stop, camping there is just too much new stuff to get excited about. The dog barker works great. They hate it and it usually only has to be turned on once or twice and they get the message. You don't have to worry about your ankles Genia, they are more likely to kiss your face off :rofl2:
What is the dog barker??

We have stayed at the rest area in Georgia without any problem. If there aren't any campers/motorhomes there, we usually camp along side the tractor trailors. We stayed in the rest area in Florida also without any problems. Our experience with WalMart has been mixed. We have stayed in Florida without a problem and we have stayed in Florida and got a knock on the door telling us to move. It's probably the luck of the draw. If you have a security guard that really enforces the law, then you will be asked to move.

We had a field rat get into our MH a few years ago and he ate through walls, the heat ducts, wires, etc. We even replace the radio because it wasn't playing anymore. Come to find out the field rat ate through the speaker wires. It is unbelievable the amount of damage they can do. Luckily we can do all the repairs ourselves, but it still cost us over $500 in supplies. It was in the winter and we hadn't been in the MH for a while. To make a long story short, here is what we did after repairing all of the damage:
1. Put mouse traps with peanut butter on them
2. Getthe moth cakes that you can hang. Walmart has a three pack. We hang them in the back, middle, and front of the MH
3. When it is dark, take a flash light and shine it all of the camper on the inside and have hubby look for the light on the outside. If you can see light, a mouse can get in. When we did this we found numerous opening on the underside of the MH. My husband then took the spray foam and sprayed all of the openings.
4. Make sure there isn't any food in the camper
Hope this helps

HI all!! New to this (very cool) forum! Found it kind of accidently and am thrilled. What a neat group of people Ok, here is my deal. This is our FIRST trip to the Fort. So excited, 3 young sons who can't wait to visit the park at Christmas time. We booked a pop up site. Well, me and the hubby decided we wanted to stretch all five sets of our legs better and have moved up to a hybrid style travel trailer (we had 2 pop ups before this, our last one was 25 feet opened up and the travel trailer will be only 27ft). I figure I should call and find out if they will allow my somewhat (by 2 feet) longer trailer in a pop up site and the agent tells me "oh no, this is not allowed". So I ask if there are ANY other sites at this time. Well, the answer was no. Totally bummed. Have been saving for this for a while now and she said all we can do is call back and check the website for cancellations. After reading some of your posts, I noticed one that suggested that although they 'say' we cannot park our trailer in a pop up site, that people have seen this done at the park before. Does anyone have any suggestions for us? The people at the reservation desk just told us that they could put a note on our site saying our rig was going to be bigger (?). Yet the agent said this was not allowed. Are they very strict about what trailers they allow in partial sites? Should we be scrambling to get someone's cancellation or will they work with us when we get there? I so appreciate your input....and I love sarcasm so bring it on :) Thanks all!!
What are the dates you are planning to visit The Fort? We have dates in December and might need to do some tweeking.

I was told that the only way to find out is to go to the booth that you purchase tickets and they will check each ticket for you. That's what we had to do.
-
I'm guessing 17.99 for the tape

If you have a roof mounted air conditioner, check around it also. We had a major leak around ours.

My daughter is actually staying a few nights at Shades of Green and the remainder of the time at The Fort for their honeymoon. I think it would be a great place for honeymooners.
-
Hmmm.
that is interesting.
I saw this tag on an A-liner pulling out of the 300 loop back in 2009.
I don't know what kind of official government business requires camping at the Fort, but I would like to work for that agency.
LOL!
Definitely #3!

Yea, me too. Federal benefits and The Fort, it doesn't get much better than that!!!!!

I got in trouble there a few weeks ago for posting a cryptic message in a private message that told someone where to find us. Apparently, they were an undercover spy. The funny thing is, I lost my private message priveledges, so they can't tell me because I can't received private messages!
Every time I go there these days, my computer takes waaay too long to download the site so i give up. I think God is trying to tell me to just stay where I am. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e7ZT5sajkys
That would be me that you sent the message to. I guess private isn't really private afterall. Anyway, thanks

I agree, the set of rails is really cool!!! I too remember pop tops and opening a soda can with a can opener. Great trip report as usual and I can't wait to read more. This makes me even more anxious for my trip in September. Keep up the good work.

TCD I would love to read your farewell post. Can you post it here?
I would like to read it as well

First off, I want to thank every man and woman that is a member of our military. The Navy Seals and special ops did what they are trained to do and are to be applauded.
It is my understanding that he was buried at sea because it would have been difficult to find a country that would bury him. The Muslin religion says that a person needs to be buried within 24 hours of his/her death. Even though Bin Laden was an evil person, the US respected the Muslin religion and buried him within the 24 hour time period.

Thanks, glad to be here. You all definitely made things interesting.

We bring our dogs with us. They are crate trained at home, so we bring their crates and they are fine. We always leave the TV on so they can't hear any loud noises. We have been bringing them for 5 years and wouldn't even think of leaving them home.

I would hate to see it get to the point that people like our Fiends could not day trip at the Fort. There are always going to be those people who abuse the privileges. I don't think this is true for the majority of people. When they change it where those people who come with 20 people to party at the pavillion with their rowdy children for the day, it would also keep people like Otter Spotter & Total Joker from being able to come have a relaxing day at the Fort. I want them to be able to come visit us!
If they change the rules to prevent them from coming, we will have to set up a network of Fiends to add them to their reservations! This way they can still come!
BTW Deb, we are gonna be there in a little over a week, come spend some time with us! I'll buy the beer!
I'm looking at your dates....5/5 to 5/10?? As much as I'd like to come over and see you guys, on 5/5 my DH is having his right knee replacement surgery. With any luck he will be coming home on Saturday. I don't think he'd take too kindly to me saying "I'm going to Disney World" and leaving him to fend for himself! Now, that doesn't mean I'm not tempted....but the fallout would be too great for me to deal with!!
First off, good luck with the knee replacement surgery. My husband had knee replacement on November 30, 2010. He is doing great. As far as the rules go, when we were at The Fort in 2009 there was a site that had 6 cars parked at it.

They mentioned that someone (don't know where the site was) who had a "walk thru" set-up was already told that would be a no-no. Is that on 1600??
The decorations is what makes The Fort so special at Christmas. Something has to be done if they enforce this!!!
Anybody ever had insurance total their rv?
