  1. Pets in the 1500 loop is kinda odd as they do not allow pets in a pop up in a partial site BUT you can have them in a pop up in a full hook up or better site.  I don't understand it but maybe it has something to do with tents and more noise can be heard in a tent or pop up, thus exciting the pet.  Sometimes pets can do major damage to canvas.  Imagine what a good sized dog could do to canvas held on with velcro.  If a dog were to see a local wild (haha) animal, they might be on a mission.   Not everyone keeps them kenneled in their RV.

  2. As far as pop ups go, earlier canvas that is not the vinyl outside may not have any holes in it but it can and will become brittle.  That would mean replacing at the cost of about $1K.  It takes about 2 hours to replace it.  Colemans, pre 2003, had a fiberglass roof that became brittle and that is no fun either.  I have seen air conditioners sinking down a couple of inches and being held up by a support beam.  Look for lots of patching on the roof for that.  There are a lot of those out there for sale....lol.  If you get it cheap enough and don't mind replacing the roof, then go for it.

As someone said earlier, check inside the cabinets of Trailers for evidence of being wet, soft or wavy coverings.  I saw a beautiful trailer once that looked great until I looked in there and OH BOY!

Age has nothing to do with condition.  It's all in how it was kept up.  Don't pay for sentimental value when buying.  People have asked way over book value by saying we loved this camper.  Yes, but it's still valued at $$$ in good condition.

Sometimes a new camper can be had for less than a used one a couple of years old.  They paid more then and want their money back.  Example, my 2013 is valued used at $1500 more than I paid for it a year ago.  Financing can be an affordable option on a new one.

    Have fun searching!

  3.  I have found the best thing to do is request that loop, then IF they have it available, they will give it to you.  You may have to wait a while if you get there early or if a group comes in, that may lessen your chances.  The 1500 loop is more often requested of the 2 partial loops and there are only 20 sites in that loop as opposed to the 2000 loop, which has 69 sites.  They kind of hold back the low numbered sites because some people do not like being near the bus stop, so tell them you would even accept one of those.  In most cases, they try to honor it.  I would estimate success at better than 50/50 in my experience.  I've dealt with it a few times....lol.

  4. We have started looking online at pop ups because we know that is the route we will go maybe next year.  I think I want a new one that hasn't been abused or weathered, but worry about more recent workmanship being not as good (as an earlier poster said plastic instead of metal).  My in-laws had one for 40 years that we would still be using had rodents not gotten into and destroyed.

BUT I see so many pop ups in RV lots all open all the time.  Does any dealer actually leave some closed?  Isn't it getting sun weathered before it ever gets bought???  Anyone have thoughts on this?

Yes, the quality of the new Rockwoods leave something to be desired.  Everything is made more for looks than durability.  I have to fix little things more on the new one than the older ones.
