  1. I'm not sure what disney does but for reservations most places will put a hold on the amount of the reservation but they won't run the card until you are actually there. At that point you could just say that you want to pay with a new/different card. To be safe you could also call back and tell them you have changed cards and give them the new info.
  2. I'm thinking it won't be outright dangerous...he really could not be too overloaded unless that 1800 is dry weight. I think the only thing that would go wrong is it will strain the Kia to the point it could cause issues and if that's the case then it would be better to be close to home.
  3. I was thinking the same about the weight adding up quick. Is the 1800lbs the dry weight? Keep in mind you have to count all the people in the car other than the driver and all the contents. If you are only going 30 miles or so you should be ok. Let us know how it ends up towing.
  4. I agree with going to a show. You can really see what's out there. If you are buying new you will also get your best price at a show. But in your case it sounds like tipping your toe in with a used unit might be the best bet. I'll warn you...lots of people go with the best intentions to only look and end up buying HAHA.
  5. We spend two years wanting an RV before we actually pulled the trigger so no need to jump into it faster than you feel comfortable. Personally once we got our first one I started wishing we would have bought one a lot sooner. But you do hear stories of people that like the idea of RVing, get one, and then it just sits unused. I think the idea of getting a used pop up or smaller travel trailer is a good one for anyone wanting to start RVing. If you end up not liking it then you really are not out too much and because it's used you won't take a very big deprecation hit...in fact some have so
  6. Yeah most towing ratings assume just one driver and a a full tank of gas. SO when your entire family is there plus coolers and all your other camping stuff it really adds up.
  7. What are these regens I hear people talking about. Is this maintenance you have to do or is it just a process the truck does on it's own. I guess that's just an issue with the newer trucks.
  8. Yeah when I was talking short trips I was thinking less than an hour. With the Saturn you would be overheating your trans pretty quick unless you had a cooler. Long time ago I had a Explorer Sport V6 and towed a uhaul trailer...ended up overheating and screwing up my trans. Never again do I want that happening. If you can borrow the 250 you would be in business. I can certainly understand not buying new vehicles (or new to you) and budgets.
  9. One other though is you could rent a class A or C to get in an RV fix. They are not cheap to rent but honestly they are not cheap to buy either.
  10. If you are only looking at really short trips I could probably do it and even then you would need to put some money into the Saturn. It's just not worth it. If you are really serious I'd start looking for a good sized SUV or a half ton truck. Both should do fine pulling any pop up out there. Look for something that already has a tow package. When it comes to tow vehicles I'd say buy something that has much greater capacity then you think you need because once people buy one RV they sometimes fall in love with it and then end up selling that one and buying a larger one. Happens to so many
  11. I guy on a RV forum I look at made a post about his VW Touareg. He says he's getting 29 mpg going 78 mph and gets 14.5 mpg towing his 4000lb travel trailer. The diesel engine in the Tourareg is a 3.0 liter like the one that's in the Jeep and Ram....obviously it's a different engine and will have different specs but this does show some good economy coming from this one person. My wife drives a 4 banger Rav4...great small SUV (if you can call it that) but it has worse MPG than this guys Touareg and it's smaller and has a much less powerful engine.
  12. The Rhino hose is a bit more robust than the standard ones but yeah ftwildernessguy is right...they will all sag. We bought one of the accordion style hose supporters mentioned. I don't know if I actually need it though since I will hook up my hose to the drain but I don't leave the valves open. I've always heard it's best to keep the black tank valve closed and drain it from time to time so water can build up enough to carry the #2s away. This helps to keep the black tank from building mounts/pyramids of this waste inside the tanks. (pleasant to talk about right lol) . Since I keep the
  13. You might be a little behind on the times with VW. They are putting them in most or all of their vehicles now...they still make more gas engines but the diesel ones are flying off the shelf now and probably a big reason why Ram in jumping in with this offering. The Passat diesel...which is probably the size of an Accord or Camry gets 43 MPG and has a range of 795 miles per tank. http://web.vw.com/tdi-clean-diesel/?context=showroom As far as you being unhappy with the newer diesels...I think you are right about the ones that came out after all the new environmental standards came out...the 07
  14. Well this is not the 6.7 liter cummins going into the 1500 it's a 3 liter engine so more size appropriate for good economy. From what I see the torque for the Jeep is 420 pounds...the Tundra is 400 followed by Eco Boost which is also around 420 I believe. So I'm thinking if the Ram is class leading it will be 420 or more.
  15. I have my Rhino hose I use and also bought an extension hose that I've never used....it was bought after the one time I needed it and did not have it. I an extra water hose and electric cord as well....it's always better to have those and not need it then to need it and not have it. Early on I got into a few tight spots where I had to move the trailer perfectly in order to get the hook ups in. It's always good to have backup IMO.
  16. Do lots of people bring their pets to FW? We sometimes take our dog...I hate to say it but the dog annoys me more than anything. We won't take our dog when we come....she will get to spend that time at my father in laws ranch with his dogs. Something else that I find funny in this pic is the payphone bank they have there. Those are a disappearing thing now that we all have cell phones.
  17. Not sure if this is the place to put this but if you have a travel trailer/pop up under say 7000 or 8000lbs...pretty much something that is half ton tow-able and are in the market for a new truck sometime in the next few years you might want to give the new Ram 1500 diesel a look...they say it's going to be coming out the 3rd quarter of this year. I guess a 2014. Not too many specs out on this Truck yet but the new Jeep Grand Cherokee that is out or about to be out has some specs listed on the Jeep website...it's using the same diesel engine that the Ram will be using. They say it will get 3
  18. Yeah I also didnt understand the size problem being somehow solved by a MH. I also don't understand the stress element...if you are stressed driving a truck and TT combo what makes you think driving a class A is all that less stressful? Or are you just saying the people other than the driver could relax and enjoy the trip more...that does make sense. Finally you say you don't have the money for a new truck and a new 5 wheel but then say your budget is $100-120k for a MH? You could buy a nice used 3/4 or 1 ton diesel truck for $30-40k. The other thread in this section lists a very nice 5th
  19. I hate when stores want you to have a membership card to get a discount. I prefer places without such gimmicks
  20. I plan on bringing a one of my Yeti coolers that will be just for my beer for the trip down and probably one other cooler for milk and other cold/cool stuff but probably have the ice ratio very high so I can try to avoid buying ice but maybe once near the end of my stay at FW. Yeti's can keep stuff cold for a long time if you are not constantly opening up the cooler.
  21. I don't really mind going to the store on a trip...I hate packing so if I don't have to spend time packing a bunch of food then that's one less thing I have to worry about until later. If you do pack food and haul it all that way where do you store the cold or frozen goods during transit? For our short trips we just pack it all in a cooler and then when we set up we turn on the fridge/freezer but for this type of trip you'd need a bunch more ice to keep everything cold for that long or you would have to use the propane to run your fridge. My wife for some reasons does not like the idea of r
  22. IF it's an air bed and the choice is either two twins vs one queen I'd go with two twins...gives you more options and probably more space. Also if you have another issue and one pops or whatever you still have the other one and the single twin is cheaper to replace than the queen I'd bet.
  23. We went to Sea World San Antonio over new years and stayed in an RV park that was basically right next door. The RV park was nothing special but my girls had a blast at Sea World...we watched every show...new years eve they had a big fire works show. We did three days in SA.....two at Sea World and one down by the riverwalk/alamo. Overall very fun trip. That being said we are pretty much cured of going to sea world for many years to come...it's like we did all that we could do there and we have not urge to go back. The food there is terrible.
  24. Awesome Peterbilt truck but man that first presenter is terrible...his favorite word was beautiful the "big man" isnt as bad....his favorite word...luxurious They both also like to say "ladies and gentelmen" very often...hahahaha. They really need to lose the suits too. Who drives a big truck wearing a suit? I want to buy a truck from someone that looks like he drives trucks and actually knows what to look for in a truck.
  25. I think the factories give the dealers an extra kickback for shows and that's how they are able to give better deals. That's what I was told by a sales person...he did not use the word kickback. But it's one of those things that you say yeah sure buddy thinking they are just trying to give you a reason to buy sooner rather than later. But yeah it seems like it's true...show prices are better. However I'm sure someone will always be able to get a better deal but I think on average it just maybe be true.
