  1. Looks like I'll wrap this up within the same year! Yay!

Friday morning was check out day and the beginning of our long journey home.

My sister packed up the room, dropped the guys off at Blizzard Beach and then went to Target.

Remember those zebra domes I bought the night before? They were my breakfast on Friday. If having zebra domes for breakfast is wrong, I don't ever want to be right.

First order of business after checking out was returning my rental car. My sister met me there to pick me up since I was now without wheels. We talked about lunch options and settled on the new-to-us Geyser Point at Wilderness Lodge. I talked about the experience here, but the highlights were: no functioning fans, and outdoor seating in August = hot. I wasn't a happy camper.

    fHd3L3ol.jpg

You can see it wasn't terribly busy.

    s76WIZcl.jpg

Found a picture of my sister's bison burger with gluten free bun.

    8jdu7BWl.jpg

After lunch we went back to the GF. My sister went to the pool. She had a furry companion come to visit.

    fPkTybBl.jpg

I saw a sign in the lobby that helped explain why I couldn't get a tea reservation for this past week.

    T4UQk8Xl.jpg

I saw them doing some work in there so I'll be curious to see if I notice any changes when I'm back in January.

I left my stuff in my sister's minivan and tried to head to MK for one last visit. I stood in line at the GF monorail station security and promptly went nowhere. The line wasn't moving, and neither was the monorail. It turned out the fire alarm was going off at the Contemporary and all monorails were stopped. And because of weather (lightning in the area), the boats weren't running either. And it was a MNSSHP night. This all added up to a lot of unhappy campers. I threw in the towel and met up with my sister again instead, which was probably a better choice.

She had to get some stuff she'd checked with bell services, so we went to the main building front desk to ask whether we could get our stuff there or whether we had to go back to the DVC building. Turns out we had to go back to the DVC building but they had someone who was looking for something to do, so he told us to come with him and hop on the golf cart for a ride back to the DVC building. This was way more fun than standing in line to get into the MK on a MNSSHP night! Golf cart selfie! Poor driver didn't make it into the photo.

    5e3XasZl.jpg

My sister got her stuff, and then the guy drove us right out into the parking lot directly to the van. How's THAT for service? He did mention he was bored and looking for something to do, and we were happy to help him out in that regard. We loaded up the last of the stuff into the van and then headed over to Blizzard Beach to pick up the guys. After retrieving them, we went to Disney Springs for some last minute shopping/browsing and a bite to eat. Each parent took a kid and I ventured out on my own.

Would you pay $2000 for a chair?

    mx6BSCdl.jpg

I wouldn't... but I wish I knew somebody who would wear this shirt!

    jkjGnRDl.jpg

We regrouped for dinner at Blaze. This was my first time there. What a zoo! The ordering process, and find a place to sit, and the buzzers... I found it all a bit much. Maybe I was just burned out by this point. And I dropped something on the floor and hit my head on the table when I tried to pick it up. Ugh. Time to go home!

Here's my farewell meal. And yes, I ate the whole thing by myself.

    lEaOJj3l.jpg

I took the first shift of driving heading back to the Great White North. The remnants of Harvey were making their way north and east, which determined our route. No going up 75 this time, even though that's my sister's preferred way.

    fC0Lh2xl.png

This was the time stamp when we pulled out of parking garage Lime.

    IHwu11sl.jpg

We drove straight through the night, alternating between 3 drivers, and in less than 24 hours we were home. My husband picked me up at my sister's and that was the end of my two week Disney adventure. Thanks for reading!

  2. Thursday morning was another check out day. All these different hotels were great for the kids who got to try lots of different pools, but they were no fun for all the packing and unpacking. The kids wanted to spend more time in the Beach Club pool - and you can use the facilities for the whole day you check out. So the kids went to the pool.

This was also another Beaches & Cream day (remember I said there were 3 reservations?). I got the kids grilled chicken... with maybe 12 fries?

    hHFvCZo.jpg

The kids meal comes with the cute little mouse ice cream. I got strawberry.

    e4ZkZAA.jpg

    Bam5hm8.jpg

My BIL tried the grilled banana bread with peanut butter. I'd heard good things about it but in the end I'm glad I didn't order it - it was too heavy for me.

    enYsCan.jpg

Next up it was time to check into the Grand Floridian for our last night. We weren't able to get in the room yet, so the kids went to the pool.

They have a neat Mary Poppins penguin fountain in the lobby of the DVC building.

    vhrP78L.jpg

The room was similar to the others we'd stayed in.

    The pull down bed here.

    OQd6i5X.jpg

I love the artwork you can see when you pull down the bed!

    gs21aP3l.jpg

    Little kitchette.

    FYfadj7.jpg

    Big shower.

    A3yXxZb.jpg

Hard to see in this picture but there's a TV screen in the bottom right corner of the mirror. Can people really not be away from TV that long?!

    RpwYZOS.jpg

    Not hidden Mickey.

    FrTWhuP.jpg

Our balcony had a monorail view.

    grDxJtk.jpg

We didn't decline any of the Magic Bands so I added another one to my collection.

    mm0GAUB.jpg?1

In the afternoon I went to MK. Sure was nice to be so close again.

I did a few of my favorites. Started with the Jungle Cruise, then off to iasw. I always take a picture at the beginning in case I get suck on the ride. The time stamp on the beginning photo lets me know how long I've been there.

    HxgtLQFl.jpg

At the end I finally got to see my name on the Goodbye screen! It's cool and creepy at the same time!

    hZwfET9l.jpg

I did the Haunted Mansion and got stopped here for a short bit. It reminded me that we didn't see the gravekeeper and his dog in the MNSSHP party this year. (Sorry for the bad photo quality - I won't use flash in a dark ride.)

    xHvQuAXl.jpg

After HM I went into Memento Mori. These socks looked cool but they felt really scratchy! Fail.

    M2iZfoIl.jpg

I got to do my faves and had other things to tend to, so I left the park after this and took the boat from MK back to the GF.  When I got back to the GF parking lot there was a very cool bird on top of a light standard in the parking lot. I wish I had my binoculars to get a better look.

    gK0u28Tl.jpg

I hopped in the car and stopped at the Speedway gas station to fuel up, knowing that I had to return the car the next day and not wanting to have to get gas when I had too many other things to do.

I managed to convince my BIL to do our last dinner at Sanaa so that's where I met up with them after my exciting trip to the gas station. You can read about the food here.

    Beer pouring action shot.

    RJaGPk0l.jpg

After dinner we went up to the gift shop and I got myself some Zebra Domes to go.

    PMWCSpVl.jpg

We all headed back to the GF after this, and that was the end of Thursday.

  3. Wednesday was the last park day for my BIL and the two kids.

At lunch I went over to the Boardwalk area and decided on the Big River Grille & Brewing Works. They had a patio out front but it was just too hot for that. I was hoping for a nice wheat beer. They brought me a little sample of a beer I thought I might like.

    hOmN0KL.jpg

Not so much. A glass of sangria would have to do. It's a tough life, eh?

    eycIrb2.jpg

All that fruit on the glass reminded me of a time I ordered a Blue Moon at home and said, "hold the fruit". Well the server guy heard "all the fruit" so my beer showed up with a slice each of lemon, lime, and orange. I was in stitches. It still cracks me up to this day.

For lunch I ordered the quesadilla. It was really salty! Not sure I'd order that again.

    nJKWYm1.jpg

Around 5 pm I drove to the TTC to hop the ferry and join the guys.

    Parking reminder!

    iX7SRDu.jpg

    GNXX1xD.jpg

I met up with the guys and they were hungry, so off we went back to Cosmic Ray's. I'm a sucker for their chicken nuggets... and their mobile ordering.

    6aF8HVR.jpg

After dinner we split up, BIL and I each taking a kid. I forget which kid I got but he must have drawn the short straw because we did headline attractions like.. Carousel of Progress, and CBJ. We regrouped to do Pirates.

    DIPPwi7.jpg

We saw some fireworks from Tomorrowland.

    jtXoCNg.jpg

And we all did MILF. My BIL got picked to be the guy who has gotta boogie!

    uUKI65l.jpg

We were hoping he'd be "That Guy", but dancing guy was good too.

We split up again and I think we swapped kids. This kid got a better deal because we went for Dole Whips.

    XQ56pPy.jpg

And then we did BTMRR. I think maybe I should have done those activities in the opposite order...

We regrouped at Mickey's Philharmagic, then I took a kid to the Haunted Mansion, which turned out to be a bad decision. He wanted to do some shopping and by the time we got to Main Street, the Emporium was closed. What's up with that?! I felt really bad. :(

Our last activity was to conduct a science experiment. Which is faster to get back to the Beach Club - driving or Disney transportation? One kid came with me and we took the ferry to the TTC and grabbed the car, and the other kid went with my BIL and took a Disney bus.

My sister watched the race via the iPhone's "Find My Friends". By time I arrived at the TTC lot, my BIL was still waiting for a bus.

    OXTFoa7.jpg

Kid and I were back in the room by the time my BIL and the other kid arrived at the Beach Club bus stop.

    Bvn91nZ.jpg

Got in a decent number of steps considering I wasn't at the park all day. (10.64 km = 6.6 miles)

    k4ZtPdJ.jpg

    And that was Wednesday!

  4. Oy - it's almost 2018 and I'm still chipping away at this trip report.

We left off at the end of Monday August 28 - which was my birthday. Tuesday morning was a check out day - we had to leave the Poly and check into the Beach Club. My sister and her family packed up their stuff and left fairly early since the kids were eager to hit the Beach Club pool.

I don't have a lot of pictures of the room but I grabbed these ones that my sister took.

    iPMDYH0l.jpg

    okacMu2l.jpg

That table folds down and the chairs move out of the way and that's where my pull down bed was.

    Little kitchenette.

    L93bOkNl.jpg

My sister made something like 3 reservations for Beaches & Cream (!) the first of which was around 2:30.

I'd read good things about the "frozen sunshine" so I ordered one of those.

    ku7H6nvl.jpg

    tnh3hqwl.jpg

I wish I'd remembered to ask them to leave off the whipped cream (I'm not a fan). I gave most of it to one of the kids.

It looks like I enjoyed it!

    2teMPckl.jpg

    I'd order that again.

I had a burger... with thick fries!

    UbdDDbIl.jpg

One of the kids got a sundae that was super cute!

    OM9QAITl.jpg

They use the cherry stem for a tail!

    n3BapGQl.jpg

After lunch the kids went back to the pool. They had another Beaches & Cream reservation for 7 that night, but I decided to give that one a pass. I went to DHS instead. One of the guys working security saw my MNSSHP shirt and had a few questions so we had a nice chat about how much fun the party is. He'd never been and I like to think I convinced him to go.

I didn't manage to get in one last ride on GMR - it closed a week or so before we arrived.

    WI7ijc3l.jpg

Interestingly there was a PhotoPass photographer out front. They had a fish eye lens.

    QKPjMOnl.jpg

I'd managed to get a same-day TSM FastPass so I did that.

    RxDbVdIl.jpg

    I'm not very good.

It was still quite toasty at 8:20 pm. 27°C is 80°F.

    PSk3mutl.jpg

I did the Muppets (because why not) and also stopped for one more PhotoPass picture.

    NOf9DL9l.jpg

See that piston trophy on the right? Interestingly enough my car club has trophies that look quite a bit like that. Only smaller. We give them out each year for things like best car, greatest act of spirit, and member of the year.

I stopped by Sweet Spells to grab myself a carrot cake cookie. I love those things.

Having done all I wanted to do at DHS I headed back to the hotel because I wanted to wander around the Boardwalk.

    PmKRcXwl.jpg

I went to the Abracadabar, which you can read about here.

There was a magician gathering quite a crowd. I didn't stay and watch though.

There was a photo booth I went into. Wow, it sure trapped the heat of the day in there. But the good news is that if you can zap your Magic Band and get the pictures added to your PhotoPass account. Which I did.

    su6bCOT.jpg

After that I called it a night and walked back to the hotel.

  5. 19 minutes ago, Tri-Circle-D said:

-HDDR for your birthday was the perfect choice.  What kind of meat do they serve for guests who request gluten free?

The only thing that's problematic is the fried chicken. They offered to bring grilled chicken instead, but my sister was content to just chow down on the ribs.

For dessert instead of strawberry shortcake they bring an "OMG" brownie with strawberry sauce. You also have the option to get cookies or fruit. Since they share a kitchen with Trail's End you have lots of options, including gluten free mac & cheese.

  6. The nice thing about the Pago Pago building is it's a relatively short/easy walk to the TTC to catch the ferry over to MK, so that's what I did at lunch.

    g3pcpkPl.jpg

I went to the Starbucks on Main Street and the guy could not have been more disinterested in my birthday... despite wearing my birthday button (which I only wore on my actual birthday, not the rest of the trip) and asking about using my birthday reward. No little happy face on the cup or anything. No Starbucks magic for me. But I did get to be on Main St for my birthday so that's plenty good.

    0ulwYOUl.jpg

I had some fun with a PhotoPass photographer on my way out. I tried flirting shamelessly with him but I expect I just creeped him out. I should really start acting my age now that I'm well into my 40s...

    9PKhGeNl.jpg

    cYccZPYl.jpg

When this trip was planned/booked I knew I'd be here for my birthday so I thought quite a bit about where I wanted to go for dinner... So I booked us Hoop Dee Doo!

    sMInYHSl.jpg

    Bucket of salad? Check.

    HT0SpGal.jpg

    Tasty corn bread? Check.

    L5VHqNgl.jpg

    Beans, corn, and spuds? Check.

    1BbGy79l.jpg

Sad because you've already gone through your first bucket of meat? Check!

    SbYFM3sl.jpg

My sister was thrilled to see Chef TJ who came around because we'd indicated gluten-free. My sister asked him for the gluten-free cornbread and TJ said, "Sorry  - we don't have any". My sister was pretty disappointed until he  reached into his chef coat pocket and produced the gluten-free cornbread he'd had all along. That was good for a laugh. And they were generous with the refills too.

Speaking of refills... I ordered the white sangria and a lemonade.

    tPyV47Ml.jpg

    yjub4Q5l.jpg

When I finished the white, I figured I should try the red. Our server brought that AND she brought along her own special blend. The blend was fantastic! It's mostly white, with a bit of red, and a bit of orange soda. Amazing! I didn't finish the red - I was ready to float away with all those liquids.

The show was as good as always. They seem to enjoy themselves and I think they're often genuinely cracking up.

    tcGfvPal.jpg

My strawberry shortcake came with a candle. 🙂

    hXCej0Vl.jpg

When we got outside it was raining but this time we were prepared with ponchos! I wanted to check  out the Trading Post so we went there and browsed for a bit, then took the bus back to the parking lot and drove back to the Poly. Not a bad birthday!

  7. Sunday morning we finished packing and loaded up my sister's minivan. We told the kids that I had to return the rental car, so they'd follow me. But of course we weren't going home! I drove to the Poly and my  sister told the kids, "She probably wants a Dole  Whip for breakfast."

When I got to  the security  booth  at  the Poly I told the guy, "We're checking in, but the kids don't know that, so please tell them I'm getting a  Dole Whip for breakfast." He said no problem and my sister got through no  problem. We both parked and went inside.

My sister had already done online check-in, which meant that our Magic Bands were already valid... for things like the pool. Remember when we were there earlier in the week for breakfast and one of the kids tried his band on the reader at the pool and it didn't work?

So we went outside to where the Pineapple Lanai is and my sister said to that kid,  "Why don't you show your brother how the magic band reader only opens the pool door if you're staying here?". Well you should have seen the look on his face when the magic band reader light turned green and he could open the door! That's when she fessed up that not only were we not going home, but we had 2 nights at the Poly, 2 nights at the Beach Club, and 1 night at the GF. Best parents ever, eh?

We went back inside to the front desk and did another check-in. We all got leis, and they had a birthday button waiting for me! That was a nice touch.

    MitTW0Ll.jpg

My sister didn't decline any of the magic bands for this week so we got a set here. I customized mine and wished there was room for one more letter...

    VBdDvW9l.jpg

Our room wasn't ready but we were, of course, welcome to use the facilities. We all got changed into our bathing suits and hit the pool. I'm not much for swimming, but I can happily sit outside under an umbrella and watch the world go by. After a while I got peckish and went inside and upstairs to Kona Island. I forget exactly what it was I ordered (California rolls maybe?) but I remember thinking it was kind of expensive for what I got.

    jyOSg9ql.jpg

And good thing I didn't want to use chopsticks because the package they gave me was a little short...

    5zHSLqKl.jpg

After this it seemed like a good time for a little poolside adult beverage. I went to the Barefoot Pool Bar and got the Lava Flow.

    WuAw7r3l.jpg

    rnb7mFYl.jpg

It was tasty (I like coconut) but again rather pricey.

This year my Dad taught my sister's kids that there's often money underneath vending machines.

    nGfFeScl.jpg

Eventually my sister got the notification that our room was ready. Since it was a DVC room we were in Pago Pago. The room was ridiculously nice.

    QINAJdhl.jpg

    There's a little kitchenette area.

    npZnbVdl.jpg

Two showers/one tub, separated by a door, and a sink on each side.

    a6Us3Gdl.jpg

    hAfYUEdl.jpg

    0kgFkfbl.jpg

There's a double bed with lots of storage space under the foot of the bed, and drawers on either side towards the head of the bed.

    QkX0a0dl.jpg

The sofa is a pull-out bed (this is where the kids slept) and I believe there's storage inside that little coffee table.

    41HxOj3l.jpg

As for me... this credenza looking thing...

    0Zn6IJgl.jpg

    Is a pull down bed.

    WnGT16Wl.jpg

That's Stitch sleeping in a hammock in the artwork. The light above is a nice touch. I knew I'd be in these pull-down beds for the week without a night side table so I planned ahead and got some of those 3M "command" removable hooks and a small hanging organizer. It worked perfectly to hold my glasses/cell phone/etc.

    Q78bVFrl.jpg

    There's a little sitting area.

    S7r5I1Nl.jpg

    The lamp is super cute.

    tOW7KKEl.jpg

There's a big balcony with two chairs and a table.

    QWxRZAal.jpg

And a nice view of the monorail... and parking lot.

    HDkVimMl.jpg

After we checked in and got settled I discovered I'd lost a cable I needed for my computer so I popped over to Target to get a replacement. When I got back we ordered dinner... 'Ohana room service! I can't find it on Disney's site but it's called the 'Polynesian Twilight Feast" and it's basically 'Ohana brought to your room. I believe my sister ordered it as 2 adults, 1 gluten-free child and it was more than enough food for the 5 of us.

    Salad.

    xkkRULql.jpg

    Noodles, pot stickers, and veg.

    QjbunxEl.jpg

Big ole plate of meat and rice.

    kK84IwJl.jpg

    Buns

    YyTnzYLl.jpg

    Two kinds of sauce.

    JNRVp3il.jpg

    These are the gluten-free buns

    79H9wgul.jpg

    And gluten-free dessert cookies.

    vfH0MrAl.jpg

I didn't get a picture of the bread pudding but rest assured they sent that too along with the sauce.

After dinner the kids went back to the pool. I went to Trader Sam's with my BIL. Based on a TCD trip report I  ordered a Heart of Te Fiti. Can't go wrong with a light up drink.

    MOs7Q5Ol.jpg

My BIL got the shrunken zombie head. After our drinks we went outside in time to catch the MK fireworks. And that was the end of that day.

  8. Let's see if I can't get this wrapped up - the second week should be pretty quick since it was way less interesting, unfortunately.

We left off on a Friday night having been to MNSSHP.  Despite being up late Friday night, we still managed rope drop on Saturday  morning at Epcot. In the parking lot I spotted an Alaska license plate. That's a heck of a drive!

    NZPzL3ml.jpg

Here was this morning's parking reminder.

    mo4mI9bl.jpg

While the boys went off to do Test Track, I decided to swing by Starbucks for a sugar drink. When I opened up my app to pay it wished me a happy birthday.

    ol1F47tl.png

When I got to the register the guy seemed to suggest he could redeem it - I didn't think that was possible since they aren't a "real" Starbucks. I thanked him and told him I wanted to save it for my real birthday. Spoiler alert: I should have taken him up  on the offer.

Did you know that a tall chai latte has more sugar than a Snickers bar? I forget where I heard that and it sounded crazy but I looked it up and sure enough it's true. I've tried to limit my consumption of these ever since. No more than one a week.

I took my drink to the exit area of Test Track and found a bench to sit on to wait for the  guys.  It turns out that they were stuck on Test Track not far from where they boarded and they were being evacuated. They were given paper fastpasses for their trouble.

From there we headed over to the Land so they could use their Soarin fastpasses. I loitered around while they did that, and once they were done we rode Living with the Land. While in line for the Land I saw someone with a Touring Plans button. My sister is in the Liners FB group so  I  took a  picture thinking my sister would know who  it was.

    sISBBzyl.jpg

Apparently she's well known. Anyway, we did Living with the Land. I never get tired of that. I'm pretty sure we split up at this point - my BIL took one kid and I took the other.

The kid and I went and did Journey into Imagination and then the Pixar shorts in the same building. I think they'd added a new one or two since the last time I did it, so that was nice. I don't think the kid had done them before though he recognized some of them from the movies.

After this we met up with my BIL and the other kid. My sister had asked us to go to the DVC lounge that's inside the Imagination pavilion. I didn't even know there was such a thing but I guess that's not surprising since I'm not a DVC member. Here's the entrance to the DVC lounge.

    Sn72alZl.jpg

My BIL checked us in with the CM (I forget what you need to do as proof - maybe a DVC member card?) and they said, "Welcome home!" Then the most interesting part... They said, "Although we say 'welcome home', please keep your shoes on and don't put your bare feet on the table." We assured them that wouldn't be a problem and went upstairs.

There's a nice little lounge up there with comfy seating and lots of places to charge your phone. There's also 3 Coke "freestyle" machines and a Keurig.

I somehow thought it would be a good idea to combine a drink with charging my phone and managed to do this:

    Zm78XQsl.jpg

There's an area for kids with a TV playing cartoons. There's also some video games. One of the kids partook.

    gPpZIvel.jpg

Two CMs came through with a cart of snacks.

    tF713HQl.jpg

After cooling off and refueling we headed over to Spaceship Earth. I don't know how it happened but I managed to get my head there twice and whoever was with me on the ride (I think it was my BIL) didn't get his face at all.

    mLmODRjl.jpg

Test Track was up and running again and the guys wanted to use their paper fastpasses so we went back there. Successful ride this time! When they got out it didn't take much work for me to convince them to go to Taste Track - the food truck-like thing not far from Test Track. The harder part was deciding whether to go for the apple pie sundae, or the chocolate churro sundae. We went for the churro one. One sundae with two churros and four spoons disappeared pretty quickly in the August heat.

The guys wanted to do Mission Space after this so they went to do that. I wandered around and checked out the recently closed Universe of Energy.

    Ba2SJAtl.jpg

    NFBr4hLl.jpg

    Yep, nothing to see there.

I went into Mouse Gears and saw a Small World shirt I liked... in the children's section.

    zZ5hWAnl.jpg

Fortunately a children's XL fits me just fine...

    6bQfb5Hl.jpg

I didn't buy it though. I will say there have been several children's shirt designs I've liked better than the adult designs, so it's nice to have that option if an XL size is available.

The guys regrouped with me at Mouse Gears and we headed over to Mexico by way of signing up for an Agent P adventure. We did the Gran Fiesta Tour first and then  the kids did their Agent P.

    Fsn3Xfpl.jpg

When Agent P took us to China, I got a photopass photographer to take my picture.

    MMaLaXhl.jpg

We must have wrapped up in France because it was time for more ice cream, this time at L'Artisan des Glaces.

    zhEpF8cl.jpg

My BIL said he'd never done the American Adventure and was interested in doing it so we headed over there. We got in line for the next show and weren't there very long before a CM came walking down the ramp to let us know that the next show had been cancelled. I'm not positive but it sounded like there was a bodily output that needed to be cleaned up in the auditorium. We decided to cut our losses and leave. When we got back  outside we noticed the skies were NOT looking very nice at all. By the time we got to England the  skies opened up and we ducked inside a gift shop... and stayed there  probably for an hour just sitting on the floor by the fireplace (with no fire). There was quite a front going through. Of course we had nothing useful with us - no umbrella, no ponchos. You'd  think this was our first rodeo!

    pTyjUyLl.png

In the gift shop they had some nice Alice in Wonderland mugs. I regret not getting either the Cheshire Cat or the Queen of Hearts one. Maybe next time.

    946om6Wl.jpg

    7aW5jOol.jpg

Eventually the rain tapered off enough that we were willing to go outside. Many of the sewer grates got clogged and there was ankle-deep water on the walkway. I took my shoes off and walked through the water in bare feet. We went into the Canada pavilion to watch O Canada. Kind of funny to be Canadian and go watch it, but the kids hadn't seen it before.

After the movie the guys decided they'd had enough. Since the Refreshment Port was on the way out, I couldn't resist stopping for a croissant donut.

Back at the condo we got to the important task of going through all the Halloween candy we'd received at MNSSHP.

    TPC6sQhl.jpg

Once that important task was complete we did some packing and got ready for bed. Tomorrow (Sunday) is check-out day from the condo and the kids think we're heading home.

Here was my last big park day step count. 12.56 km = 7.8 miles.

  9. Just realized I left out a key detail that will become relevant later on.

When we were at the Poly for the Ohana breakfast, Stitch kid was looking longingly at the  Poly pool and saw that there was a gate that could only be opened with a Magic Band. He zapped his MB, the light turned red, and the gate wouldn't open. We weren't surprised by this, but you can't knock the kid for trying.

Glad to see you back writing more about your trip. I have always wanted to do an after hours party.  Was it worth the extra money?

I think MNSSHP is worth it for me  - I love the parade and fireworks. Plus Halloween is my favorite. The atmosphere is fantastic.

But if I had to pay for a family of 4 or more I might have a different answer! I've never done the other hard ticket events like MVMCP.

  11. Don't you hate it when life gets in the way of a writing trip report? Sorry for the lengthy intermission.

We're now on Friday, August 25.

My sister booked an 'Ohana breakfast for her and the Stitch-loving kid. My BIL and the other kid went to Typhoon Lagoon in their minivan, so I volunteered to take my sister and the kid over to the Poly for their ADR. While they had their breakfast I just wandered around, sat outside, and got myself a little breakfast at Capt Cook's. Breakfast burrito review was posted here.

After breakfast we went to Target to grab a few things. This was the beginning of pumpkin spice season so I was amused to see pumpkin spice Cheerios, Special K, Frosted Mini Wheats, etc.

This was a bit of a lazy day because we were resting up for MNSSHP. I had a nap... And remember that orange creamsicle cupcake I got earlier? I split that with the kids. It was good!

    F8B9cdhl.jpg

Around 3:00 we all piled in the minivan and left the time share to head to the TTC. I took the parking spot reminder picture at 3:33.

    XiOqt1il.jpg

My sister had friends who were also going to be at MNSSHP this night and I forget exactly why but their off-site stroller got delivered to our time share and we took it with us to the park to give to them. Which gave me another opportunity to ride in a stroller!

    sNac7ASl.jpg

We took the ferry over to MK and arrived pretty much right at 4. There was already a decent sized crowd queued up in the party line. We had no trouble getting through the tapstiles and getting our wristbands. Our first task after getting in was to grab a locker to ditch some stuff. It's been a while since I last got a locker and the system was pretty easy.  There's an ATM-like kiosk where you pay and it assigns a locker number.

    C9DJ0pml.jpg

    y8eWTAdl.jpg

From there we went to the Fire Hall to get our MNSSHP SOTMK card. My sister kept all of them, which was fine by me since I never play.

The guys wanted to do Space Mountain so we headed to Tomorrowland. My sister and I did the People Mover while the guys did Space Mountain. While waiting for the guys to come back my sister and I shared a frozen Coke from the Lunching Pad. I love those things.

My sister's main priority for the party was to get her picture taken with the 7 Dwarfs, so when the guys were ready we headed over to new Fantastyland. There was already a pretty big line before 6:00.

    HZ85Ao8l.jpg

The weather wasn't great. It rained off and on.

    zKlxHFYl.jpg

The kids were peckish so I took them over to Big Top Souvenirs for a sugar infusion.

After about 90 minutes it was our turn to  meet the Dwarfs. My sister was happy.

    R8EAFq2l.jpg

We went to Cosmic Ray's and had some food, then started tracking down the special party treats. Unfortunately we were only able to get 2 out of the 4. By the time we got to the last two places they were already sold out. :(

    u7s1n3Ml.jpg

    pq4PRy3l.jpg

    iPwHwVdl.jpg

    QKAIWxtl.jpg

Both of the ones we had were good so I'm a little bummed we didn't get to try the other 2. My sister also got the candy corn ice cream - I think I had one small bite.

    RVd3fccl.jpg

We did some trick or treating. Because my sister is gluten-free she was interested in their allergy friendly treats. At the stations they give you one of these tokens and you redeem them later.

    Kf0VROrl.jpg

By the time she went to City Hall at the end of the night to redeem her tokens there wasn't much to choose from. I thought I had a picture but I can't seem to find it. Anyway, she was disappointed.

We did the first Boo to You parade. This is the best parade!

    8mzxy2Fl.jpg

    ST96VkTl.jpg

    CMp9TKPl.jpg

I don't remember what all we did... I think the guys went off and did more rides. My sister and I tracked down the PhotoPass magic shots.

    pzfGbqI.jpg

Looks like I was in Frontierland for the fireworks.

    dg5Kyi7.jpg

    I saw the Cadaver Dans.

    JiNhxZB.jpg

Towards the end of the night one of the kids went to a trick or treat station and the CM filled his bag to the brim!

    0gmzlF9.jpg?1

The bag was so heavy the only way to carry it was like a baby, thus the name "candy baby" was born. It was quite a hoot to have that much candy.

The kids bought some pins at the Emporium and then had a little pout because there was a party-only pin available at the Frontier Trading Post that we didn't know about until it was too late. I got a passholder T-shirt.

We called it quits about 12:30.

    fJhnwFW.jpg

I loved this CM on the way out.

    LKctWNZ.jpg

Here was my Halloween Party step count.

    n8gUj7R.jpg

Oh yes, forgot to mention that we were those boring people who don't really do costumes. I wore my MNSSHP shirt from 2014,  my sister wore an Iron Man dress, BIL wore a Disney Halloween shirt,  one kid wore his Stitch stuff, and the other kid Disneybounded as Sorcerer Mickey. It was HOT so comfort was our main priority.

You really ought to give the mobile ordering feature on the My Disney Experience App a try.  They offer it at Deluxe Burger, and at a lot of other quick serve locations.  The beauty of it is that you do not have to stand in line behind guests like those you described.  You place your order an pay on-line, then alert the restaurant when you arrive, and you will get summoned to pick up your order.  It works very well.  So much aggravation saved.

I did it at Cosmic Ray's and the Satu'li Canteen and thought it was great! Unfortunately in this case the food was for my sister and she requires a gluten free bun, and you can't mobile order something gluten free. :(

  13. Thursday was a bit of a rest day. My sister dropped the menfolk off at Typhoon Lagoon first thing in the morning and then she went to the Disney outlet store on International Drive. She got a good deal on an Avengers Dooney so she was pretty happy about that. We agreed we'd meet up at Disney Springs when she was done.

I checked MDE and managed to score myself a FP for FEA in the afternoon so that gave me a plan of Disney Springs in the morning and Epcot in the afternoon. I also had a 5:45 dinner ADR for Jiko - I would have gone alone but the rest of the crew said they'd join me so I booked it for 5 people.

I always park in Lime. Love the little parking space indicators in the garage to let you know when a space is free/occupied. I wish more places had that but I can see how retrofitting would be expensive and painful.

    NeKZawql.jpg

We browsed some shops. My sister bought some shirts at Uniqlo. I'm always on the lookout for mugs/glasses so I did a quick skim for those at the World of Disney.

A trip to the Coke store was on my list of things to do, so we headed there. I'd heard about their float tray and knew it was something I needed to try. You have to take an elevator to the top floor to get to where they serve these. Note that the space up there isn't air conditioned and the music is pretty loud.

Anyway, here's the guy preparing our float tray.

    GOwrm8jl.jpg

And a bunch of float tray pictures.

    6I9Jhhml.jpg

    H8AYZc8l.jpg

    RxSwCy6l.jpg

    qQsNi6Pl.jpg

I talked about the float tray here, including pricing.

If you're so inclined you can buy this giant bottle and get it filled with Coke product.

    nGd0AxJl.jpg

I shudder to think of how much sugar and how many calories that is.

In keeping with the fine tradition of "life is uncertain, eat dessert first" my sister wanted to hit up D-Luxe burger. I went with her just to keep her company. The line wasn't long but it was slow moving. One group ahead of us had a lengthy debate about their MagicBands and PIN. Then the group right before us decided to wait until they got to the register to decide what they wanted  to order, rather than say using the 15 minutes we'd been waiting in line. That drives me crazy! Anyway, sister ordered the kids meal which I think I'd do if I go there again, and about the time her food arrived is when I took my leave to head to Epcot.

I arrived a bit before 1 pm. Parking!

    kOXHJCAl.jpg

My FastPass for FEA was at 1:20 so that was good timing. I got to the attraction at about 1:15. I sat in the shade on the little curb by the FP tapstiles. And at 1:19... the attraction went down, the door closed, and we were asked to make our way from the entrance. Doh!

There was a PhotoPass photographer so I stopped for a picture. I asked if he had any magic shots but either he didn't understand me or he was new, or maybe there aren't any? Either way, I just got this picture.

    JCSsWWOl.jpg

After half a float tray clearly the logical thing to eat after that is... school bread. How could I pass it up since I was so close?

    4ht48knl.jpg

I decided I'd go do something I hadn't done in a while - the Reflections of China movie. I didn't take any pictures. I think I saw something recently that said they're looking to update the movie? It's pretty old at this point. Despite having to stand, at least it was air conditioned. I was disappointed to see that the Terracotta Warriors display is gone.

I wandered back to FEA and saw it was back up again so I rode. Somebody in the boat kept using his flash to take endless pictures. I expect they didn't turn out worth beans. Since I knew there was a ride photo, I took the opportunity to give them my best face.

    LGeMLhZl.jpg

I made myself a SSE FastPass. I never get tired of this so can happily ride it any time opportunity presents. Got stopped a couple of times, but not for too long.

    GiPoMiFl.jpg

    nL450Jzl.jpg

Sadly the put your face on the screen thing wasn't working, so no goofy picture to share there.

I wandered a bit after this and happened to stumble on the Mobile Muppet Lab. I couldn't find any listings for this to see if it comes out on a regular schedule. Does anybody have any other information on it?

    NgRvGpIl.jpg

I kept looking around to see if could spot whoever was controlling it but apparently I wasn't clever or observant enough. This was way more creative than that silly iCan razor robot in Tomorrowland. Streamers! Bubbles! I thought this was great and would love to stumble on it again.

Next stop was the Fountain View (aka Starbucks) to get one of those orange creamsicle cupcakes. They are pre-boxed in a refrigerated case, so you can just grab and go.

    IWzOCR5l.jpg

The most interesting thing I learned from this trip to Starbucks is that they have a nice cold water dispenser in the area where you get the cream/sugar for your coffee. No waiting in line to get a free cup of ice water. You can just walk in and help yourself.

This cupcake was for sharing later, so at this point I just headed out of the park and back to the time share.

I went with my sister in her minivan to go pick up the menfolk from Typhoon Lagoon and then we went to Jiko for dinner. You can read about it here.  No excitement after dinner, just back to the time share for some time to relax and digest.

You referring to the boys as, the kid, has me cracking up. Does the Pirate adventure cost money to do? Great idea with the chair socks, I might have my daughter make our chairs some.

The Pirate's Adventure doesn't cost money, apart from park admission.

The guy on the right pic looks like a young teddy Roosevelt.  I'm sure that's not it, because there is probably a story behind it.

You're exactly right! When I asked a CM there she said it's because the barber shop is supposed to be turn of the century, when he was president.

  16. Wednesday was a Magic Kingdom day and we were there for rope drop.

    This morning's parking reminder.

    n34rLKUl.jpg

After we cleared security we had a little debate about ferry vs monorail. The kids wanted to take the monorail (no surprise there!) so that's what we did.

The kids decided that they wanted to do Space Mountain at park opening so we waited by Tomorrowland Terrace. Apparently this isn't a very popular place to wait, but I thought it was great. There was a place to sit, and a bit of air conditioning from the restaurant. I think there might even have been shade. I marked our waiting point with the red circle. The more popular place where everyone else waited I marked with a yellow circle.

    Xi0ZSxHl.jpg

When the CMs dropped the rope we headed straight to Space Mountain and I think we weren't any worse off.

We got in line for Space Mountain and then noticed that Stitch had come out. One of my nephews is a big Stitch fan so kid and his Dad went and got some pictures taken with Stitch. Stitch had fun playing with the ears on the kid's Stitch hat. :)

    vXXeNYVl.jpg?1

They rejoined us in line and it became obvious that the line wasn't moving and something might be wrong. A CM came out and let the line know that the attraction was down and would maybe be back up in about half an hour. I told the guys to go do the People Mover and I would hold their spot in line. Of course, Murphy's Law being what it is, not long after they got on the People Mover, the Space Mountain line started moving. I got to the front... no boys. So I went to the back of the line... Made it to the front of the line again but still no boys. So I went to the back of the line again. This time they made it!

I can do Space Mountain once and it's easier if I'm in the very front. Look - I'm already braced and we've barely even started. My BIL is a bit more relaxed...

    1vHto9Ol.jpg?1

After Space Mountain the boys did some more pin trading in the gift shop, then we headed over to Buzz. We waited in line much longer than I would have preferred, but we were already kind of committed by the time we figured out that the posted wait time wasn't accurate.

I really suck at getting a high score on this ride. I never know where it's actually aiming and which of those little red dots is mine. Suffice to say the lower score of the two was me, and the other was a nephew.

    1pKGa2rl.jpg

While we were on Buzz I got an email from Disney letting me know that my 10:15 - 11:15 am FastPass for Peter Pan had been modified because the attraction was down. The boys were pretty happy about this because they weren't really keen on riding Peter Pan anyway, and this gave them an extra FastPass for something else they'd rather ride. Score!

We went to the Lunching Pad and the kids got a cream cheese pretzel to share. We split up after this - BIL and one kid, me and the other kid. The kid I took had a date with the Harmony Barber Shop. We went there by way of a stroll through the Emporium. I'm always on the lookout for light weight, long sleeved, zip up hoodies. I always have one with me when I'm at the  parks - they're just so useful for either staying warm in overzealously air conditioned spaces, or sitting on for padding/heat protection. This one caught my eye.

    97Uchm0l.jpg

I would have bought it but... I would have preferred all skulls and no Minnie, it had sparkles (I'm anti-sparkle), and it was $55 which sure seemed like a lot - especially when converted to Canadian.

We had a bit of a wait before it was our turn at the Harmony Barber Shop so we had time to look at the decorations. Anybody know who the guy on the right is? I'll let people answer and I'll post it if nobody gets it.

    VJEfFaHl.jpg

It was really crowded in that tiny little space and this is part of the reason why...

    3PGu2Nbl.jpg

There was like 7 people waiting and then watching this one little kid get a haircut.

Did you know you can go into the Harmony Barber Shop and get some pixie dust put in your hair and then leave? I saw a few people come in and get some sprinkles put on and then leave - no haircut. It appears to be free. I'm a party pooper and would hate to have sparkles getting all over everywhere. With my luck I'd get them in my eyes.

After the haircut, the kid and I went to the Jungle Cruise. iPad photographer!

    M533JtEl.jpg

I'd made us an ADR for the Liberty Tree Tavern for lunch so we rejoined my BIL and kid there. You can read about the food we had here.

When at Disney we like to look out for CMs with the same name and get a picture taken. The CM who took us to our table was also a Wendy and she was happy to have a picture taken with me.

    MD9LFH1l.jpg

After lunch we split up again, same as before. BIL and kid were doing the Pirate's Adventure thing, and I took the haircut kid over to BTMRR - he used the Peter Pan FastPasses (mine and his) to ride BTMRR twice. It's his favorite ride. I waited for him near the exit of the ride and a PhotoPass photographer showed up and was taking pictures of people after the ride. I made sure the kid got his picture taken too.

I forget where the kid and I were going to go after this, but it was just about time for Festival of Fantasy to start up so we knew it was going to be tricky to get around. Fortunately I picked TCD's brain before this trip and knew just what to do. (Thanks TCD!)

This is the FoF parade as seen from the waiting room of the CBJ. It was perfect! Bench to sit on right in front of the window, sweet sweet air conditioning, no crowd, and you can see/hear everything just fine.

    1ybGemZl.jpg

Once the parade was over since we were already at CBJ we decided to go in. We got seated and just as the show was about to start, BIL and kid showed up and joined us. The CM working this attraction was on fire and VERY funny. He made lots of great jokes and got the audience really into it. I made note of his name (Ben) so I could swing by City Hall.

We had a Splash Mountain FP so headed there next. We debated about who had to sit on the right hand side since you often get wet at the waterfall towards the end. I said I'd take one for the team and sit there. As it turned out I didn't get wet from that waterfall but I did get wet from some other random jet. It's hard to tell from this picture but the right side of my shirt is just drenched. It took a long time to dry out, even in August.

    pERON0ml.jpg

The PhotoPass pictures of me on this ride are always funny. I'm always screaming my head off. I think the one kid put his hat in front of his face because he was afraid of getting his face wet.

    ZGoZxiYl.jpg?1

Since the kid had done a bunch of the Pirate's Adventure thing, he'd netted 4 FastPasses for Pirates so we decided to cash them in. This was their first time riding it since the PhotoPass picture was added. I told them in advance where/when it would take the picture. I put on my best cheezy grin.

    uB8Vlk2l.jpg?1

After Pirates we split up again, only this time we swapped kids. The kid who'd done the Pirate's Adventure thing wanted to complete the rest of the maps, so that's what we did. If you haven't done the Pirate's Adventure before it's pretty neat if you can spare the time. It's a bit like the Agent P adventure at Epcot. They give you a map with a starting point and you zap your MagicBand and things happen, then they tell you to go to the next point and do the same. I did all of them when I was on my solo trip back in January. One of the points that wasn't working in January was working this time around and it surprised the heck out of me! It gave us a good laugh.

    SwfgTM8l.jpg

    xIUFSVMl.jpg

After we finished the last Pirate map and got the final set of collector cards and Pirate's FastPasses it started to rain a bit so we sat on a bench near the Tiki Room to plan our next steps and discovered somebody had left their cellphone behind. I picked it up and took it across to the CM who was wrangling strollers near Pirate's and fortunately the owner of the phone was standing right there, having relocated to take shelter from the rain. Talk about instant satisfaction for returning a lost item! I was pretty sure she was telling the truth - there was a Tesco card in the phone's case and they had the British accent to match. :)

Since we were so close to the Tiki Room I convinced the kid to go in with me. By the time we got out the rain sprinkles had passed and we decided we couldn't pass up the opportunity to get a Dole Whip. I asked for two vanilla swirl but somehow ended up with just two regular Dole Whip. Oh well - even non-swirl Dole Whip is still Dole Whip!

    c0TNcZbl.jpg

We'd used up our 3 FPs so I think I made us one same-day FP for MILF. The kid and I started heading towards Tomorrowland with stops along the way for pin trading. We must have stopped inside the Christmas shop because I took this depressing picture.

    nWNz0nml.jpg

When we went in to get seated for MILF I tried to get us positioned so that my BIL could be "That Guy". We were so close! The guy to my left got to be That Guy (and he was a good sport about it) but at least my BIL still got picked to be Churros guy.

    LWK1gQAl.jpg

We were starting to get peckish after this and the kids like the toppings bar at Cosmic Ray's so that's where we went next. I did mobile ordering again.

    QE9Mqp9l.png

I think I'd managed to make us a Haunted Mansion FP so we went there after Cosmic Ray's. Again we had another fantastic CM. He was very in character and really made it special. In the stretch room he stood in one spot and then as soon as it went pitch black for the thunder/lightning/noose part, he quickly relocated and stood really close right behind someone so when the lights came back on she got quite the scare. It was great fun and she got a good laugh. By the time we were exiting our Doom Buggy he was working the exit so I asked him, "What's your name?" and he pointed at his name tag that said Chris, but he explained "I'm really Callum". I said, "Thanks Chris Callum!"

We'd done enough by this point so started heading for the exit. I stopped at City Hall to thank Ben at CBJ and Chris/Callum at HM. I drove us all back to the time share.

Not as many steps this day as it felt like.

    f8yOInFl.png

My sister had spent the day at the condo while we were gone and my first order of business when I got back was... putting chair socks on the legs of the chairs!

    vvYf1DXl.jpg

You probably think I'm crazy (and you're not far wrong) but I've stayed at this place several times before and the chairs they have at the kitchen table are very heavy, and they're on a tile floor. So every time you move the chair in/out it makes a lot of noise and makes me crazy. (And I'm sure the people on the floor below aren't too fond of it either.) So I got my Mom to knit enough chair socks for 7 chairs. She likes using up the tail end of yarn to make these, so of course they're a mixture of colors. A single one doesn't take long to make and she can do them while riding in the car or whatever. She's made me some for home too. My Mom is great!

The kids wanted to go swimming but my sister didn't want to go down with them so I said I'd go. While the kids were playing in the pool I was just sitting on a lounge chair playing on my phone... and watching these critters at the nearby garbage can buffet.

    ddQXiYll.jpg

There were 3 or 4 of them that kept going into the garbage can to see what they could find. The one in the picture above has one of those plastic trays for fake orange cheese and nacho chips. They weren't shy at all.

On specific instructions from my sister about when to have them back, I rounded up the kids and we went upstairs and called it a night. And that was Wednesday.

  17. 18 minutes ago, Tri-Circle-D said:

My recollection of the AKL Club Level Lounge is that the concierge has a desk in the lounge, but there are no doors to guard.

Yes, you have to use your MagicBand to get to the club level (after you zap your MagicBand in the elevator it auto-selects the right floor) and there is a concierge desk after you exit the elevator.

  18. I drove us all back to AKL. Even though my sister and family had to check out that day, they still had use of the facilities until the end of the day and that included the club lounge. I went up with the boys and saw someone there with a drink I knew I had to have.

    i0KGxAOl.jpg?1

That is a jungle juice mimosa! One of the many perks of club level is free beer, wine... and jungle juice mimosas. It was tasty but WOW did it ever go straight to my head after being out in August heat.

The kids went swimming and I sat poolside and watched for a while. I also took this picture because I was trying in vain to make a slide rule joke. As if anyone uses slide rules anymore.

    lUiuLQyl.jpg

Around 6:15 I headed back to AK - I had a FP for Rivers of Light and also wanted some dinner. The later you arrive, the further away your parking.

    Eur2Okdl.jpg

I looked on MDE to see if there were any tempting ADRs for 1 person available, but ultimately I decided I'd just hang out at the Nomad Lounge. You can read about my food here. I thought I could sit outside to eat but decided it was far too hot to be comfortable, so I sat inside at the bar. Chatted a bit with the barman who is from England and says "taco" the same way my husband does (Taa-co rather than Tah-co). Also talked a bit with some guys from Vegas (is anyone actually from Vegas?) who said they'd spent a year in Toronto and loved it.

My BIL and nephews came back to AK by bus and swung by the Nomad Lounge while I was there and we yakked for a bit, but then they left to do their FP.

One of the things I had on my to do list for AK was: "As you cross the bridge after leaving Kali River Rapids, there are buttons that can be pressed to deploy the elephants to spray guests on the ride. Just remember…what goes around comes around!" so I headed over to KRR to see about that. Sure enough I found the spot and the buttons.

    yqBzz0Il.jpg

    (Not my hand.)

I hung out on that bridge and watched the rafts come and go - and watched lots of other people pressing the button. I think I rode KRR once in 1999 but not since then.

Just before 8 I headed to my ROL FP viewing area.

    Z0SKjXGl.jpg

When I zapped my MagicBand the woman with the reader said, "Happy birthday!" which was interesting because a) I wasn't wearing a birthday button, and b ) it wasn't my birthday (yet) and c) I had no idea that it would display that on their screens. The Mouse really does know all.

It was a pretty sunset. And a hot night. (Weird pano of the seating area.)

    KbBzgBA.jpg

As I mentioned in my Nomad Lounge food post, the FP seating area is on stone benches. Wow did the stone ever hold onto the August sun's heat! I had well toasted buns by the time the show was over. I was glad I had my thin zip up hoodie to sit on.

And you know those dispensers of insect repellant they have scattered around? The people sitting in front of me availed themselves of some of it... then grabbed onto their Disney Parks shopping bag... that promptly shed its blue ink ALL OVER one woman's hands. She looked as blue as a Na'vi. I had a few wet naps in my purse so offered them to her, which she gladly accepted. It took some of the blue off, but I bet she could still have convincingly posed for Photo Pass pictures as a Na'vi until she got to proper soap and water.

They had people selling $3 bottles of water in the stands but I bet they could have made a killing selling Mickey bars. I would have done anything for ice cream that night but had nobody to hold my spot in order to go get one.

ROL was an interesting show and I'm glad I went to see it but I can't see getting the same emotional attachment to it as say MSEP or Wishes.

When the show ended I went back over to see Pandora at night. I didn't bother trying to take any photos - I knew my phone would do a lousy job. It was quite crowded and I didn't stay long. I headed out of the park and to the parking lot. Instead of waiting for a tram I just walked to my car. It was a fantastic symphony of car horns as a large group of people all tried to find their rental cars at the same time.

Here was the day's AK step count. 13.77 km is about 8.5 miles.

Tomorrow (Wednesday) is a Magic Kingdom day with the BIL and nephews.

    1) I need to look into the benefit of buying one large gift card when you're traveling in from the great white north. I'm a finance guy and love knowing the angles.

I haven't really done the math here but I know that credit cards don't exactly use favorable exchange rates (well... favorable to THEM but not so much to me) so my logic is that one transaction of $100 is going to be better than 10 transactions of $10 when buying things like Dole Whip, cream cheese pretzel, quick serve lunch, etc.

Love your ride selection in MK and AK...  I see no need to submit myself to abuse by engineers that design thrill rides since turning 35 nearly a decade ago.

I think we're the same age!

The photos are now hosted with flickr. Should be able to view them now.

I see them now - thanks! And yes, a totally different viewing experience.

  20. Our plan for Tuesday was Animal Kingdom. None of us had been since Pandora opened. My sister and family had to check out of AKL that morning so that was my sister's task for the morning since she wasn't coming to the parks with us.

I picked up the 3 boys (BIL & 2 nephews) at AKL and we drove to AK.

Here's this morning's parking reminder - taken just a bit before 8 am. Park was scheduled for 9 am opening.

    QrNaaPGl.jpg

We cleared bag check without any problem and I got in the tapstile line off to the left. Apparently the boys had some kind of ticket that required activation before they could use it. (Don't ask me.) So they stood in the ticket line and got that sorted out. Once they rejoined me in line we had a discussion about whether it was better to stay in the line we were in or go through the Rainforest Cafe and enter there. The crowd behind us was growing. One of the kids went off on a reconnaissance mission and reported back that there was nobody in there, so we abandoned our line and went to the Rainforest Cafe tapstile and the good news is that sure enough we were the only ones there. The bad news was that while we were relocating, the tapstiles had been opened up and people were flooding into the park. Oh well.

We joined the herd who were all going to the same place. No need to wonder where you're going - just follow the crowd ahead of you. In short order we were queued up on the bridge to Pandora. As has been reported by others... it's HOT and stuffy. I was glad I had my little fan. I had a couple of these and they were great. Well worth the price when you're at Disney in August. This isn't a great picture but you get a rough idea of the size of the crowd behind us.

    ULhrvVil.jpg

I don't remember how long we waited there - maybe 20 minutes? And then the crowd started moving forward. It was largely an orderly affair but wow some people sure get pushy. I just let them go ahead. We got to the fork where it's Navi River Journey one way and FoP the other way. Yeah... nobody was going to NRJ. The poor CMs tried their best to entice people. The line into FoP moved pretty quickly with the exception of people stopping to take pictures of the scenery. How many times have you seen this same picture?

    Asj52CZl.jpg

To give you an idea of our rope drop progress, I took this selfie at 8:54 am. Can you guess where it was taken?

    XAsdgMLl.jpg

Not a lot of visual clues there... But that's where I sat and waited at the chicken exit. I get motion sick pretty easily and despite lots of people along the way trying to encourage me to ride, I gave it a pass. The guys enjoyed it though. From here we went and did the Navi River Journey. There was a bit of a line but nothing very long. I think we entered the queue by about 9:10. Rope drop paid off. I didn't take any pictures (I wanted to experience it for the first time without my phone in the way) so don't have any to post. I thought the ride was... ok. I'd intentionally avoided any spoilers before going (no YouTube ride videos, etc.) so was going in without any particular expectations. It sure didn't knock my socks off, and there's no way I'd wait an hour for it. Meh.

We decided to do the Kilimanjaro Safari so headed in that direction by way of a bathroom break. Apologies to anyone who's eating while they read this but I couldn't resist taking a picture of this toilet. It looked to me like somebody had flushed a set of keys so it was cracking me up.

    BO6JVw6l.jpg

My BIL said, "wow it must have really hurt when they passed those keys!" We're easily amused, what can I say?

We didn't have a FP for the Safari but didn't have a long wait. This ride also makes my head a little woozy with all the rocking around so once is enough. I only took one picture and it was right at the very beginning. There's a photo from several years ago where we were doing a selfie in my row and my sister photobombed it from the row behind. Since my sister wasn't there this time, I asked a girl behind me, "can you please photobomb my picture?". She seemed surprised but obliged. Which begs the question, does it really count as a photobomb if you ask someone to do it? Probably not but I was amused anyway. Sorry for not posting it - I'm not comfortable posting pictures of my sister's kids. Not my kids, not my place to put them on teh internetz. It's blurry anyway.

After the Safari the kids wanted to do some pn trading at a nearby gift shop. I was amused by these little fans that make light up shapes when they're on. I tried to shoot a little video of it but it didn't really turn out.

We had a FP for Primeval Whirl so headed in that direction. You won't be surprised to hear that I gave this one a pass too, so one of the boys got to use my FP and ride a second time. I hung out in the "Chester & Hester's Dinosaur Treasures" gift shop instead for some sweet sweet air conditioning. The kids did some more pin trading here too. I was interested to note one CM working there who would ask a trivia question that you'd have to successfully answer before she'd show you the pins in her collection. She asked tough questions like, "Name one animal you've seen today."

The guys wanted to do Dinosaur after this and I decided I'd actually go on this one. I've done it once before so I knew what I was getting into. The posted wait time grew while we were standing in line so it was probably half an hour. In the ride photo I look mildly amused, but the kid in the front row sure isn't having a good time.

    0HGYnL7l.jpg

We split up after this - BIL and one kid went to Expedition Everest and took my MB and the other kid's MB so they'd could ride twice. The kid I took wanted to go back to the Pandora gift shop and I was hungry and wanted to go to the Satu'li Canteen, so that's where we went.

I liked this sign at the entrance to Pandora but I dared not try to take a picture of it at rope drop for fear of being trampled.

    GhgDjGhl.jpg

And the giant spitting flower thing was cool too. A kid can't resist getting flower spit on a hot day.

    dxLX5lGl.jpg

Satu'li Canteen was my first time seeing Mobile Order. The pickup area was deserted. That seemed very appealing so I fired up the app and ordered us some grub.

    WiJXU1Wl.png

Looks like only one other guy had the same idea.

    EFyfUDHl.jpg

Here's the blueberry mousse for the kid. It must have been good because I didn't even get to steal a bite! I wish I'd taken a picture of the inside.

    dtHzIyVl.jpg

And here are my steamed buns that I talked about here.

    jC3f9KCl.jpg

After this we headed over to the Pandora gift shop. I wish I'd taken more pictures here - like of the custom Navi barbie doll you can get made for something like $80. And those weird banshee shoulder puppet things. The appeal is certainly lost on me, but they sure know how to part people from their money. The kid found a pin he wanted so I went with him to the cash so we could use my AP discount. The cashier told him there's an AP-only pin as well and showed it to him. He liked it and asked if he could buy two - one for his brother. He's WAY nicer to his brother than I was to my sister at that same age. BIL and other kid finished with EE and met us at the Pandora gift shop (Windtraders). More pins were bought. They ate some sandwiches they'd packed and then we decided we'd had enough for now and we left.

Since you get to use the resort facilities all day on your check in and check out day, I took them back to AKL. We'll pick up there.

Here are a couple of photos of before totality and during totality. Wendinator, I will remove these if you prefer them not to be in your TR. Thanks

I'm happy to have them included, but I can't actually see them! Photobucket. :-(

Second:  Cream cheese pretzel?!  Didn't know about this; my husband would love that!  Is the cream cheese inside the pretzel??

Yes, there's a warm, sweet, cream cheese filling inside the pretzel. I like them a lot.

  22. I don't have the photos to prove it but my digital bread crumb trail tells me that I did the Laugh Floor after this (henceforth abbreviated as MILF - you've been warned). I probably did MILF 3 or more times on this trip and not once did I get the bit they used to do where they pick people from the audience to be Mike/Sulley/Randall/Boo. Do you remember that? Here's a picture I took in Aug 2015 because the guy in the row ahead of me was picked to be Mike (with one I) - you can see my arm and phone in the picture.

    xpuxcmHl.jpg

That one was a lot of fun. Now they only do the bit where they can tell you the capital of any country. I hope I just got unlucky on this trip and that the Mike/Sulley gag is still in rotation.

This is also a good point for me to talk about FastPass. Was it here where I read the trick about refreshing MDE? If it was then thank you because I used it several times successfully. Here's the short version. Say you want a FP for MILF at 4ish but all it will give you is 7ish. Book the 7 pm FP then go back and edit it and say you want to change the time. Keep refreshing until you see a time you like better. It may offer you 6:something. Take that, then edit again and keep refreshing. Before you know it you get the time you want. This even sometimes works for different attractions. Want Pirates but can't get it? Book Haunted Mansion, then edit. Boom. Pirates appears. I have no idea why/how this works but it does. I suspect I had good luck with this because I was searching for a party of 1. Your mileage may vary for parties of 2 and up.

From MILF I went to City Hall to tell them I thought Kasha was a great Jungle Cruise skipper. They always seem so happy to have someone giving them good news. I imagine most of their day is unhappy people. I was done with the MK for the day so took the monorail back to the TTC and drove to the GF.

I know not everyone is a fan of signature dining and think it's not worth the money,  but I made myself an ADR at Citrico's to take advantage of their 30% discount for AP holders. You can read about that dinner here.

While at the Grand Floridian I noticed they had some Halloween merchandise out. I don't think it was there the day before when I went for tea. Either way,  Halloween is my favorite holiday so I was enjoying the merch.

    dkZrkfkl.jpg

That was it for excitement for the day. I drove back to the time share and did some laundry for my sister. Here's what my Fitbit thinks I did as a step count. 11.37 km converts to a little over 7 miles.

    5jJhO0Sl.png

Tomorrow is my first park day with my BIL and kids. Stay tuned for rope drop at AK. My sister opted out of all our park stuff except for one.

  23. Thanks again to everyone for commenting and following along.

After the PeopleMover I headed over to the Carousel of Progress. I almost always sit in the same spot for this - all the way over to the right. I know that in COP they don't ask you to move all the way down to the end of the row to make space for everyone... but I usually do it anyway. Today I threw caution to the wind! So I got a better view of these folks instead.

    OIbPcPIl.jpg

I noticed either in the Lines app or on the park map that there was something called iCan that had an appearance in Tomorrowland coming up soon so I decided to hang around until that showed up... whatever it was. I think maybe TCD had mentioned it once before but I certainly hadn't heard a lot of buzz. Sure enough I found him/it.

    9btPv4dl.jpg

Looks a lot like my husband's razor only with a head.

    AX9cO14l.png?1

I didn't stick around long. Push was way better.

While in Tomorrowland I was intrigued to notice that the Express Transportation was still running. I thought it was closing down, which I guess it did not long after. (This was Aug 21.)

    5SxfmPul.jpg

I was close to the Lunching Pad so grabbed my favorite snack of a frozen Coke and a cream cheese pretzel and I  headed over to where the fireworks dessert party is (Tomorrowland Terrace) to sit and watch the world go by.

    KcBNHdDl.jpg

The only thing better than snack time is... Snack time with a view!

    SsGOFffl.jpg

I had a FP for 7DMT so I headed there next. I'm sure it's just my imagination but man is the queue for 7DMT ever LOUD! Maybe it was the large group ahead of me too. I had time to read the overhead monitors with the safety info. This part made me laugh.

    e4Vmrwpl.jpg

The ride wrangler asked how many in my party and I told them '1' so they put me with the large group in front of me and then we were herded right to the very front boarding area. When the next train pulled into the station the group started to board... and it was total chaos. To be honest, I'm not really sure what happened, but some people wouldn't get on, and then they changed their minds, and moved around, by which time my seat was gone and the ride operator was anxious to get the train rolling so they told me to just stay put. The next train pulled into the station and they told me to get on... essentially by myself. The ride operator said, "This will make for a great ride photo!" and he wasn't wrong!

    vohWCjil.jpg

    bCZwRFpl.jpg

Probably my favorite PhotoPass picture evah!

After this I did a little wandering and browsing.  I played a game of  "spot the Brits".

    DGUyU7Kl.jpg

There seemed to be a lot of Brits when I was there. My husband is from England and I love teasing him about how they don't have the sun in England. He doesn't even own a pair of shorts and has worn jeans at Disney in August before. (facepalm)

Saw some interesting shirts, but nothing that I actually bought.

    7KEPF2Hl.jpg

    y2BbMH3l.jpg

By now it was Festival of Fantasy parade time. I've seen it before so I didn't watch the whole thing, but by coincidence I happened to stop right near where there were 2 CMs doing the sign language for the parade song. I'd never seen that before and thought it was really cool.

It was pretty close to peak eclipse time. There were LOTS of photographers ready to capture it.

    muJAuSql.jpg

I wasn't sure the sky was going to cooperate.

    7Sa2BGIl.jpg

This photo was taken at 2:49 which I think is when the maximum eclipse was supposed to be in the Orlando area.

    gt584PEl.jpg

I  took it from the area near Sleepy Hollow. You can see... it's not all that dark. Frankly I didn't really see what the big deal was all about. I didn't have eclipse glasses so didn't look up but I sure saw lots of other people looking up both with and without glasses.

Went onto MDE and made myself a Small World FP. I'm guessing you guys were OK with the CBJ and Tiki Room but draw the line at iasw. Fortunately one of the many joys of being solo is there's nobody to stop me from riding iasw! Now I've been stuck on iasw before, so I always take this picture in order to give me a time stamp.

    Lwa3C4Bl.jpg

And I always take a winking hippo picture.

    SZwsDFel.jpg

I have the plush version at home. :-)

    maOHbTo.png

  24. Thanks for following along!

My sister and family were aiming to maximize their resort time (and were especially fond of club level) which meant I had the day to do with as I pleased. And I was pleased to do rope drop at MK.

I was at the TTC and in my parking spot just after 8 am. I took a picture of my parking row because I know otherwise I'll never remember.

    NmTV8CDl.jpg

This was my first time back at WDW since the security procedures changed, so that meant this was also the first time I went through security at the TTC. I think this distributed model works better than the centralized security at MK only. I didn't keep track but you know how sometimes after bag check they ask you to go through the metal detector as well? I swear on this whole trip there was only one time where they didn't ask me to go through the metal detector as well. But anyway.

I'm ferry people not monorail people and I was waiting for the ferry by 8:10.

    JPfCvdil.jpg

After an easy ferry ride and breezing through the tapstiles I was still pretty early so decided to stop for a PhotoPass photographer.

    wt93NzWl.jpg

Park didn't officially open until 9 so I went to the Emporium to get myself a gift card. As a Canadian it's a little easier on the credit card statement if you have one transaction of $100 onto a gift card rather than a bunch of little transactions. I had a tiny gift card that I got at Food & Wine a few years ago but my experience has been that the card is finicky when they swipe it so I decided a normal sized card would be better.

    qmO1qTPl.jpg

I got the one that looks most like my Miata. 🙂

Took this photo at 8:30. Looks like a nice day, eh?

    dP8jHT6l.jpg

You might also recall that today was the big eclipse day.

    anfbDqal.png

They had signs up about it at the park too.

    NNsWl1Fl.jpg

While waiting for the park to open I found a nice table and chair inside Casey's Corner. I didn't bother to watch the opening show - I'd seen it before and it's pretty disappointing compared to the old train station show. Finally the park was open! Any guesses where I went? Where would you go at rope drop...?

If you said Sleepy Hollow for a Nutella waffle... you win! My thrill ride days are largely behind me.

    5yThnc2l.jpg

Isn't it great to not have to share?

    yGNT7Val.jpg

Now that I'd started the day off right, I headed to Pirates. It was a walk-on (no surprise). This was my first time riding since they added the ride photo just before the drop. Either it wasn't working or it didn't link to my MagicBand because I didn't get the ride photo. After that it was over to Jungle Cruise for my first FP of the day. I got given a red card, which was pretty funny considering there was literally no wait so all I did was carry it from one CM to another.

    LGST5LDl.jpg

I was interested to note that the rhino is still being refurbed. But at least now instead of there being nothing at the totem pole there are hyenas. I wonder when the rhino is coming back.

    bDlEDF7l.jpg

I had a great skipper and I made a note of her name (Kasha) so I could swing by City Hall later. A good skipper makes all the difference with the Jungle Cruise, as you know. From here it was over to the Tiki Room. I know this isn't everyone's cup of tea but it always reminds me of my Mom singing along, and I like those singing totem poles so I always go at least once.

After the Tiki birds I saw a PhotoPass photographer who looked lonely so I chatted with him for a while and got him to do another magic shot.

    mpUUUxsl.jpg

By this time I was ready for my Haunted Mansion FastPass.

You know the part where it talks about the hot and cold running chills? And there's that cold fan that blows? Yeah, that's where I got stopped. (Sorry for the grainy, low light photos.)

    qiGwcdIl.jpg

    e6OOPIPl.jpg

Fortunately I had a light sweater with me and fortunately I wasn't there for too terribly long. And I guess there are worse places to be stuck?

There was another PhotoPass photographer as you leave the Haunted Mansion so of course I had to get a picture there too. For some reason I really struggled to make the hitchhiking thumb gesture the photographer wanted. He was probably questioning his career choice by the time he was done with me.

    CKiuXJcl.jpg

I wandered around the Tinkle Tower area a bit and went into Memento Mori. Also saw this great kid on a leash. I know nothing about kids, but thought he might be a little old for this...

    QVj0aNIl.jpg

From here it was over to Country Bear Jamboree. It must be my advancing years because I also have a soft spot for the Bears too. If you're interested at all in why the Bears are worth keeping give this a read.

    j7zKC0Xl.jpg

After the Bears I decided it was time for a train ride. When I was here in January and again in March the train was still closed for refurb. So I got on the train at Frontierland and took it just one stop over to Fantasyland.

    kygg8bll.jpg

As I was walking along the pathway towards Tomorrowland I noticed some scaffolding on the side of Space Mountain and saw they were painting.

    N506hiTl.jpg

I forget where I read it but somewhere I saw something that said, "Near the Tomorrowland Transit Authority and Astro Orbiter in Rockettower Plaza, there is a courtesy phone provided by the Galactic Communications Network. Pick it up and listen to some of their party line conversations! You’ll be able to find out what movies are playing nearby, find out which criminals are on the loose in Tomorrowland, and even “order” a pizza!"

The good news was that I found the phone thing.

    AM0oLMxl.jpg

The bad news was that it didn't actually do anything as far as I could tell. Fail.

But that's OK because PeopleMover time!

MDE even kindly reminded me about the eclipse in case I'd forgotten.
