  1. I put a male 3 prong plug in the "neck" and a  female 3 prong plug in the top of the 2" pipe so I can take head off in transport - had it come apart too many times!

If anyone is going to be at the fort next week, I'm bringing two bodyless mickey heads that have lights in the head and a led that shines down from "neck" - going to dress them up as ghosts...hopefully.

  2.

I've stayed at POP.  Those rooms are far from soundproof.  On the ground floor you can hear the most casual conversation of people walking by your door.  I'm betting if his kid really did say "childhood ruined" on her way out the door, someone would have heard it. Plus somehow I have a hard time believing this guy would react calmly and quietly to an incident like this as he's described it.

I've stayed at POP once - never again.  I like the peaceful night time feeling of the fort too much - it's just as loud at 11pm as it is at 11am there....good value, but I'd rather stay in a tent at FW.....too many Swindlers elsewhere.

  3. Welcome!

It's been my dream for years to stay at the fort over halloween.  We usually make it down every few years in mid-october for my Kid's fall break.  My youngest is now a Junior in HS and in two short years I will FINALLY get to stay at the Fort over Halloween - probably with no kids - now that I think about it, I guess that's a bit creepy...oh well.

    Hoping you get you ressie!

  4. There's a guy out there that has a FB page and web site called Polar Tubes.

I don't think he's selling anything, but has come up with this idea.

He measures his freezer, then his ice chests.

Cuts 2 inch diameter pcv that will fit into the freezer and his chest.  Glues and caps one end, fills the tube 80% with water so it has expansion, glues and caps the other end, then freezes the tubes.

The idea is that they fit into your specific chest, you can layer them between food as needed.

Sounds good, but pvc is kind of thick, and there isn't a lot of mass in the amount of water, so I would imagine it might melt quicker than say a gallon or 1/2 gallon jug?

    Has anyone tried this?

Also, I see Yeti sells 2 and 4 pound containers of that blue gel artificial ice.

Has anyone tried that, and does it last longer than a frozen milk jug?

I think the key here is once you get your cooler and the contents down to the temp you want, a milk jug or "ice tube" will do their best work to maintain.  In full disclosure, I do have a YETI - I've found over the years that the combination of Ice and water - not just ice alone - is the best way to maintain your cooler. Air is not nearly as good as water to transfer temps. So air between tubes or milk jugs won't be as good as adding some ice cold water to the mix.  Lazy man's way - dump extra ice in and voila, you have ice and WATER soon.  LOL.

Having been involved in scouting over the past 15 years, I've used Coleman coolers a LOT!  Don't have anything against them - work well for what they do.

  5. For a little over the past year, I've been a weekly road warrior - flying back and forth.  It always amazes me how some folks think being a total A$$ and bullying airline stewardesses, TSA, etc will get them anything other than MORE grief.  This guy strikes me right off the bat as one of those loudmouth better than you types that has driven a CM to their breaking point.  There is joking...and then there is intimidation.  Granted, he chose a poor choice of words, but Karma has a sneaky way of circling round and biting you in the butt!   :wedgietariant-smiley:

  6. Our DIL is flying from Memphis to camp with us at the Fort next month and I was curious to see if the Magical Express would be a good option to get her to the Fort rather than me having to juggle the logistics of getting to the Fort, setting up camp, and having to run back out to the airport while the rest of our group is ready to head to MK!

We will have her Magic Band with us, so I wasn't sure how this might work - I guess we could send it to her, but I wanted to reach out to the experts here to see if this option was worth considering.  Thanks!

  7. Once you decide what you want or need help deciding check our RV Outlet in Danville, VA.  They are the largest toy hauler dealer in the east and most likely in the US.  Their prices are unbelivable and they carry most brands new and used.  I got 2 quotes from them today and shared one of them with my local RV dealer from whom I have purchased my last 2 trailers from and he told me straight up that he could not touch the deal RV Outlet is willing to give me.  I used to be very loyal to a local dealer, but if someone can save me over $5000 for a RV and provide me good support I am willing to drive 7 hours to make the deal.

Just passing this along as this may be a good weekend trip for you and the family to take and explore all the options.

We've been there a couple of times and it true, they have great prices!   We ended up with a Grand Design Momentum, which they don't sell - but the Fuzion was next on my list!

  8. Well, we knew there was a chance of school activities trumping our plans......So, with much regret we will not be able to attend. Maybe next time.

Same here - just had to cancel.  Site 55 is now  open for that weekend if anyone would like to change.

At least its just a month till the FORT!

  9. We went from a 24 foot toyhauler to a 42' Inferno to a 39' Momentum 350.     The good news is a 39' toyhauler will be no longer than a 30' go 32' Travel Trailer setup.  The 42' was about 4K heavier and I can tell a difference in towing - the 39' is just right for my 3500 dually.  I would get a good GPS app or trucker app to help you go thru smaller towns.  We quickly ran into problems camping in our favorite spots from the 24' to the longer toyhaulers.  The tradeoff being a much more comfortable living space.

I don't think 3' is going to make much difference.  My Inferno was a triple axle and for me it was not as easy to jackknife or as manuverable as my dual axle Momentum. . The length really didnt' make a lot of difference. Get the one that suits your needs the best.  Weight does make a difference - if you can load more in the 39' you probably will. If the 36' fits your needs I would go that route.

When we bought our Momentum, we looked at the 42' 385TH and the 39' 350M.   We ultimately chose the 350M for exactly the reasons you are concerned about.  the 39' meet our needs, is lighter, and has been easier to tow.  That being said, be sure you are not losing a vital feature or ability to carry an item due to the 3' length. To me its more about weight that the length.

Hope this rambling helps!  Let me know if specific questions.  Be sure to measure your garage. Often times a 10' garage isn't actually 10' due to obstructions. You don't want your ATV, Cycle, or Golf Cart rubbing the walls!

  10. The dealer should help you set up your hitch height - barring some lift kit or the like, you will probably be fine.  I moved my B&W companion hitch from my Dodge 3500 to my Chevy 3500 with no need to change.

Get a lube plate - grease on a fifth wheel works, but is so messy and if you run into it (like I do), you will ruin countless shirts.  The dealer may have these in stock, or you can buy online for under $20 bucks.

Tailgate - I've never had a notched one - just remember to lower and raise. Bigger issue with a long bed than a short bed.  My tailgate wouldn't hit on my longbed hitching up as long as I'm not at an angle. I still make sure I close it after the pin box is in the bed area.  If you are full timing, I'd probably get a notched tailgate - I'm lazy!

I'd bring a breaker bar and the correct socket to fit your lug nuts on the FW - if its a heavy duty model, the standard tire changing fare may not cut it.  If its a lightweight, you probably will be fine with what you have.

I've downloaded a trucker app on my iPhone to help with routes - my fiver is right at 40' so sometimes going thru regular gps instructions isn't ideal.  There are quite a few of these apps - search the forums here for some discussions or at rv.net

Surge protector is something I'd think about - 50amp service is a bit bigger deal than 30amp and with all the electronics on RV's these days, it's cheap insurance.

Towing a FW is MUCH easier than a TT - they do handle and back differently.  Rule of thumb I use is to pull up a length farther than I would with a TT as it won't start turning as quickly as a bumper pull - but when it does turn, you can really move it around.  If there are some empty camping spots at the campground, practice backing in a few different ones with a spotter.  Cones in a parking lot works too.  When a semi passes you and you don't have a whisper of sway - you will get a BIG smile on your face!   Congrats on your new RV!

  11. My youngest son had the opportunity to spend 3 weeks in Germany this past Spring with a family as part of an exchange program and had a fantastic time.  As part of the program, their son is coming here to stay with us for 3 weeks this fall.  it just happened to fall during our October trip to the FORT!  We are going to bring him with us and he (and my son) are big Harry Potter fans, so Universal will be a must do, but we were already planning on doing Mickey's not so scary H'ween Party.  They don't do Halloween in Berlin, so this should be interesting, to say the least.

Keeping in mind that we only have a week, 3 days will probably be spent at Universal, 1 at MK, but what would you think would be a must do to share with our German exchange student?  We're thinking about trying to do the Epcot Food and Wine to give him a chance to try out some different foods, but I can't imagine someone from Europe hasn't tried more international fare that I have!

So what are some MUST DO's for him while we are there?  Both of the boys are upper teens (15-17) and my DIL will be with us - she's a real Disney Princess and hasn't been back to DW since my son proposed to her at midnight in front of Cinderella's castle (I know, yuk, right!?) :faceplant2:

  12. I don't think it would be too much - but I would divide it up to focus on one or two parks a lot on each trip with ample fort days.  At your girls ages, I'd say go for it.  When they hit those Teen years, they may want to do something else.  Do Magic Kingdom a LOT first trip, Studios the 2nd, etc.

We go down about every Fall  (Halloween Horror nights for Dad)  - be great if we could coordinate next fall. I think TN22 will be going down next fall also.

Back in the days when you could buy "Never Expire" tickets, we dropped what I thought was a ridiculous amount on 10 day passes - and used those passes for about 5 vacations in total. We went to Orando EVERY year (still do), but we would only spend 1-2 days at Disney and do something else like Universal, etc as well.  Shame we can't still get them!
