  1. Cumberland Island, Ga - went Wilderness camping with the Boy Scouts...lots of bugs, wild horses, no electricity or running water and miles of deserted beaches.  You can do a day trip and see the ruins of rockefeller mansions without camping. It's on the St Mary's exit on the GA/FL line...so can be done on way to FW!

Myrtle Beach, SC - everyone should go to the Redneck Riviera at last once!!!

DC, NYC, Nashville, Williamsburg are all great places.

I wish I could say I've taken them out west, but that may have to wait for grandkids!

  2.

    2) I'm also wondering if renting a golf cart could easily offset the fridge option, and it would be easy to just go and get a quart of milk, or eggs, or meat, or fresh vegetables each day we were cooking at our site.

First off,    :welcome2:  and imho, a Golf Cart ALWAYS wins....yes you can run and get food, and its too much fun to "loop" - ride around and check out the Fort!  Tent camping in the Fort in August is definitely not for the faint of heart.  With a cart, nothing is more than 5 minutes away.

Golf cart gets you around and a ridge will keep food cold......lol. Also I believe a golf cart would win vs a fridge :)

    Always!

where has all the snarkyness gone?  Nobody responds to my post anymore.  I must be alienated again...lol  This place is getting too serious

    Nanner Nanner Boo Boo... :SnarkyGCT:

  3. My main problem is I have to cancel my airline reservations within 15 days of arrival to not have to lose $850 in tickets-

I've been quiet, but I have to point out that alliegant flies out of knoxville to Sanford nonstop for $191 round trip - so less than 400 for two and apply the extra $$ to said preferred site ?

Lurkers - I know you are lurking and I want to point out that the folks on this site merely want your friendship or fiendship as it were. Meaning if you spend any time on this board, you'd know that TCD sounds like he always does - his TR's are a whimsical cornucopia of blunt observation and tongue in cheek. Friendship means you share- your pictures, stories, and you take the time to get to know the folks here. Go back and read the origins of this board. You will not find a nicer bunch of folks. But they will be quick to call BS - as friends do for each other.

I've learned rhino faces, not to hate the Gators quite as much, can't wait for an Anna hug someday, and actually want to put faces and people for names. You have to share...not take.

And as my daddy always said... You get more bees with honey than vinegar....

Admins- delete if not appropriate place or time.

  4. We have stayed in the Royal Pacific and the Hard Rock - haven't tried the new Cabana Bay resort or the Portofino.   I'll use Disney metaphors....

Hard Rock - Contemporary - the closest to the Universal Studios.  Can take a boat ride to Islands of Adventure.  Swimming pool has rock music you can hear underwater.  Louder and more for the young at heart.

Royal Pacific - Wilderness Lodge - more low key, walking distance to Islands of Adventure, bit farther away than Hard Rock tho - we usually used the boats.

Portofino - Beach Club - very cool theming, near the Hard Rock and a bit farther away from Universal Studios - has boat and walking access.

Cabanas - pick any all stars resort - shuttle bus access primarily.  It does have walking access but you are the farthest away. and it is on the Islands of Adventure side.  Think 50's Vegas styling.

We prefer the Royal Pacific...not as expensive as Hard Rock (expensive tho!) - Depending on which park they will visit most (Islands of Adventure or Universal Studios) may help them choose.  If they want the most themed immersion that Universal Offers (nothing like Disney) - the Portofino might be their choice.  Farther away from the action and quieter.
