Two pics from Fantasyland this morning. The first is on the bridge leading to the new restaurant (not yet open but you can peak inside) and the second is from the Arielle clamshell ride.

The next batch of attractions is scheduled to open by the end of the year. They are the princess laden "Enchanted Forest", which will include the "Under the Sea, Voyage of the Little Mermaid" ride

And that's the way it should stay!!!

Update today from WDW Magic. To view enlargements of the photos, follow the link to the full article at the end.

PHOTOS - New aerial views of the Fantasyland construction site

Mar 15, 2011

Here is our latest aerial look at the new Fantasyland construction site including a look at the former Mickey's Toontown Fair which has now largely been demolished. A huge thank you as always to Scott Keating for providing these spectacular shots. For more information on the Fantasyland expansion, head to our FAQ on this page.

To be filed in the "rumors from Screamscape" category...

(3/23/11) Despite the concept artwork released to date, Screamscape has heard it said before, and once again now, that the Seven Dwarves coaster will mostly be an outdoor ride. I?ve also heard that it may not be ready to open until 2014 right now, though these kind of things are subject to change.

Fantasyland Expansion Update

Snow White's Mine Train ride has been pushed back until 2014. This was not unexpected as it was late to the planning and will sit on land that is currently occupied, in part, by Dumbo and the main Fantasyland walkway. Recent peaks at the model for the attraction reveal that most of the ride will be outdoors with only a couple of indoor scenes, presumably where the audio-animatronic figures will be. While, the Mine Train ride looks to be a crowd pleaser, it's later opening means Fantasyland will be without a Snow White attraction for an extended period once the current ride goes down for its makeover into a meet & greet location.

Construction in the former Toon Town Fair area is moving ahead at a rapid pace. The expanded Dumbo and re-themed Goofy coaster are expected to be the first two attractions to open in the new Fantasyland. As soon as the new foundation is ready for the twin-spinners, the existing Dumbo will go down for refurbishment and a move to its new location. Meanwhile the new spinner will be installed. The Great Goofini will re-open with its new theme and the loading and unloading sizes of the queue switched to make more room for Dumbo's second ring.

Construction permits and bids were sent out this week to refurbish the two remaining tents from Toon Town Fair. It's a bit ironic that the lands 'temporary buildings' are the only ones that will make it into the new land. The old tents will be replaced with new sturdier materials. I'm still hearing rumors that the larger tent will be converted into stage show, but that seems unlikely if all they're doing is re-skinning the existing frames. We'll probably just get a new store there.

I'm not all that thrilled with the idea of StoryBook Circus as a theme. But I guess we'll wait and see how Disney pulls it off. I'd love for them to bring a version of the StoryBook Canal Boats to Florida (with a long indoor air-conditioned section) or a version of the Little Mermaid section from Tokyo DisneySea but with more of a 'storybook' feel.

Rock work has begun on the outside of the Be Our Guest restaurant and exterior walls are going up in the village area that will house Gaston's Pub. The Little Mermaid attraction is rumored to be ahead of schedule, plus they get the benefits of the California Adventure version of the attraction opening first. Hopefully any pitfalls and wrinkles related to installation will be ironed out before Orlando's version is ready.

Finally, the Prince and Princess bathrooms located next door to Peter Pan will be moved across the walkway to where the old Fantasyland Skyway station now sits. These new larger bathrooms will allow Peter Pan's queue to expand into the old bathroom's space and gain some interactive elements to help pass the inevitable long waits for the stand-by queue. Additionally, the a new pathway will help with the crowds in that area. However, I have no idea what they plan to do with all the strollers that are usually parked in that location.

A photo update from Attractions Magazine...

Photo Finds: Fantasyland update, Haunted Mansion interactive secrets and more from the Magic Kingdom

Apr 42011 Filed under: Disney, Magic Kingdom Posted by: Matt Roseboom

By Don Gworek

concept.jpg

I visited Disney?s Magic Kingdom this past Saturday to bring you these updates. Take notice of the yellow arrows added to Disney?s concept art above, as you?ll see the actual photos of these areas below.

beast1.jpg

Here?s a look at the western end of the upcoming Be Our Guest restaurant. Note the rock work forms to the left.

rockwork.jpg

This is a close-up of the rock work forms in that area.

workers.jpg

Workers continue to assemble the roof structure in that area.

smallhouse.jpg

The roof line of Gaston?s Tavern, on the other side of the Be Our Guest complex.

dumbo1.jpg

This may be the start of the castle wall framing that will run through Fantasyland.

ariel.jpg

The structure of the facade for the Little Mermaid attraction is also continuing to grow.

forest.jpg

The forest is also growing. Right now, these add visual comfort to guests. Trees are always welcome backdrops, and although these don?t provide shade, the area does seem cooler. These trees will probably be planted in their final locations within a year, and become the forest of the new Fantasyland area.

facade2.jpg

The area beyond the fence here used to be thick with trees. This is the new Storybook Circus tent area.

gooftini.jpg

The view of what will soon be called The Great Gooftini roller coaster. It used to be Goofy?s Barnstormer.

BREAKING NEWS: The Beast's Castle takes shape!

Thursday, April 07, 2011 | Posted by OTPN administrator | Edit Post

We usually don't publish two updates in one day, but this news is worth it.

Today, we visited the Magic Kingdom, and went as usual to check the work on the new Fantasyland area.

To our surprise, there were some nice, new details, including one that could be defined as "major": the Beast's Castle has received its first real walls, with two small castle towers!

Sorry folks - the photos were too huge to post here.  Follow the link - some really great pics!!

Beast's Castle rises in the new Fantasyland expansion

Apr 09, 2011

Beast's Castle can now be seen rising over the top of the Fantasyland expansion at the Magic Kingdom. So far, all of the visible work on the expansion has been structural steel and infrastructure, but today that changed with the first piece of detailed theming to be on display. A good portion of Beast's Castle can now be seen from most of Fantasyland, as it sits perched on-top of what will become a rocky mountain side. A lot of the steel under-pinnings of the rock-work structure are already in place beneath the castle.

It's obviously very much still a work in progress, but there is already a considerable amount of detail to be seen here. Head to the photos below and click the thumbnails for a closer look. There is also a closeup of the concept art for this area to give an idea of where this is heading when it's completed.

A New Castle Emerges at Magic Kingdom Park

posted on April 11th, 2011 by Jennifer Fickley-Baker, Social Media Manager

Hi everyone. Today, we have a thrilling update for those of you who are excited to see the expansion of Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom Park come to life.

A New Castle Emerges at Magic Kingdom Park

Walt Disney Imagineers are currently piecing together the Beast?s castle, which will sit high atop what will become the Be Our Guest Restaurant. The ?Beauty and the Beast?-inspired restaurant, which is set to open in late 2012, will offer a lavish dining experience in the castle?s elegant ballroom, gallery and mysterious ?west-wing.? The restaurant and castle will eventually be flanked by Gaston?s Tavern, Bonjour! Village Gifts, and the cottage of Maurice (Belle?s father).

Be sure to check the Disney Parks Blog later this week for some exclusive photos of WDI?s progress.

The New Fantasyland Coming to Magic Kingdom Park

The castle construction is a major milestone in the expansion, which will nearly double the size of Fantasyland and include several new attractions, such as Under the Sea ? Journey of the Little Mermaid, The Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, and enhanced versions of the existing attractions, Dumbo the Flying Elephant and Barnstormer.

The expanded Fantasyland is scheduled to open in phases, beginning in late 2012.

Beast?s Castle rises in Fantasyland at Disney?s Magic Kingdom

Beast?s Castle, which is to sit high above the mountains in the Fantasyland expansion at the Magic Kingdom, is now visible. There?s still some towers to be added and some paint work to be done, but it?s the first sign of what?s to come.

These close up views show the detail in the new mountain-top castle. Arrows point to details seen only in extreme zoom, like cornices on windows and gold eagles on top of columns at the doors.

This view shows the castle supported in mid-air. Rock work forms will soon be added underneath both the castle proper and the fortress walls.

Another view, framed by the current location of the Dumbo ride.

Rockwork forms are to the far left. Soon the entire green show building walls will also be covered in rockwork forms, perching the castle high on top of a mountain in a technique called forced perspective. Inside the show building will be the Be Our Guest restaurant.

The red arrow in this concept artwork points to the mountain top castle.

Nearby, the first concrete for the Storybook Circus show building is now visible. More concrete forms have been added for other walls of the building.

getting a little confused - we are going in July - will Dumbo be open?  I can't tell if they are working on that or not - I thought they were adding to it, right?

I'm showing it operating in July.

Thanks!  DD is into Dumbo these days and has been talking about riding it again.

Awesome pics of the construction!!!  Keep 'em coming! :yourock:

More updates from the Disney Parks blog...

posted on April 13th, 2011 by Jennifer Fickley-Baker, Social Media Manager

Today, we?re happy to present a backstage look at the creation of Beast castle at Magic Kingdom Park, a huge milestone in the Fantasyland expansion.

[img'>http://parksandresorts.wdpromedia.com/media/disneyparks/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/qwe597423SMALL.jpg

In response to Monday?s post, many of you asked how tall the new castle is, or if it would even distract from the view of Cinderella Castle (this shot was taken from the queue at Dumbo the Flying Elephant). Well, the next few photos should put your mind at ease. As you can see, Beast?s castle actually uses forced perspective architecture to make the structure look more grandiose in size than it appears in reality.

sid697532SMALL.jpg

Forced perspective works as sort of an optical illusion, tricking the eye into believing a structure is much larger or taller than it really is. This is done by manipulating the size and scale of a building, based on the perspective it will be viewed from.

css596753SMALL.jpg

The company?s use of forced perspective started with Walt Disney during the construction of Disneyland park in California. At that time, Walt paid special attention to the scale of each building, as well as the specific shrubs and trees that flanked them in order to create the best sense of height and drama.

uit697743SMALL.jpg

As you can see in this comparison between the artist rendering and the current construction, the castle sits high atop what will be the Be Our Guest Restaurant, which is really the gateway to the castle?s interior. Here, the restaurant will offer quick-service lunches and table-service dinners inside the Beast?s elegant ballroom, gallery and eerie ?west-wing.? The construction to the far left will become Maurice?s Cottage.

Word on the street is that WDI is preparing a video tour of the area for our Disney Parks Blog readers. More to come on this next week.]
