After great gnashing of teeth and dithering over different styles, 'must haves' & 'want to haves', PureTCrazy & I have decided that the Outback 29KBH is the 'perfect fit' for us.  We have found a used 2009 and now I'm here wanting input about this camper.  Pros, Cons. what-have-yous.  Let it fly and hit the fan.

Here's the floor plan:

p.s. There has been a Cupcake mod to the upper rear bunk.  It's no longer a bunk, now it's a shelf so an adult won't knock them self's out trying to get in or out of the lower bunk.  There is also a professional job rerouting the bunk light to the head of the lower bunk.

This one has the rear ladder to the roof, electric hitch, aluminum rims, new tires (and spare) - they are Mission's if that makes a difference, and probably a few other things I failed to mention.

The only thing w/ the side ramp is that some times it's hard to unload.  The "thanks for your service" should have ended w/ Comrade.  Life member VFW Post 5302 in Illinois and retired military.

We had the potential salesman demonstrate.  He said he had only done it a couple of times with other toy haulers, but he didn't seem to have issues ... taking his time.  It IS a tight fit, and I would definitely want to practice loading and unloading a good bit to feel comfortable with it.  We would have to use a folding rear step for it it fit - a fixed rear step is too much for it (but the ones they had were fairly large ...).

I was a member of our local Post until it folded due to lack of membership.  Now (and even back then I was) I am a life member of the DAV.  No local for that either.  I am in the boondocks.  Some time this summer we are getting the County's very first fast food - a Subway.  Walmart?  That's almost an hour's drive to the closest one

Our RV has the bed in the back corner. It is a pain for hubby who sleeps up against the wall getting out over me. Especially after numerous adult beverages.

Your bathroom looks more roomier than ours, but you may want to check if there is good supports for getting in/out of shower and on/up from toliet. Ours lacks those. Ie very very tight bathroom.

Good luck!

Ed a folding footrest is gonna be a must. I would check with Richie 1st and get some prices on a seat kit. I paid $467.00 with shipping for mine. Also put an old pillow against the wall in front of the cart. As you probably noticed my cart has marred the wall. Offer them about 30% less than they're asking and let them work you to 25% off. They got room trust me on a used one.

I had already figured out that a folding foot rest was a must.  Their cart had a huge, custom one - but it was obvious there wasn't enough for any foot rest that didn't fold.

We were there close to closing time, so didn't really have time to dicker any - but the saleman admitted they could come off the "sticker" price.  We told them we were going to look on the internet for the lowest price around, and he said they 'probably' could match it.  So far, we found one 18% lower than their price - and that has to have some wiggle room too  :argh:

If we can get it for that 18% range AFTER tax, tag, etc, we will be very happy campers - in our 'new' Outback!  :popo:

Divide the list price by1.35, that will be a ballpark cost of the unit.  DON'T multiply by .65 it is not the same.  Remember it's close but not perfect, MH's have a different divisor.  GOOD LUCK!

There price/1.35 + tax, tag, etc puts the end result pretty close to the 18% off their sale price.  The divide by 1.35 ends up real close to the sale price I'm shooting for, in other words.  :rofl2:

$%^&* Cheap ass bastards!  They would hardly budge on the price.  They wanted $21,900 out the door - which puts the bottom line around 20K.  We found the same for less than 19K.  They wouldn't match - or come close.  The difference is enough to be a deal breaker  :rofl2:

:argh: I guess we'll just keep looking ...

If I found a customer who could bring the money down I'd damn sure sell it. They have so much room it's not funny because I guarantee they screwed the bastard who traded it in. If I was you I'd forget it and rent from make camping you know who lol. I'm going to miss you guys. I am excited for you though.

We asked why it was traded it, because it really is in great shape.  The people bought it - and traded up to larger because they wanted to haul two Harley's (his & hers).  You know they were screwed when they bought it and again when they traded up, so I agree they could have made a deal with us.  That just means we won't even use them for all the extras we would pick up over time ...

We found the 'perfect fit' and the deal fell through because of a jackwagon manager at the RV place.  Now we are really depressed, and not even in the 'actively looking' market.  IF we happen to come across the right one at the right price  :rofl2: - otherwise  :D

Now we are back to looking at hybrids.  I was against them because of all the heating/cooling and leak issues I've head about.  As long as we do our preventative maintenance, I do see those being a deal breaker ...

Don't get discouraged! I looked at Hybrids for about a year, researching, budgeting......etc. Finally I found one I liked that was slightly used and in my price range. So hubby went to dealer in town where his father had worked for years and asked the owner his opinion on this model (palomino) He said "NO!! Ask your Dad, they are cheaply made and we have done a lot of work, repairs and recalls on this rv! BUT.... we have just taken in a used (8 months) Roo 23B, that hasn't even been cleaned and put out on the lot yet."

Hubby brought this info home to me about the Palomino and I was bummed :( He told me about the other one, but I had done enough research on to know it was out of my price range! He gave hubby a quote and I decided at least we could look at it.

Went up, walked through it, LOVED IT!! I asked about the price and he quoted ME about $800.00 less!  :rofl2: And left EVERYTHING in it, all hitches, sway bars, hoses, dishes....all ready to go! I couldn't pass it up and we couldn't have been happier. (still happy after 3 1/2 years)

We added an extra seal (from a convertible top specialist) around the bunk doors as added protection for leaks (not a drop since) cost about $120.00 total. We have no heating issues, as when it's cold we just run the heat around 65 and use the heated mattresses while sleeping. In the dead of summer it's harder to keep cool, but if you close the bunkend curtains during the day it helps tremendously!

Just some food for thought for you! We love our Roo and are so glad that we didn't settle for something or take a deal that we didn't think was a good one. Sit tight, sometimes the best deals just turn up! Happy shopping! :(

We've mainly looked at the Roo and Jayco hybrids.  Now we just need to find one with the right features and the right price.  If (when) it happens - fine.  Otherwise, we're not really in the market - at least for a while.

A few years back (probably 10) we were 5th wheel shopping. We new we wanted a BH but didn't have anything special in mind. As we were talking to the salesman he mentioned that they had a 27ft Wildwood BH TT in the back that had some hail damage. Brand new and with a TT we wouldn't need to buy a different tow vehicle.

The damage was hardly visible unless you knew exactly where it was. and they knocked $5,000 off the price. I loved that TT but it didn't have any slides. So when nest nest emptied we moved up to the MH.

Just keep looking Ed you never know what you will stumble across.
