  1. Playing devils advocate....  has anyone complained to the front desk that they are having issues with the cable TV?

I know to a lot of people TV isn't that big a deal while they are at the Fort, and the ones that really want TV probably have a dish.

When I used to work for the cable company, we didn't know if someone or an area was having problems unless customers called us.

I wouldn't be surprised if there is some sort of remote monitoring on CATV now, like the power companies do, but we are talking the Fort here.

Depending on the quality, age and type of coax cable could be the problem as well.  There are many types of Coax out there, some with only 1 shield or as high as 4 shields.  It also depends if it's rated to be underground as well.  Let's hope they used at least a good quality RG6U which has 4 shields (Foil/Braid/Foil/Braid).  I think average lifespan is around 20 years.

  2. I still haven't called them, but I rescan ed tonite and got about half the channels

Are you using a splitter??  If so, bypass the the short RG6 Coax cable and splitter and hook up a known working length of RG6 cable and try that.

If not, inspect your cable ends for any damage as well as the ports on the pedestal and Camper/TV and/or the RG6 cable itself.  If all that looks good, take some moonshine over to a neighbors and ask them if you can briefly hook your tv directly up to their pedestal????

  3. Prior to Sushi and Rolo, this little one found our way to us from a co-worker from the bank my wife and I work at. They had 4 large 100lb dogs and this dog only weighed about 4.5 lbs and tried to hang with them. They only had her for a week before they knew she needed another home and couldn't keep her. She had a very bad life with the previous @hole that owned her. It was the July 4th weekend of 2011. It was in the upper 90s that time and her owner put her in a box with no holes in it and left her outside. A neighbor saw him put this box outside and didn't think anything of it until the box started moving. She goes over to investigate and he comes out and accosts her verbally. When she opens the box and sees a dog she immediately removed her and he started flipping out on her again and said go ahead and keep her, all she does is pee. Since the woman couldn't keep animals as she rented, she took her to a local pet store where our co-worker's wife worked and told her the story. They had a vet check her out and was discovered that at some point her ribs and tail were broken and never healed properly. She also has a "lazy eye" and no one is sure if it came from abuse or if she was just born that way. She is about 5 or 6 now and has easily doubled her weight. Anyone guess what mix she is?

  4. Aw - sweet pups, and very lucky to have found you!

Yeah, in our hybrid Bz figured out how to hit the latch on the screen door so that it popped open.  Smart little stinker.  B)

Rolo can't reach the latch.  Just backed up and rammed the frame with her head.  Popped it open.  She is strong for her size.  Right before Christmas time she came running down the hallway at full speed for reasons unknown.  I couldn't get out of the way in time and she rammed by shins with her head sending me for a flip.  I am not a light person at 215lbs.

  5. Next up is another rescue who was from Georgia. Got her April/May 2013.  She was not treated well apparently but is more then happy now.   Here is Rolo.a60baea248455af6b8d0f41c5d8045bd.jpg

The vet thinks she may be a "dwarf" boxer. Her age ranges is about 3-5 Years. For perspective the floor tiles are 10"x10". You can see how short her legs are. She's been camping with us many times and we found out you can't just leave only the camper screen door closed. It's not enough to hold her back and those short little legs can move that chunky body pretty quick.

  6. Chinese Crested?

    Yep.

We were told she was only a few years old and the former owner didn't have her her whole life either but upon a vet check-up, the vet feels she is about 8 years old.  Also says she has a very bad heart murmer.  Her vision is degraded badly as well. She was treated well but she didn't get along with her former owner's two other dogs and since the former owner was only allowed to have 2 animals, Sushi was "hidden" and never went outside.  So, Sushi was used to using piddle pads.  She hasn't learned the routine from the other dogs yet about signaling when she needs to go out so we've had an accident or three but she's improving each day.  Unfortunately, she had a couple of those accidents inside the camper at the Fort.  It was her first time staying in the camper for any duration of time.  With her vision, she also kept on walking into the camper steps.

  7. We take what I refer to as a traveling petting zoo. Here is our latest addition. She is a rescue who we were initially just fostering until I said we're keeping her. Here is Sushi.... 960ee62b1348548aa809baeb92a5b6eb.jpg

Anyone care to guess what breed?

  8. Hot skin can be one of the symptoms of a miswired outlet post but could also be caused by a miswired trailer or chord. Mike Sokol has a website that talks about it.

http://www.noshockzone.org/rv-electrical-safety-part-iv-%E2%80%93-hot-skin/ . I had the opportunity to talk and email back and forth with Mike a couple of years ago. It was for dealing with mainline power and equipment power supplies. It was related to professional sound reinforcement but as most conversations go we got off on a tangent about RV's. As a electrical engineer by training I will say the guy knows his stuff and I have a lot of respect for him. I would recommend reading his RV articles on the website. Overall I think he does a good job explaining things for the non-technical person and most folks should be able to do the basic tests on their own after reading his articles.

As far as using the multimeter. I not only check for miswired sockets but also to be sure the voltage is correct along having good grounds. I haven't had it happen but know someone who plugged into a supposed 30A, 120V plug and it turned out to be 220V. While my surge protector is supposed to handle that situation I figure it is easier to check with my meter first and not take the risk.

    Thank you!

Torque wrench with appropriate sized socket for the lug nuts. I always check the lug nuts at every stop. It was overkill with my last TT but its a necessity with this 5th wheel. There are always 3-4 that back themselves off. One other reason i hate this thing. Sent from my iPhone

Any idea if all torque wrenches are created equal?  I ask as we need to get one... came across a recommendation that we check the torque every 50 miles for the first 200 miles we use our new TT.  Lucky for us, our first few trips are close so... we can check them each time we set up camp for the first 4 trips :)   Since we have to buy a wrench, I'll make sure to add checking the lug nuts to do my list for things that I do before we leave home and before we leave the campsite.... I also check our tire pressure (try to check that with each gas fill-up as well).

This is my trusty 20 year old craftsman wench. Been used on 4 engine builds, some suspension work and other car related jobs. I prefer this style where you adjust settings in the handle over the other style that has the weird little bar over it

  9. So is it the particular loops themselves that people like (layout of sites, space, etc?) or does the location of the loops come into play with your favorites?  Do people care if they're close to the Settlement/Marina, or is it more your immediate surroundings that make a loop your "favorite"?

It was a mixture of both for the 400.  Although I was very envious of the spot Grumpy was in.

  10. Hey bhall, the York show is this weekend, just a fyi

I know. Not sure if I will get as good as a deal that jeff couch rv nation is offering on the price of a 337bar. With that being said i am $18k upside down on this 2011 Springdale. The wife wanted it so bad so I really never paid attention to the price nor shopped for others. While we were at camping world she kept on saying "happy wife, happy life". Whoever made that phrase up i hope died a gruesome death.

  11. What you have (i.e. Class A, TT, 5th wheel):

Keystone Springdale 253 FWRL 29' 5th wheel (It sucks)

If you're towing (so TT or 5th wheel) how heavy is it:

Last trip (to the Fort) was 7,950lbs

If you tow, what is your tow vehicle:

    2015 Chevy Silverado 2500 Crew Cab 4x4, 6.0L Gasser w/4.10 Rear End

    Gas mileage:

While towing, typically 9-10mpg going 60-63 mph.  11-13 in Town and 17-18 on the highway

Do you like it, love it or hate it (this applies to both the tow vehicle and what you're towing (or driving if Class A or C):

Hate the camper, wife loved it when we first saw it (why we bought it even though I didn't like it) but she doesn't like it anymore.  I can't stand up in the bedroom and I'm only 5' 9".  She can at 5' 3" and the bathroom is very small.  We thought we would like it over the split bathroom design in our old TT but nope.  I swear the trunk in my 84 Monte Carlo has more room then the bathroom.  The only good thing about this camper and this is why she wanted it was the opposing slides in the living room and U-shaped Dinette.  The thing opens up to about 14 feet wide.  I like my truck and don't wish it was a diesel at all.

If you'd like to make a change, change to what and why:

I wish my truck was a 3500.  If I had waited 2 weeks, I could  have got a 3500 dually gasser on sale for the same price as what I paid for mine.  Bad timing as usual.  I will probably upgrade to a 3500 so I can have more payload.  2,831lbs in payload isn't too shabby for a 2500 but we've been looking at some larger 5th wheels.

As for the camper, I would love to see it burn.  Hot and fast....  But anyway, I would like to have a bedroom I could stand up in and a larger bathroom.  My wife doesn't even use the shower in ours now because it's so small and the water pressure sucked.  I fixed that with an oxygenics shower head but she still won't use it.  We've been looking at either a Wildcat 317RL or a Salem Hemisphere 337BAR.  Either way, I would like to put LT tires on the camper and chuck the china bomb ST tires.  It would be nice to be able to travel with the flow of traffic and now worry about a blowout.

Ideally we would like a Front Living 5th wheel but I'll need a bigger truck for that.
