  1. Wow! That's a huge increase. Same coverage and deductible on both trucks?

    Yes sir.

Was with Allstate for 18 years.  No speeding tickets but 1 accident 8 years prior (Brake pedal went to the floor and I used a brand new F-250 as a brake pedal).  I went shopping with every company and settled on Erie.  Moved Both vehicles/drivers, Fifth Wheel and Renters Insurance to them and paying $1500/yr.  The Erie agent felt the increase came about because when they do quotes, they do by address.  With that being said, my parents "own" our house, but we are paying the mortgage as they have an insanely cheap interest rate on it.   They were using the house address as theirs while they were Full-Timing.  They were at a KOA when a micro-burst occurred.  A tree fell down on their Class C and on my dad's 5 day old leased Nissan Altima.  According to the agent, he saw those 2 large claims there and suggested Allstate took advantage of that.  He also knew my parents and knew the address situation so he was able to not include their mess in with our quote.  That wasn't easy as my dad and I have the same name as well.   I'm also paying J.C. Taylor $180/year for agreed value coverage on another vehicle.

  2. Nearly every thread about campers somehow makes it back around to tires

No wonder. I live near the Bristol Motor Speedway and this week we are inundated with campers from all over. In my daily travels over the last two days alone, I have passed 9 campers with blowouts on the side of the road. Everything from Motorhome, to 5'ers, and TT.  Makes me think I should change my tires out annually.....

    Sorry.

Same thing is happening around here to with Tourist/Camping season kicking in.  I saw one today on U.S. 15 with a blowout that caused a lot of damage to the trailer.

  3. Ray,

Your idea sounds interesting and cost saving. Going to each country and buying 1 beer and getting an extra cup and splitting it with someone. May work well. I was thinking of betting the BIL a beer from Germany that he couldn't make it all the way around. Knowing him, he would do it, get rushed to the emergency room, and return back to Epcot for that free beer on my from Germany.

I am not a big drinker anymore but the wife still enjoys a drink or two. She said if the BIL does the tour, she is in.

That would be the only way I could do it.  Despite the outward appearance of my stomach, I simply cannot pour that much liquid into it.

  4. Have you taken your trailer to the scales to verify that you are not over the load rating of the tires?

Also, take a 8ft level to the side of the tires and verify that your axles are in alignment. Constant scrubbing raises the temp and can cause delamination of the tread.

You also may want to check the rating of the tire, If it is a C rating and max pressure is 50#, that may be part of the problem. Both my pop up and hybrid have D rated tires and a 65 max pressure that I run at and haven't had a problem. The only time I had tires fail was my fault because of low tire pressure and that was on my open trailer.

    Best Regards,

    Norm

I haven't taken any of the work trailers to the scales but 3 of my blowouts were while empty.  All of the trailers are running 205/75/15ST LRC @ 50 psi Cold.  I always put to Max cold pressure before going.  It makes no sense to upgrade the tire to LRD though because D tires call for 65 psi Cold and all of the wheels are rated for 55 psi Cold.  Wouldn't be able to run max cold psi for the tires.  I now drive under 65 with the work trailers and listen to everyone complain but we haven't had a blowout since.  Today, someone else was driving to a site empty and blew a tire out.  He was going 70 with Maxxis and I checked the tire pressure before he left and put it to 50 psi Cold as the tire calls for.

As for my campers, I don't recall what the axle ratings were on my old TT and what the exact size tires were but it was a Dutchmen 30L DSL w/16" LRD tires.  After blowouts at 70 with the proper Cold PSI I upgraded to Hercules LRE tires and kept it at 65mph.  Only kept that camper a  year afterwards but no problem.  Bought a 2011 Springdale 253 FWRLLS in July and that had a set of early 2009 dated tires on it.  Size is 205/75/15ST LRC.  The wheels also have 55 Max PSI Cold stamped on the inside.  Didn't have a blowout with it but kept speeds under 65mph.  Camping World hid the sidewall cracks by applying many coats of a tire glaze on them and I noticed the cracks back in October on our last camping trip as I was cleaning animal pee off of it.   I finally purchased 6 new tires and an extra wheel (also has 55 Mas PSI stamped inside of it) in February for the trip to the Fort in March.  I wanted 2 spare tires.  I can't go up to the next load range 15" tire due to the wheel PSI limit not being high enough for the LRD tires.  I've also looked for 15" wheels that could accommodate the LRD tires but we plan on a Camper upgrade soon.  It was also almost impossible to find 16" wheels that were 5 lug.  The GVW of the Springdale is 8215lbs.  The axles are rated at 3500lbs each and the wheels and tires are rated at 1820lbs each.

I will make sure I don't have this issue with the next camper we get (not purchased from Camping World either).

  5. Glad you liked it.......any local insight to offer?

Well, I can't honestly opine on the new VC as I haven't stepped foot in there since it was built.  That has to do with a personal protest as to how it came about and other aspects from the old museum to this new one.  Local politics if you will.  I may have to soften my stance up though.  My Dad is now working there and has said he wants to show me stuff in there.  The new visitors center is about 2-3 miles from me as the crow flies.

My step-mom is high up at the ski-resort pictured.  That is definitely Raven Rock near it.  Black helicopters were a consistent sight over the area in the last quarter of 2001.

I'm by no means an expert on the battle but am a student of it.  Have walked over lots of ground.  Once upon a time I even found fossils embossed into stone on a bridge in the perk near Big Round Top.  I need to rediscover that again.  Was even a re-enactor long time ago.  If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask?

  6. But, that doesn't stop people who just ordered from standing in front of the pick up counter blocking anyone else, particularly those who ordered before them and whose drinks will be ready before theirs, from getting to the counter.  Like these nimrods:

Seriously, how can people be that dumb?

Try not to be too harsh.  You can clearly see the incision scar at the access point where the aliens extracted his brain from.

  7. We come down from Pittsburgh that way and run 79 to 77 and 26 to 95. Real easy drive AFTER you get down the fancy gap mountain in the bottom of VA. It is a 7 mile grade that one you hit the bottom, is a flat 70 mph 10 hour roll to the fort. It would save you from the busiest part of 95 nut might be a bit hilly until you get to the bottom of said hill.

Must be nice to be able to do 70.  Every trailer I have towed and has had ST tires and I attempt to even go over 65 has had a tire blow out.  Yes, even the beloved Maxxis tires on the one trailer at work went kaboom at 70...Thankfully I wasn't driving.  Hopefully my next trip down to the Fort will be in a new 5er that can accommodate larger LT tires.

  8. When was that?

They must have had the interactive stuff shut down for some reason, as you should have seen it all if your were in there for 35 minutes.  The effects change, and could be missed if the line is moving quickly.

I think they did a pretty good job with this queue.

    TCD

It was Saturday, March 7th at 9 PM or a little after (I think).  The fireworks were going off while in line.  The line wasn't moving that fast at all.  My wife was surprised I wanted to go into this ride at all and I said there's some neat stuff to see in the line.  We saw nothing....

  9. Okay... this has to be an April Fool's joke.  Keep in mind that we signed the Purchase Agreement and submitted a $2500 deposit check (which CW cashed) back on February 28th.  I received this email, today:

    Mrs. Siver,

I just received an update on your ordered Jayco White hawk. When we placed your order they were in the process of switching to 2016 models and they weren’t able to get your 2015 scheduled before the cut off. They are now starting the production of the 2016 models this week but they have completely changed the product and increased the price. I’m still waiting to get the pricing from the Jayco on the 2016 models. I’m truly sorry for the delay and the confusion. I do have a 2015 model available that just came offline and is at one of my locations that has all the options plus an electric tongue jack and electric stabilizing jacks that you ordered with your unit with the exception of the sky light in the kitchen. I will would be able to include these new features that are on this unit at no cost to you if this is something you would consider. If not I have attached the new look and features of the 2016 models and I would be more than happy to work you out an amazing deal on one them. Please review and let me know what you decide. Again I apologize for the inconvenience.

You've got to be kidding me!  I knew not to trust CW....

Sorry this is happening to you. I got burned by them twice. Ask for your deposit back since you can't get the product you ordered and run swiftly to another dealer. Sadly CW owns all the dealers in a 60mi radius of me with the exception of one down in MD which is just barely a notch above CW in games they play. Warranty work on my next unit will be anything but convenient because of this.

Good luck with all if this

  10. Netgear sells a device (n300) that converts wifi to cat5. Might be worth $45 to have a fall-back plan. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

I have one of those set up at my day job and well, it annoys the you know what out of me.  It always needs rebooted.  I also own one that I've used before at other campgrounds.  I've had a 50% success rate with it regarding whether or not it can stay connected.
