  1. Our MH's snow allergy is MUCH better since we both retired as of 6/1, and its spending Winter 20 minutes from the Fort instead of buried under snow in Wisconsin for 6 months. (DH's snow allergy is much better also - he had elevated despising Winter to an art form...)
  2. We're at the Fort now, and DH just saw a squirrel jump down from under a truck on the site across from us. Told the guy he might want to check to make sure they weren't chewing on something. If they're doing this kind of damage, I'm glad they're trying to control the population.
  3. DH liked Deer Creek well enough when he stayed there last year. The place in Brooksville (Belle Parc) where we were originally going to stay has a much more "natural" setting than Deer Creek, but we really got ourselves excited about the idea of being 20 minutes from WDW. We're going to be in the Motor Home only section, by the golf course. As for establishing Florida residency, after seeing what you can get the Florida Resident Annual Pass for, its a pretty compelling argument for it! We'll probably spend every Winter in Florida, and I still have a fantasy of eventually being a seasonal C
  4. We're staying at Deer Creek, in Davenport. DH stayed there for a month last December - our house sold faster than expected and I wasn't retiring till 6/1, so he had to head South for the Winter when all the campgrounds in Wisconsin closed for the season.
  5. W'd be happy to send our 2 Terriers over - although their "specialty" is bunnies.....
  6. Full-timers as of June 1st, and are spending our first full Winter in Florida. We had a week at the Fort already planned (arriving Sunday!), and had planned to stay in Brooksville the other 3 months. Turns out we found a spot just 20 minutes from WDW, so we decided to use my retirement gifts to upgrade to an AP! Even though a lot of what doesn't open till 12/6 will probably be in previews next week, now we won't have to agonize over what we can and can't do next week. Sometime during the next 3 months we should be able to hit everything new. (Well, maybe not dinner at Be Our Guest without a
  7. We just decided to upgrade to an AP for our reservation starting the 25th, and what was available on our Premium site is a 5% discount. Be just about enough to cover the pet fee!
  8. Safe travels - we leave next Sunday and can't wait!!!
  9. Having some computer issues, but if tbhis works its probably my favorite of any pic ever taken of me at WDW in 30+ trips. I miss Figment and Dreamfinder.....
  10. When I make my reservations I've put loop requests in the past, but this time I thought about including a few site numbers also. Does faxing a request really improve the chances of getting a requested site? Or is putting it on the ressie enough? (I thought about listing a top 3). We had a horrendous experience a number of years ago when we had a 38 ft 5th wheel where I clearly noted on the ressie our length, slideouts, awnings etc. and we ended up on a site that we were later told was described as "difficult back-in, no slideouts". We managed to get it in, but it was pretty frustrating. (
  11. I think the app is fantastic! Used it in conjunction with the loop videos. We'll be at the Fort in 3 weeks, and have already made a list of the sites in 600 that look like the best match. (Of course we're still having a debate over whether or not thats the loop we want to be on.....), but that's a separate subject... Thanks to the Fiends for taking the time to develop this!!!
  12. Jeep Wrangler - ours was totaled a week before we were supposed to begin our new life as full-time RV-ers, and DH immediately replaced it with another one.
  13. I remember one rainy day in the Magic Kingdom there were so many people in white ponchos DH commented that it looked like the 999 ghosts had escaped from the Haunted Mansion...
  14. These are actually postcards of River Country, but they are from our 1st WDW - and Fort trip December of 1980. Pretty tame (or some might say lame?) by today's water park standards, but in 1980 it was pretty impressive. The slides, etc also emptied into the lake - not a heated swimming pool. The water was PAINFULLY cold (even to someone from Milwaukee who grew up swimming in Lake Michigan), but we wanted to get the most out of the trip. It was a blast!!!
  15. December, 1980: our first trip from Wisconsin to Florida. Pitched a tent in the Fort and were hooked. They still had the trams, which we liked MUCH better than the buses. We went to River Country, which was not heated. Even through I grew up in Wisconsin swimming in always-cold Lake Michigan, the water was painfully cold - but we were determined to get the most of our 1st WDW experience. Loved every minute of it, and have been back almost every year since. Wish they would re-open River Country and just make it part of the Fort!
  16. Now that we are full-time RV-ers, in addition to both of our Cell numbers their engraved tags also describe our motor home.....
  17. Thanks - this is exactly what I needed! First time we'll be driving to the Fort from South Carolina where we'll be coming in on 95 instead of from Wisconsin where we always came in on 75. Leaves a nice easy drive for arrival day. (And plenty of time before our O'hana's reservation).
  18. I wondered if yours might be a Silky - very cute!!!!! We'll be there for 7 nights. Maybe the furbabies could get togther in the dog park for a play date.
  19. We stayed for 2 weeks in 800 right after Thanksgiving last year and didn't have a problem with our Australian Terriers. They don't have much ground clearance and have low hanging fur, so we definitely would have remembered if this was a problem!
  20. Just wanted to post an update about the suggestions for Koda. I'm happy to report that he is doing MUCH better. The vet perscribed drugs - and a pheromone spray - and they seemed to help a little, but the big diffence is the sister we adopted for him 3 weeks ago. "Dolly" is a 2 year old female (Koda is 6) - also an Australian Terrier from the same breeder. The 2 became buddies very quickly - at least once a day they are curled up together. They can be left in their crate together, and both are enjoying joining us in the Jeep. We have put in a screen divider so they can't get into the fro
  21. We were on the 800 loop for the 2 weeks after Thanksgiving last year and enjoyed the pet walk with our 2 terriers every morning while DH slept in. (also had a LOT of sites decroated for the holidays.) Its not as close to the dog park as we'd like so we're going to try a different loop this year, but since you specifically mentioned you don't want the off-leash 800 should be great for you!
  22. I guess she doesn't annoy me as much as the old Mr Whipple "don't squeeze the Charmin" or the Wisk "ring around the collar ads". Sorry - didn't mean to drag this off topic... {:--)
  23. We just went full-time June 1st and won't be in any one place for mkore than a few months at a time. DH found Progressive had the coverage we needed, and had the best rate. We've established South Dakota as our legal residency, so that's where our rates are based on. Have to say changing to Progressive made me cringe - we both retired after 30+ years at rival insurance cpmpanies, neither of which had the right coverage for full-timers, so I knew we had to switch, but those "FLO" adds make me cringe.
