  1. Is it possilbe that New years is already booked for next year already?  I just put in the dates and only tent sites came up, I used the 26th of December to the 3rd of Jan..

well that's a bummer, how am I suppose to plan trips I'm surely not going to keep??

  2. As most of you know the annual pilgramige of Wild Women will begin on Jan 17th (give or take a few days)  When you feel the earth rumble a bit unexpectedly, know they are all there and the shenanigans have begun!  I sadly do not get to partake this year :( The kids really do cramp my style at times :)

In speaking with a few other ladies, it was suggested that maybe another gathering this year would be appropriate.  Waiting a WHOLE YEAR to get back together is WAY to much to ask of any purple blooded wild women :)

So I have been thinking maybe the end of June a gathering in Gatlinburg?  A cabin?  Depending on the number of participants will depend on the size of cabin and such.  Just to give you an idea of the expense.  A cabin that sleeps 20 for 3 days (FRI,SAT, SUN) ran apx $1200 dollars. That's the big guy cabins.  There is every imaginable combination in between.  So my question is, how many folks would be down for something at the end of June, the 20, 21st and 22nd perhaps?

If you havent had to oppourtunity to attend one of these, I assure you, it's the absolute best time and the friendships you build are so much more than you could have imagined.  Alot of these women I see once a year but consider them some of my dearest friends.  I  me some Wild Women and simply can't wait a WHOLE YEAR to see ya'll again :)

    Takers?

and yes Marty, I'm desperate enough to volunteer to plan this, I just make no promises that it will go smoothly and that I wont be messing things up ALOT.. :clint:

oh yea and I hereby volunteer Yvonne to help me plan since she is close enough to come kick me in the arse when I do screw up, congratuation Yvonne!  :heartsmiley:

  3. I can't see the darn pic's for some reason from my work computer, DAMN the man..

I missed you by a day, the little ones and I invaded Pigeon Forge the day after you left, we had a wonderful time to, Dollywood was not a bit crowded and I was happy to find out they keep alot of those propane heaters throughout the park, so even though it was 30 degrees, we really didnt get that cold!  I love that area, looking forward to going back at Memorial Day and this year we are doing the 4th there as well.

I'll check this out again when I get home :)

  4. Hey guys - Yvonne sweetly told me about this thread.  I'm new to GG's and haven't even been able to be on FF in a long time, but I'm hoping it will be okay if we join y'all!  We've only really camped one time in our lives for one night at Oak Mountain.  We don't have anything other than a tent, but we have teenagers who love to live outside and think that even using tents is cheating.

So, I've tentatively made a reservation for the primitive campsite for that weekend - March 14-16.  We wouldn't be able to stay as long as most of y'all and will be in the primitive part, but not the backcountry part, so I'm thinking it would be an easy walk or quick drive from where we are to where the rest of the gang is.

Hope that's okay!  I'd really love to join y'all for this!

    Leslie

Aboslutely!   I have teenagers as well so the more the merrier ( and that really means the less they will bother me the better :) )

  5. We actually didn't get our camper until we were empty nesters. I did a lot of Scout camping with the boys. Rick is not much of a camper at all. Actually most of my trips are solo (except Disney). So, don't despair, there is a camping life after the kids are gone.

That's good to know, I'm prepping my children now to be productive members of society, I plan to sell everything after the last one is gone and hit the road for good.  Some people will not agree with my plan but that is ok.  The best thing my parents taught me was to stand on my own two feet.. if they hadn't I'm not sure where me or my children would be today.  I had a lengthy arguement about this particular subject with my sister last night so I'm still a little raw from it I guess.. To many people are raising cream puff's instead of functional adults.. :soapbox:

Ok I'm sorry, back to the regular scheduled program :)

  6. You know, what Scot (Live4FW) said really hit home for me, my kids are 6 and 2 and we go camping as much as we can even with the cost, because we know the inevitable is coming and the kids will no longer be as excited or even able to go camping with us, I figure we have a good 8-9 years before it happens, but, we saw it with our cousins and nephews who no longer come down with their folks to visit Florida. I wanted to print out what Scot said and show it to some of our family that do not understand why we go camping as much as we do, especially so close to home instead of saving up for a BIG trip to the Grand Canyon or something, though I would love to visit the Grand Canyon in our camper, the time we waste saving for that trip could be spent in our camper spending time with each other and making those memories, when we are at the campground we don't feel like we are close to home, it feels like you are days away! At least that's my take on it anyway... Brian

AMEN!  I don't get to go very far very often but when we are camping, we are "away" and sometimes that is all you need.. my older ones are 15, 13, 12.. border line.. my little ones however (5,3) still LOVE it and ask to go every day which makes my heart warm   I wish I had done this with my older ones ALOT sooner..

  7. Since buying my trailer in May we have been about 6 small weekend trips.. but I'm still very much unfullfilled and the thought of winterizing and putting her away brings tears to my eyes..

yes I'm a emotional mess.. it's part of my charm really :)

I'm wondering how the kids will fair in cold weather camping.. usually my beverages keep me warm :rofl2:

  8. Well Drew's high school football career came to and end on November 1st.  They won their last game.   :jumpforjoy

They may not have had the best season (3 wins), but they did get more wins than they did last year (just 1 one win then).

No rest for us or Drew though.  Basketball season is now underway.  The first game of the season was on November 8th. The JPII Varsity Boys team defeated the Randolph Raiders 56-21.  Drew scored 7 points.  (3-2-2) and had 6 steals.  The whole team did great.  We got to see some games this summer with the team and if they keep playing the way they did then and this last week then they are going to have a great season.  The boys seem to really be playing as a team and also seem to be enjoying every moment on the court.

Yea Drew!  We are done to, not the best year but my freshman did get moved up to Varsity  so I'm a pretty damn proud mama, they are working with him on receiving as he has been on the line up until now and he's a big boy but not THAT big..lol  I think they keep hoping the Samoan kicks in and he has a growth spurt..  regardless, my baby was 1 of 5 that will skip JV and go straight to Varsity.. WHOOHOOO!
