finding this site has made me want to go to my mums and dig out all our old wdw vacation photos as well... i know we have tons from the fort from the late 80s to the early to mid nineties including a treasure map my step dad had made when his kids were little before he and my mom got together some where on fort wilderness is a tin lunch box filled with tons of stuff i think including money and he buried it some where on the fort and created a treasure map for his kids to find but they never did... im sure its long gone by now but its cool to think about specially since he passed away 4 years ago and he was one that i always could connect with about wdw
thanks for posting these!
Jill
Oh my gosh, that lunch box must be found! It sounds like a job for TCD!!
Seriously, I would love to see those pictures. I found this site recently also and it made me go dig out my pictures. I have a friend that used to go back in the 70's with her family and I am tempted to ask for her pictures, haha! I also have a video somewhere of our first trip. I really need to go find that.
Where on the south shore did you grow up?

I am in on this trip report! Have a fantastic trip. My niece is flying home today, said the parks were packed, but she's a novice. I'm sure you will know how to beat the crowds (relaxing at FW!).
-
Wow, I just went through your whole report and it was great! We just visited last month and yet I feel my pictures are so inadequate, haha. I want to go back and take pictures like you...of everything! Thanks for sharing your trip.
-
Great pictures. I have never been in the Norway chapel or the Moroccan museum so thanks for the pictures!
-
Great report so far! And I wholeheartedly agree with you on the nachos. In fact I have a picture of the nachos as the screen saver on my phone. Sitting by the water there with nachos and a cold Dos Equis...my happy place!

Great pictures, I love the flower and garden festival but haven't been in a few years. Like the 'stache too, but would like to see it in a real picture, not just the tombstone copy.
Had to show my dd's the picture of Marie. My middle dd in particular has always loved Marie so we got her a stuffed Marie one trip. So she thanks you for the photo (she gasped in horror that many do not know who Marie is, but after reading about Marie's stench of cigarettes and kitty litter I may discourage the attraction).

Well done. And I think it's perfect that you left one ride undone. Every trip there is something we don't get to do and every time we tell the girls, "Just leaving it for next time."
Awesome fireworks picture by Twin #1, also!!

I've once again been lurking and enjoying your report, but I had to chime in at this comment. I'm very pro-lake view. When we stayed at BLT last spring, we had the chance for a room that would have had a partial view of the MK but I opted for a room that had a great view of the marina. I sat out there many times watching the boats come and go, and loved getting to watch the EWP from our balcony.
Great report!
We did the same thing! I loved our lake view. Coffee every morning on the balcony watching the boats come and go, glass of wine on the balcony every evening for the EWP. One of the best rooms we ever had on Disney property (even though we really didn't care for BLT itself).
Sorry for the hijack, TCD....fantastic pictures though!!

I've only read the first page so I have a lot of catching up to do, but wanted you to know you're pics are great. Can't wait to hear about the adventures!

My favorite thing about the upstairs of Columbia House is the restrooms.
If the Brady Bunch had public restrooms in their house, they would look like these.
TCD
Have you ever taken the Keys to the Kingdom tour? We went a few years ago and our guide gave us an interesting fact about the Columbia House bathrooms. She told us that Liberty Square was designed to be as authentic as possible to the time period so there are no bathrooms. She said that the bathrooms are placed where they are in the Columbia Harbor House because they are actually in Fantasyland.
Now at the time I didn't think to ask if Liberty Tree Tavern has restrooms. What do the patrons do there...suffer?
She gave no comment on the Brady Bunch decor (I wish I could remember what they look like...no pics?).

That would definitely be a job for Yuri. I have never been in the closed-off area of River Country.
TCD
I didn't think so.
-
Thanks so much for those River Country photos. Believe it or not, almost everything depicted in your photos is still there. It sure would be interesting to have some "now" photos taken from the same spots. Maybe I will need to do something about that.
TCD
That would be cool! And is that something you would do, or would it call for a visit from Yuri?

So happy to see yet another TCD trip report...I am still plugging along on the NYE one! What a great idea to ride every ride at MK, I would love to do that!!

I'm guess somewhere near where Splash and Big Thunder are now (but before those attractions were built)??
You got it! Big Thunder Mountain was there, I remember riding it. I think they were just beginning to build Splash Mountain. So this was the train station, right around where Splash Mountain stands now. I wish I had taken more pictures. You never think things are going to change, but they do.

Here's a picture taken from the old Skyway ride.
And here's one of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. It must have been taken from the Skyway as well.
Now let's see if anyone can guess where this last one was taken. When I first looked at it I really couldn't place it, but I think I have it now. Let's see how you guys do.

Okay, I think I will just finish up with what I have. These are a few pictures from the Magic Kingdom, 1988.
First off, this was our admission ticket, designed I guess for spring breakers in mind. We must have done a day at the Magic Kingdom, one day at Epcot, a day at River Country and then I think we had a day just hanging around Fort Wilderness.
Now check out the price!!!
-
I also got a picture of this rice krispie treat at Goofy's candy co. We didn't buy it, though...check out the price!!
-
I have a couple from our last trip.
The first is the chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwich at the Magic Kingdom.
Next we have the funnel cake with whipped cream and strawberries. Same spot.
-
Wow, those are great photos. She didn't miss a thing!
-
Oops, I have one more River Country one. Nice view of the Contemporary. And don't you love the avocado green umbrellas? It must have been to match the water.
Up next I have a few old Magic Kingdom photos.
-
And this one again pretty similar. I think I must have been taking them side by side, for kind of a panorama. I know this was the exit for I believe, Raft Rider Ridge.
And here we have a picture of Raft Rider Ridge in action. I know you got into your inner tube at the top, went under a FREEZING waterfall, and then you were on your way down.
-
This next one is pretty similar to the last one.

And, DVCcamper- THANK YOU so much for posting the photos. I love them.
I recognize where most of them were taken, and I already have plans to take shots of the same areas on my next visit so we can compare the changes.
TCD
Wow, I feel privileged to have TCD comment on my pictures!! I love looking at all your pictures and honestly, it was your trip reports that inspired me to go dig up these old photos. I love that you take pictures of things that most of us would just rush right by, not even really seeing what's there. I just look back on what I have and wish I had taken so many more (of course these were the days of film, one was less inclined to take so many pictures).
As for everyone else's kind words, thank you, I'm sorry I don't have the time to reply to each comment, but again thanks. My time is really limited so I'm just going to get right into some more pics.
This one is obviously at River Country. I remember it was a cool day in March, maybe we reached 70 degrees. Maybe that's why it looks pretty empty. I remember the water was cold, too.

I believe you can still rent the surrey bikes at the WL, can't you? I saw someone a year or so ago on the trail between the Fort and the Lodge riding one.
LOVE these pics dvc....please keep them coming!
I know a few years ago we rented a surrey bike at WL and did that trail between the two. It was actually a pretty nice ride, we saw a deer and an armadillo which made it worth it for the kids.
Will put up my River Country pics later today hopefully.
Old pics of the Fort, River Country, etc.

I have heard of Freetown! I went to Bridgewater State with a kid from Freetown. His name was Tim, I can't for the life of me remember his last name.
Discamper, I like your pictures. Where did you take the one of the picture of Walt Disney?
