  1. One thing about Florida heat, the sun is the main problem, if you stay in the shade and have a fan to make a breeze it is not too hot. The problem is being too active during the hat part of the day, why do you think they have siestas in Mexico. At night it usually cool off after the sun goes down and being surrounded by water there is often a breeze after dark. We haven't even turned on the ac yet this year, out of the house all day and it is cool enough at night with just a ceiling fan.

My original comment was serious.  Deer do a lot of damage here in Iowa.

Princess Bride is a MUST see!

Deer do a lot of damage in Florida too. Not only to vehicles, but they eat a lot of crops farmers are raising they even will eat an orange tree. I loose some every year and know some who have to fence off their trees to raise them. Once they get 4-5 years old the deer no longer brother them.

  3. While I hate to see them gone, I understand the problem with them at that position in Fort Wilderness. That area gets crowded at times and the people playing with them are not concerned with anyone around them and leave them on the ground making them a tripping hazard. Some like me have had a problem affecting balance an it doesn't take much to cause a real serious injury. If they are going to have them there should be a fenced area not in a major walkway for them, I have had problems getting down steps and pass there.

June and July are peak tourists time here.  Make sure you gas up before you get to Gettysburg.  We like to gouge everyone at the pumps all year long (worse in the summer).

It is peak tourist time here year around, we are use to the higher prices and did not think to even mention it. Gas went up again this week preparing for summer travelers.

Thanks everyone! We have a tent site reserved, will hopefully be on 1500.

Just us old folks so very much looking forward to passing out candy. We have lived out here in the boonies for ten years now and I miss trick or treaters. I always loved handing out candy. Even when our kids were little, DH would take them so I could stay home and pass out to all the kids. We may have company for a night or two here and there from our grown kids with grandkids, but nothing carved in stone.

It's a bit disappointing to hear that 1500 doesn't get as many, and that there will be less due to the weekday. I had planned to make an evening of it. Oh well, I will bring lots and see what happens.

I also have a tent site reserved, we might be neighbors but I want 2000 loop, it won't be as crowded with outsiders as 1500

  6. We were in 2000 last year and passed out about 5 lbs of assorted candies. Just bought the bags of assorted individual wrapped candies and enjoyed sitting in loop entrance and meeting the people. Was not a big group but had a good time. Have another reservation for this year and hope to get same site again, we were at the very first of the 2000 loop. This year should not be too crowed as Halloween is on Wednesday and not the weekend.

Surprised they did not put them in 1500

  8. Do you need one, no, but you might want it if there is too much movement in trailer. I had two 5th wheels over a lot of years and never had one, The movement never brothered any of us, but if you have a larger unit and a little movement brothers you, you might try one, I would try to borrow one to see if it helped. I always thought it was just another thing to take up space and was not really needed.

I agree with Grumpy, that is the easiest Publix to get to, less traffic.  You do need to make a U-turn at the intersection  just past the Mickey D's, which is also on the left.

    Oh yes and WELCOMe

I turn at the light before Publix, you can see the store and come in on the back side. It is also easier to leave that way too.

    Welcome!

As discussed, you'll either be in the 100, 200 or 300 loop.  All are close to the marina.  If you have pets, you'll be in the 300 loop as (technically) both 100 and 200 are non-pet loops.  The 300 loop is nice as it's in between the marina and the larger pool at The Fort.

I agree with renting a golf cart for a day, if it's in the budget, to drive around the loops.  There will be  A LOT of decorations at the sites as halloween has become a big deal at Fort Wilderness.  Bikes are another great option.  We bring ours every trip.  Trick-or-Treating can be chaotic, but it's fun.  Your kiddos will love that.  There will also be a golf cart parade.  Plan to stake out a place (bring camping chairs) about 30 minutes before the parade.  The parade route will be marked.  As for the parks, we prefer driving to them as we just find it easier.  The only exception is the Magic Kingdom; there you'll want to take the boat (from the marina at Fort Wilderness).

If you haven't eaten there already...breakfast at Trails End is a must.

Enjoy your trip!  The Fort will be full that week... including (with I'm sure) some Fiends ^_^

Will be some fiends there for sure, made my reservation last Halloween.

  11. e Something else to think about, I was there when they had a fire call, some fool had dumped their burning charcoal in one of the trash drums and started a fire, the new trash cans shut and will smother out a fire. He claimed this was a common ocurance and maybe this is another safety measure. They had the loop closed and several  fire trucks were there.
