  1. I think our best trips were when the kids were teenagers.  We could be together when we wanted to and also do thinks on our own.  It made the trips very enjoyable.  I'm pretty sure that most families get tired of the forced every waking moment togetherness.  Glad things turned around and you are having a great time.  We are also from Maryland.

  2. Our dogs like the Disney cartoons as well.  We usually stay at the motorhome during the day and hit the parks about 3 to 4 in the afternoon and stay until closing.  They have always done well.  Ours dogs never see anyone other than us because we live in the country, so Disney is a rude awakening for them.  They love Disney!!

  3. We have reservations.  Check in Oct 21 and check out Nov 3.  We will have our daughter, maybe son in law, and 4 grandkids.  Our grandson will turn 6 on Halloween, so he is really excited about trick or treating at The Fort.

  4. You will still have a great time in Disney in August.  For many years that was the only time we were able to go.  Our youngest was a year round swimmer and only had one week off a year and that was in August.  So, that is when we went.  Now we have grandchildren and go in August because of school schedules.  You do what you do for your kids and grandkids.  Have fun!!!

  5. We are in Maryland and I don't think Florida is any worse than Maryland.  We have been to The Fort many, many times in August.  In fact we were there last year with our 3 grandkids, the oldest is 6 and the youngest is 3.  Here's my tip, enjoy The Fort during the day, swim, etc.  We usually hit the parks about 4 and close them down.  That has always worked for us.  Just relax and enjoy yourselfs.

  6. We were considering Dollywood this summer, but didn't know if it was very kid friendly.  I looked at the height requirements and it doesn't look like there are alot of rides for kids.  Also, our grandson doesn't like thrill rides of any kind.  He is definitely tall enough, but getting him on Goofy roller coaster is a stretch.  The youngest granddaughter is just 40 inches.

To top it off, I asked them where they wanted to go on vacation and their response was Disney.  I asked them what their 2nd choice was if we can't go to Disney and they said a Disney cruise.  I guess they are being raised right!!!!!!!

I joined a few FB sites about various  Disney subjects this past year, camping, WDW, Port Orleans

I'm about ready to unfollow the majority of them.

Heaven forbid if you have a negative comment about anything Disney on these sites. Everything is all Pixie Dust 24 hours a day.

The Fort camping site was abuzz about thefts a few weeks ago.  A lot of people posted about thefts but about twice as many said nothing bad has ever happened to them at the fort and that the people that had items stolen were exaggerating the severity.

Other sites, people just whine, oh I can't get the FP i wanted or I only got 10 of the 11 character dinners I wanted so my vacation is ruined!

And they ask the most off the wall questions like will my child like XXX without giving any particulars.

About 99% of them never try to use Google and figure out anything for themselves.

A lot just post on them for drama purposes only it seems.

This site is definitely still the go to site for anything Fort related and just about everything else WDW related.

And yes real life gets in the way of posting and trip reports.

I was going to post pictures of our WDW visit on Thanksgiving weekend but just haven't had the time or energy.

I agree with you on most of the facebook sites.  They either want happily ever after or lots of drama and negativity.  Here you get lots of information with a mix of humor.

    Hello everyone!

I haven't posted in a very long time due to the fact we have been traveling the USA and don't have a lot of phone Data. We were evacuated from the Fort last Thursday to the Art of Animation. We are waiting to return. We noticed that disney had the wrong phone number on our paperwork  so after many trips to the front desk here at the AOA and some very long phone waits we decided yesterday to unhook the fifth wheel and go over to the Fort, glad we did because they indeed were trying to contact us to tell us the Fort was still closed. All of our stuff is now updated and corrected.  We were able to get to the guard shack, there was a front desk cast member in the guard shack taking care of the folks that just showed up. The two campers in line in front of us were sent to the Pop. We could see just what you can see from the shack, lots of trees down, front desk looked OK and the Outpost and barn looked fine. All those campers and trailers that I have no clue why they are always there looked fine too. We asked about the damage but nobody was talking

We decided to stay because we were afraid to be on the road with the camper, we just made the decision that our life was more important  than the trailer. Ours and 25 other campers faired fine here in what I'm calling Disney's AOA resort and campground we are in loop Cars 1.

We have a suite so we were able to save all our food except the ice cream and that's what we had for dinner the first night. AOA has been great. So that's our story, just waiting to hear when we can return.

Glad to see that Disney took care of you guys by setting you up in a suite.  We were wondering how they were going to handle things.  When we were there we had a party of 6 and that definitely won't fit in a standard room.
